At one time, I had someone post re: The Angelo family, that they'd moved from PA to IL/Ind and back to PA and he had used his wife's name, Angelo, tho his was John Miller (I *think*) There was some immigration involved, from the Sicilian areas, I believe.(?) ~Thx/Sherry
My Maternal Grandmother came from Naples, Italy around 1900. She had relatives (Brothers I think) that went to
Pennsylvania and Louisiana. She went to St. Louis, Mo., with her Mother and had an arranged marriage to Phillippe (sp?) Deida. They had 6 children. My Mother, Mary, was one of
their children. I know very little re her immigration. I
think I found her on a passenger list. Her maiden name was
Angelina Angelo. She was later called Julia Deida. She died in 1948.

Anthony M. "Tony" Angelo, 86, son of the late James and Clara (Pricor) Angelo.*Knights of Columbus *

Anthony M. Angelo
Latrobe

Anthony M. "Tony" Angelo, 86,
of Latrobe,
died peacefully Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. A lifelong resident of the community he loved, his name is synonymous with Latrobe, in particular its Fourth of July Celebration, often referred to as "Tony's Picnic." Tony was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Latrobe, a son of the late James and Clara (Pricor) Angelo. He spent his formative years at Holy Family Parochial School. It was in elementary school where his vocal talents came to light. He was often identified as the Bobby Breen of Southwestern Pennsylvania, referring to his contemporary who was a radio and film star in the 1930s at age 7. Frequently invited to sing the National Anthem at local and regional events, including conventions of his beloved Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tony was a cantor in later life, and a member of the funeral choir at his parish, St. John the Evangelist Church, in Latrobe. He was also affectionately known as the singing mayor of Latrobe. A 1942 graduate of Latrobe High School, Tony's life was built on service. Employed by ALCO Products for 36 1/2 years, he was co-founder of the first Office Workers Local in Latrobe, serving as president, and in various offices through 1968. The First Ward committeeman served Borough Council for eight years, chairing the Police Committee through 1967. In 1970, he was elected mayor, a post he held for eight years. In 1980, he was elected district justice. During his 11 years on the bench, he also served as president of the Westmoreland County District Justice Association. He retired March 8, 1991. Chairman and founder of the Borough Heart Fund and March of Dimes Program, and a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, he felt strongly about providing for the needs of others, as he himself had been a victim of polio as a young man. A sports enthusiast, he served as president of the Westmoreland County Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and enjoyed lending his support to many sports and social organizations. He held life memberships at the Kingston Vets and Sportsman Club and Frontier Club as well as membership in the Touchdown Club and Westmoreland Athletic Club. He was an honorary member of the Latrobe Fire Department, a First Ward Fireman and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 23. He was also a member of the Daniel B. Nolan Council 940 Knights of Columbus and served on the Westmoreland County Columbus 500 Committee. A member of the Sons of Italy, he was honored as Italian Man of the Year in 1992. He was also awarded the 1988 Community Service Award by the Latrobe Area Chamber of Commerce and honored with a lifetime membership in the Latrobe Historical Society along with many other awards and honors too numerous to mention. But his greatest service was to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, an organization to whom he devoted more than 50 years. As evidence of that service, the Latrobe lodge was renamed in his honor as the Tony Angelo Aerie No. 01188. Secretary of the local for half a century, and the state aerie from its office in Latrobe, he held the office of State President in 1972 to 1973. In 1977, he was elected the National Grand Worthy President, and was chairman of the board in 1978. Inducted into the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall of Fame, he served as chair of the Grand Aerie FOE Judiciary Committee and traveled extensively for both the state and national organizations.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his loving wives, Dorothy (Puchan) Angelo, in 1963,
and Marjorie (Yadesky) Angelo, in 1997;
a brother-in-law, William Melago;
and two sisters-in-law, Kay Puchan and Yolanda "Lolly" Puchan. He is survived by his daughter, Tina Marie Angelo Flamminio, her husband, Dante Flamminio, his granddaughter, Francesca Marjorie Flamminio, and his grandson, Anthony Angelo Flamminio, all of Drexel Hill; his brother, Tom Angelo, and his sister, Muffy Melago, both of Latrobe; two brothers-in-law, John Puchan, of Latrobe, and Rudy Puchan, of Venice, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special caregiver, Roxanne Mowry, of Latrobe. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Members of the FOE Tony Angelo Aerie No. 01188 will hold services at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Evangelist Church, 306 St. John Drive, Latrobe, with the Rev. Anthony Carbone as celebrant. Private interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Latrobe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the FOE Tony Angelo Aerie No. 01188, 215 Spring St., Latrobe, PA 15650; the Latrobe VFD Hose Company No. 1, 390 Oak St., Latrobe, PA 15650; or to the Holy Child Academy, 475 Shadeland Ave., Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh ,

St. John the Evangelist Church, "
I should be grateful for any information about my paternal grandmother, Gladys Angelo (1890 - 1920). She was the first wife of my Grandfather, Michael Oldfield Angelo (1887 - 1965). I only have records of her marriage in 1913 and death in 1920, both in Dehra Dun, India.

I have a pretty good picture of the Angelo family in India during the C19th (a fair bit is in the public domain).

