The same J. Frank Andres is mentioned in the book,
The Humphrey Families in America. However, the book spells the surname as Andrus. The book also states that J. Frank Andrus' father was Frank Andrus and was from Oberlin, Ohio.
The Hillsdale College in Michigan lists a Frank Andres in 1880. J. Frank married Samantha "Mattie" Humphrey and lists Hillsdale County as their home on the marriage cert. in 1882. They had one child, Ethel Andres, who is also listed in the Humphrey book. J. Frank told his grandson he was from Troy, NY, and sent to Michigan as a lad.

When my he and my mother divorced, he moved to a small town outside Weatherford Texas. To the best of my knowledge his widow and daughter from that marriage are still alive.

Hi Andres,
Andreas is part of my girlfriend's line. What I've found is that he came from Germany between 1867 and 1870 with his wife Mary and several children (1870 Fayette TX, 1880 Williamson, TX). His mother's name was Anna. His wife Mary must have died in either Fayette or Lee county because he remarried in Lee county to Wilhemine Progenitz in 1875. By 1880 they were in Walburg. Any way, my girlfriend descends from his daughter (with Mary) Martha Lena (Schneider) Feindt. She married Wilhelm Feindt of Bell county and 1885 at the Zion Church. Just got into this family myself but hope that helps some,
Dan Hale

I have a Francis Henry Andres who served in Napoleon's army, and we know he died in Germany, but that's all we know about him. No dates or anything. But we do know his wife's maiden name was Elizabeth Klug (born: 1802, Bavaria, Germany, migrated to U.S. with Johann "John" Andres, Sr. in 1855).

Johann Andres (John, Sr.)
Born: May 20, 1846, Rhenish, Bavaria, Germany; Died: Feb. 29, 1912, Dover, IN (flu)

Elizabeth later married Philip Spring (Born in 1825, Bavaria) at least after arriving in U.S. in 1855. Francis Henry's sister was Agatha, who married Balthasar Hammerle.

So does anyone have anything on Francis Henry or Elizabeth Klug? I'd love to go back further than 1802.

Joseph Andres b 1840 in St. Louis, Lorraine, France, married Elisabeth Hild and had 12 kids. Naming patterns are similar in that they had a Rose, Clara, Albert, and Joseph. Father Joseph was a carpenter, he had a brother Nicolas, my GGF, who was a blacksmith. Joseph stayed in Detroit, Nicolas went to Bay City. Their father was Joseph Andres, who married Marie Anne Schmitt in 1838 in Lorraine. Let me know if you think there is any connection here. Thanks.
Regards

Andres, the Greek form, not spanish, has been corrupted on two occassions that I have found, both to the Entress or
Von Entress side in early europe. Once in 179AD and then again in 1256AD. Making the connection to Europe is the hardest task, unless you like me still have cousins in old Europe. Mine are from Ragensburg in 179AD, And errected the Porta Prectoria and the Casta Regina, and again in 1256 at Waaperswill, outside Zurich, anotyher outpost of the ceasar in 179ad
We go back every 5 yrs for the big family reunion, and search old cemetaries and vicar records
Happy hunting, will give you a shout when I get more info
Brad Entress
By the way, the Lorraine is on the border, and many come from the very tip, in the mountains, the most fierest fighters every encountered

My g-grandfather was, J. Frank Andres, and probably not from the same family as in the previous thread. However, I will throw out this information in case it rings a bell with another Andres.
J. Frank Andres, used the name Frank. He was b. abt 1849, in Troy, New York. According to his grandson, as a young boy Frank was sent to live with his father's brother in Jackson, Michigan. He married Mattie Humphrey in 1872 in Manchester, Mich., Mattie and Frank were at that time residents of Jonesville, Mich. Their only child was Ethel Andres Fessler.
I have never been able to locate the Michigan Andres family who took in Frank. There was a large prominent Andres family in Troy which is a possible link, but unable to prove. Frank's death certificate listed his parents as unknown, but he told his grandson that his mother was an Irish bond servant. Nothing about his father. The Troy Andres family mentioned had several Irish female servants and possibly Frank was illegitimate.
Frank was well educated and an inventor. He worked for the United Safety Gas Machine Company out of Bellville, Ill. and invented and perfected the safety gas machine.

Hello,
I am excited that you have found my post and responded. Thank you for your willingness to share your research. I have done some research on the Andres line, and actually the gentleman (Robert) whose response is shown above in the line has provided a wealth of information about the Andres line. Unfortunately, I have had little time for research in the last several years. My line runs along yours, and in some areas crosses. If you are interested in looking further into the Andres line, I highly recommend Robert, his research has proven to be quite reliable.

Thank you.

Hi Terri, Yes, they were at buried at St Magdalene. You may know the story. In 1941 the government created the Jefferson Proving Grounds and St. Magdalene Cemetery was moved along with several others. It is now a part of St. Patricks in the northern part of Madison, Indiana In fact immediately across the drive from the church you will find many Nauerts. I understand that they are buried in the same arrangement as before. There you will find Mary along side Jacob Nauert (1849) and also her mother.

When I was there last, a few years ago, the caretaker was a brother of Sandy Meisberger who lived in Ripley county and was very deep into the genealogy of the area.

Carl
