I have just read your post, but I suppose you have found out a lot by now? My husband, Nicholas Anderton, is also descendant from James Anderton and Elizabeth Rothwell. His grandfather, George Frederick Anderton (born 1888), was a younger brother of your grandmother Elizabeth. James and his brother George went from Manchester to Birmingham in around 1870, because George is registered as a lodger in Harborne in the 1871 census. Have you been able to go very far back in time? The earliest we could find are James Anderton and Ann Chadwick marrying in Manchester. I suppose we have to go there to find out more. I am Dutch and Nicholas works and lives in Luxembourg at the moment.

I do not have any more information on Uriah Anderton, except that he was my great grandfather. Sarah Ann Anderton was my grandmother, married to Edmund Bamford, approximately 1897 and emigrated to America, along with my father and his brother and sister in 1920.

Hi,

I am looking for information on Uriah Anderton, born 1842-44 in Lancashire, England. In various censuses, his Lancashire birthplace was listed as Littleborough, Butterworth, or Rochdale: Blatchinworth and Calderbrook.

Uriah was living with his grandfather John Parrow or Farrow when he was 9 (along with Uriah's sister, Margaret Ann).

In the 1861 census, Uriah was living with his cousin, Alfred Wild (married to Sarah Wild).

By 1871, he was married to a Mary Ellen. The children of Uriah and Mary Ellen were: John William, George Thomas, Harry, Walter, and Sarah Ann.

Any information on Uriah, his parents, or his wife Mary Ellen would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
KN
email: kelliekouponer at gmail.com
apprenticeships 1700's uk

Hello,

Further to my queries on Anderton's. I have a Thomas Anderton who died in 1740, following is his details taken from ancestry records:

Extracted parish records
27th march 1740 Thomas Anderton, b. joiner.

In 1734 his wife Sarah died 20th June. It states she was the wife of Thomas Anderton b. joiner.

My question, would he have had an apprenticeship and might someone do a lookup for him in any records on ancestry. He married in wigan in 1727 and was "of Billinge". I am looking for an age and/or parents or parent please. Any help much appreciated. Thank you. I dont know if he was a joiner when he married as it doesnt give his occupation.I am picking he was born around the late 1600's early 1700's. Fingers crossed.

popsit/NZ

Henry Anderton / Ellen Wood

My connection to the Anderton family is:
My gggrandfather, Joseph Southern married Sarah Anderton. Sarah was born about 1848 in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England, according to the 1861 England Census or in Ashton under Lyne, Cheshire, England, according to the 1851 Census.
Her father was shown as Henry Anderton and mother as Ellen Wood. They were married 15 Feb. 1836 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.

Ellen Anderton, with daughters Alice and Sarah, are in the 1851 England Census living next to Abigail and Ann Wood, in Dukinfield, Lancashire. Henry Anderton is not listed.

Their son, James, was born in 1855 in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England, with his father shown as Henry Anderton.

In the 1861 England Census, Ellen, Sarah and James show up in the household of James Allum. Ellen is shown as his wife; James and Sarah are listed as stepchildren.

In the 1880 U.S. Census, James Anderton is living with Sarah and Joseph Southern in Sutersville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

If I have not confused everyone, I would like to know if anyone has any information on these families and especially about Henry Anderton who appears and disappears during this time period. Thanks.

Jasper Anderton Blount Co AL

Hi folks,

My Pierce line is my brick wall.

Jasper Anderton was the first husband of my gg-grandmother, Louvenia Emaline Pierce. They married in Blount Co 19 April 1857 and appear in the 1860 census of Blount Co with Henry Clay Anderton aged 1 year . In this census, Jasper is shown as being born ~1829 SC.

A Jasper N. Anderton appears in a list of the Confederate Camp of Instruction (Talladega AL). What is a Camp of Instruction? Is this the same Jasper Anderton?

In the 1870 census, my gg-grandmother appears in the census of Madison Co AL. There is no sign of Jasper or Henry Clay. Did Jasper die during the civil war? What happened to Henry Clay Anderton?

