My grandfathers name was Merle. He had 2 sons that I know of John D. And Rick and daughters Jeannie and marge. Don't know anything about my dads side of the family other than most of the children live in independence, MO.

Ms. Stephens is living in a retirement facility. Her daughter still has a large supply of the Amos family books. My wife's maiden name was Amos, so I met Ms. Stephens years ago when I purchased a copy of the book from her. We have kept up through the years.

Hi, I've been researching this tree. My husbands' grandfather was William Tecumseh Amos, son of Tecumseh Cecil Amos, whose father was George w. Amos.
We were told the family had Cherokee blood., but cannot
prove it. I'm trying to find more info on William T. Amos.
Mainly, when he died, and where he is buried.
Hoping that maybe you have any info on William?

I'm the grandaughter of Paul Mason Amos and Bertha Ann Gann Amos. Grandmother passed away very young after having 10 childlen. My grandfather lived to be in his 90s and passed away in the 70's. They had several children: Gladys (my mother); Reba; Thelma; Arnetta; Joyce; J.D.; P.D.; O.D. and Bobby. Does any of this sound like your family?

Origin of Amos

Hello.
Whilst searching the message boards for Stoke on Trent families, I saw your request for the origin of the name Amos. According to The Oxford Cpmpanion, which is a dictionary of the meaning of surnames and forenames, Amos has 2 origins -
1) In Jewish families, the surname is derived from the 8th century prophet whose oracles are recorded in the Bible, in The Book of Amos. In Hebrew, the name means "borne by god".
2) The English surname Amos, is a variation of Amis. The name Amis was introduced into England from 1066, when Duke William of Normandy became King of England. Amis, was a common name in France being derived from an old French word meaning "friend"
Other variations are Amiss, Amison (English)/Amiot, Amiel (French)/D'Amico, De Amicis (Italian)

The Amos family tree gets a little tricky for me as I go back.Allot of information is misleading, with children being before or after a parent dies. I'm looking for someone who has accurate information. My tree goes like this:
Robert Earl Amos {me}IOWA
Jack Earl Amos {my father}IOWA
Earl w Amos {My grandfather}IOWA
Elias Amos {Great Grandfather}IOWA

That's as far as my immediate relatives know. Anyone with a similar tree?

It has linked me to about 400 plus names to add to your tree. Some information is missing due to lost connections, but those are being reconnected. I have the family groups broken down and available electronicly. I have added the new names to a master tree that I am making and making contact with Ancestry members to get the correct infomation to make the master file as accurate as possible. Thank you

Hi, I have Harrison ancesters who lived in Paterson. James (b @1785 England) died before 1850 dont know when or where but have his wife Ann and 1 of their 9 children info since 1850 Ohio. I looking for the other children and back.

John Thomas Amos was born 1829?, died 5/27/1864. He married Margaret Rose Caroline Burdett born 1843, died 1928. He had siblings..named Sarah M. Amos who married Jonathan Willoughby, Syndrilla Amos married Thomas Disharoon, James B. Amos married Harriet ?, William M. Amos married Mary Ann Willoughby (my great grandfather), and Abel M. Amos married Avarilla (Avanetta). John Thomas Amos' parents were Casper M. Amos and Christian Robinson. Casper M. Amos' parents were John Casper Amos and Margaret Webber.

I haven't seen anything yet about your grandmother. My mom has the bible, and is currently getting the info scanned for electronic records. What she has told me is that it is birth, death, and marriage dates from my great grandfater Hiram "Harry" Russell Amos bible. It also has family index pages from other bibles, and alot of newspaper clipping. Mom should have it done soon, but when is the question.

Lillian was the daughter of George Amos and Sarah Elizabeth Amos (nee Roddis), George was born at Clifford in Yorkshire and Sarah at Ecton, Northampton. I am interested in Lillian's daughter Adeline Amos Thornton (her only surviving child) born 1909 at Salt Lake City, Utah. It would appear that she married someone called Cooper but I cannot find any records. In 1934 (according to Lillian's Citizenship papers) she was living at Mina, Nevada, then a blank until her death in 1993 in Butte, California. I am also interested in finding out if Lillian and Samuel Ross Wyvill had any children.

I am trying to find any family of Annie Dora Amos born in Oct 1892 in Hendon Middlesex. I believe her father was George Amos. It is possible that she was the youngest of several children as family folklore has it that she stayed in England with a grandmother/aunt when the rest of the family went to America. George Amos died sometime before 1919. Her mother's name could be Sarah Elizabeth. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am a descendant of Mary Ada Amos who married Oliver Perry Morton Ponton. She was the daughter of William Harrison Amos, then Ditto Amos, then Elijah Amos, then Nicholas Day Amos Sr. then Valentine Amos and then William Amos.

I'd love to connect with folks to share whatever information we can, but I am especially keen on locating a copy of the book entitled " The Children of Mt Soma".

Anybody out there know where I can get a copy?

I have found information that Mordecai Amos that married Prudence son of Nicholas day Amos. Someone said that Mordecai had a son named Asbury Amos that married Lucy Bryers in Jessamine Co ky in 1811. It is said that he was a bondsman at the time with mention of his sister Lucinda Amos that married George Crane. Can anyone confirm this information? i have been searching for a conection on this for years and am excited to find this information however i cannot confirm that Asbury was bondsman or that Mordecai had a son named Asbury. it just seems likely since Asbury is found in this tree several times. Thanks in advance.

John Amos 1818 to 1880

Born Cannock, died Cannock, but was he the son of John Amos 1777 to 1848 who emigrated to Tasmania in 1821? If he is how did he happen to return to UK? Does anyone have proof that it's the same John Amos?

Hi. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to your post but I have been away from home for a few days.
There is a chance that this John could be connected to my line but I have no proof. I say this because since I first placed a message on the board the earliest ancestor I have found is John Amos Tailor born Northumberland abt 1728. The first record I have is his marriage in 1762 at which time he was living in Errington, Northumberland There were a lot of Amos' living around Elsdon and Birdhope Craig. Elsdon is about 19 miles from Errington and abt 30 miles from Howick. Birdhope Craig was about 10 miles from Elsdon. I do wonder if my family was related to these Amos' and if they originally came from Scotland. But as I have said I have not confirmed this as yet and am still working on finding a connection. Long winded I know but sadly I cannot give you a definate answer.

I have a 4X Great Grandfather John Amos b circa 1780 with a daughter Wilhelmina b 1810 who lived in Hawick with her husband Thomas Douglas. John was married to an Isabella Lawson and is listed as being a Master Taylor although I have no idea whether they lived in Hawick or just across the border in Northumberland. Is this a possible relation ?

Abe Amos

Looking for any information on my great-great grandfather Abe Amos. The only record for him that I can find is the 1910 Census from Denton, Texas. At this point in time he was 23 so his birth is roughly 1887. His birth state is listed as Alabama, same for his parents. Possible middle name of Newton. Web rumor has him born in Etowah County, Alabama but I cannot nail this down at all. He died some time between 1910 and 1920 as my great-great grandmother is remarried in the 1920 census. I can't find him in Denton, County anywhere nor in Texas death records so as to get more birth info. If anyone knows of him in Etowah County or Denton County, please let me know. It's possible his parents are Green Amos and Paralee Campbell but again this is web rumor.

My Amos Family Started From Iron Acton Gloucestershire England in the 1800`s also Westbury on Trym Gloucestershire.My Gt Grandfather was George Amos Born 1869 Bristol England His son my Grandfather Herbert Amos was Born in 1889 In Laytonstone Essex England .