1916 postcard sent by C. ANGELO of Lodi, New Jersey to Como, Italy

I recently found an old postcard that C. ANGELO of Lodi, New Jersey sent to Como, Italy in 1916. You can see the postcard on http://philgen.org (search on ANGELO, select the one with CALATI, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I want to determine if Como, Italy is the birthplace of C. ANGELO (or of his/his parents) and if this postcard is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. I am unable to find an ANGELO family in Lodi, New Jersey at the address written on the postcard, and wondered if someone can locate the ANGELO family in a census or similar source document. The reason I have a photo of the postcard is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the Winter 2010 issue of American Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy Update (viewable at the philgen website) and have started the philgen website.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the postcard: http://philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=form&am...

JA,

My great-grandfather is Nicola Angelo and on his WWI draft card it states his birthplace as "Naples, Chieti, Italy" which doesn't make much sense as Naples and Chieti are on opposite sides of the peninsula. But as any lead is worth checking out, maybe I can learn more about Angelos from Chieti.

I know Nicola was born 1889 and emigrated 1895, although I can't find any record of his parents emigrating with him. His father was Carmine Angelo who I do not know much about. That is unfortunately all I know about my Angelos prior to arriving in the United States, and I haven't found anything about a name change from Angelisto.

One other thing I know that my Angelos are of the genetic haplogroup I1, which is not very common in Italy and originates from Scandinavia, just in case anyone knows of any Norman or Gothic ancestry of the Angelos. (It's been suggested to me that the name Angelo could come from Anglia in Denmark, the home of the Angles.)

Thanks!

My great-grandfather was Nicholas Angelo and he lived in Pittsburgh most of his life. He was from Naples, and his father's name is Carmine. He changed his name to Harry Miller and has children Vincent, James, Nicholas, and Margaret by wife Jennie Labarbera. I don't know if he had any siblings, but if any of this looks familiar, let me know.

H5 mtdna - Lucinda Angelo-b:1857/McLean,IL ?

This is a far-fetched attempt to fill in the blanks of my maternal ancestry...My results from the mtDNA tests, show a link to some Slovenian ancestry, KS, ca1920..a common ancestoral line. Slovenia is at the NE border of Italy. Some refugees did and do immigrate due to ethnic persecutions. I was doing some random searching and found a reference to Lucinda Angelo, b:1857 in McLean, IL. I don't know if Angelo was her maiden name or married name.
According to the results for the line, where her name's listed, her mtdna results are an exact to mine and I'd like to see if there's a common denominator in our trees that might help me (and someone else, maybe?) find out who the "Unknown" women in my tree are. I have a Daniel/David Corn/w/ell b:Clermont,OH 1847, who married 2 unknown women born in Arkansas, probably late 1860's. lst wife, died in TX..according to an 1880 Census for McDonald Co.,MO, where he'd left his 3 dtrs to "go back to Texas"...One of these girls was my G-grandmtr and I'd love to find more abt her parents. Her G-ftr was George Corn/w/ell who was married at that time, to a Mrs Helen Marie Sartwell-Evans, who died in 1882, leaving a housefull of kids to be scattered among relatives, I suppose. Some of the descendants think the "Unknown" women may have been from a Lovell family, in NW Arkansas. As I mentioned, I don't know if the Angelo name was from a marraige or a maiden name. I was born in IL, abt 50 miles east of St. Louis and figure my dad knew someone there...he and his dad worked in the Oilfields, he was working for Midwest Drilling, OK City, OK at the time, mid 1940's. If this goes with anybody else's mysteries, please let me know and maybe we can find some answers?
A note is that some of the near matches for the mtdna results point to a Fogel/Fogle..Vogel/ar name, also. I wasn't familiar with these surnames, but they are Slovenian..Mediteranian, etc..I see a Miller name tied to the Angelo name and I have a lot of ancestors who had experience in the shipping industries, transferring these trades to intercoastal pursuits, in the early 1800's etc.
Thanks.
SAMcClellan
PO Bx 585
Arlington,OR
97812-0585
or..
artogo4u@yahoo.com

I'm looking for any information on my great-grandfather's family. His name was Nicola Angelo and he was born in southern Italy, possibly near either Naples or Chieti around 1890. His family immigrated to Allegheny County Pennsylvania when he was young. He usually went by Nicholas, and by the time he was married he had changed his name to Harry Miller. His wife's name was Jennie, and his children were Vincent, James, Margaret, and Nicholas. He had three brothers, Lawrence, Tony, and Thomas. His parents went by Jean and Mary. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have a set of books I bought from my local library.

The title of the set is "Children & Youth in America". The years discussed in these volumes
are 1866-1932.

ANYWAY...there is a chapter that discusses "An Unfair Trial" "Angelo v. The People, 96 ILL. 209"

"Mr. Justice Walker delivered the opinion of the Court:"

"At the August term, 1878, of the Morgan circut court, the grand jury presented an indictment
against John Angelo, then about seventy-eight years of age, and his son, for the murder of
Isaac Hammill."

If anyone is interested in this line, I would be happy to transcribe the information from the book for you.

This is not an advertisement. :-) I am just stuck on my own research right now, and I thought
if I could do something productive for someone else...

Well, just let me know if you want the rest of the info.

Kathy katanderson25@hotmail.com

John Angelo's Murder Trial

Kathy