John Anderton and Ruth Blakely Anderton of Blount county had a son Jasper that appeared in his John's will probated 1873--well after the war. The 1850 census shows a Jasper living with them that was born ~1834.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

It's been six years since you've posted, so I hope you are still interested in helping us American cousins find our Anderton relatives!
The information I have is William Anderton, born approx. 1830, married Alice Prior and they had Ted, Arthur, and George, Maude and Margaret (I think--she was referred to as "Madge"). George, the fourth born, I think, was born in 1859. At the time of George's birth, they were living in Liverpool. William was a sugar importer, which led to his death of yellow fever in New Orleans in 1878. Poor Ted died of typhoid fever in Philadelphia while also in the sugar business. I understand Margaret was a talented pianst who supported herself.
William's father was named Thomas and he was married to Margaret Webster.
Gosh! It would be absolutely great to find out more!
It would be wonderful to make any cousin connections! I imagine your children are all grown up by now..
Sincerely,
Melissa Snow

I would also be interested in the Lancanshire Andertons, of whom there seem to be many!
In particular, I'm trying to find out more about a Thomas Aderton, married to Margaret Webster; they had at least one child, William, who married Alice Prior, approx. in the 1850's. They had Arthur, Ted, and George, and two sisters, I believe were Margaret and Maude. At this time, they lived in Liverpool; William and his son Ted exported sugar out of Liverpool.
Thank you for any further information you may be able to give,
Melissa

Hello,
Would you please give the dates of Thomas Anderton? I have a George Anderton,(1859-1931), born in Liverpool, who had brothers Arthur and Ted. His father was William Anderton, of Liverpool, England, and William's father was Thomas Anderton. No birth dates for William, but he died prematurely in 1878 of yellow fever. No dates at all for Thomas Anderton. William Anderton, and his son, Ted, were in the sugar importing business.
Thank you for any information you may have,
Sincerely,
Melissa Snow

Hello, I wonder if we might be trying to find out more about the same family tree?
The only George Anderton I know of was born in Liverpool in 1859, his father was William Anderton and his grandfather was Thomas Anderton. The only dates I have, other than George, is for William; no birth dates, but date of death is 1878. He was a sugar importer and died of yellow fever while in New Orleans. He was married to Alice Prior and had three sons, Arthur, George, and Ted (who died of typhoid fever in Philadelphia while also in the sugar importing business). (He also had two daughters, one known as "Madge") Does any of this fit in with your family information? Would be glad to correspond with you if it does!

Esther Anderton b. 1842 New Bedford, MA

Esther Anderton, born 23 May 1842 in New Bedford, MA, died 19 Oct 1919, [Fall River] Massachusetts. She is buried on Oak Grove Cemetry, New Bedford, MA.
This woman gave the rest of her burial plot to family of mine, George L Chace and his wife Lily (Lillian) Baron. More Chace's are buried there now. Every year before Memorial Day we visit the graves, plant flowers and put some flowers on the grave of Esther Anderton. But who is she? Found that she born in New Bedford (same date as on the gravestone). She seems to appear in several directories of Fall River, MA. But for the rest she is totally unknown, cannot find her in any census. As her birth information is the same as on her gravestone one would think she probably did not get married (or married and divorced).
Any information is very welcome!

Hi, I am looking for my great-grandmother Annie Anderton (nee Roebuck and/or Armstead - long story!). She was born 1870 in Yorkshire, England and reputedly moved to the USA sometime after Dec 1902. I cannot find her in the ship's records, and suspect she may have remarried before moving abroad (although I cannot find a marriage either!).

Thanks. Here's hoping!

I have a line of Anderton's in London beginning with William Anderton born about 1791 in St Sepulchre. He married Mary HARRIS daughter of James and Philadelphia HARRIS. From the censuses I've picked up 3 children - perhaps the youngest three born in St George in the East: Jane P, Hannah and Howard ANDERTON.
Interested in any information on this family.
They were probably non-conformist given the connections with the HARRIS family and Howard ANDERTON married Harriet ORSMOND, daughter of a non-conformist missionary.
