I am descended from Dorset Ansteys. Mine lived in various villages around Blandford Forum. I have only been able to get back to about 1817, and Charles Hart Anstey. His father was possibly George Anstey. I have been through many of the local parish records, but there are some missing generations that make it very difficult to tie families together.

If you think we might be related in some way, then I would love to hear from you.

Graham

Hi, My grandfather was Ernest Anstey, who lived in Newfoundland all his life along with his sisters Althea and Millie and brother Cecil. I know that Lloyd moved to the States many years ago and was unfortunately killed in an work accident. There are still many Anstey's in Twillingate.

My name is Barbara Strong, and I am the grand daughter of Amelia Ann Murcell who emigrated to Milton MA from Little Bay Islands in New Foundland Canada. Amelia was the daughter of William and Lydia Mursell. I believe she was married in Twillingate, and she may have lived in Piley's Island. She was known as "Annie", adn I believe she had a sister "Fannie" or "Fanny" AKA Francis. After Amelia's husband died at age 36, Mr. John Robert ("Jack") Knight lived in her house as a border. He had one leg, and I don't know if they were just friends, or something more. His family came from New Foundland also. He appears as a member of her household in the census records from 1930. MsBarbaraStrong@gmail.com

Hi Carolyn; My grandfather was Ernest Anstey. Your grandfathers brother. You mention that Alfred Leslie had five siblings, he actually had 8. There was also Fred, Frank, and Harry. Fred married Myrtle and had a son Woodrow. Fred was married in NY around the time Lloyd was killed out there. Fred returned to Twillingate shortly thereafter and moved in briefly with my grandfather and grandmother Hilda in Back Harbour. Frank married Daisy and spent their lives in Twillingate. Harry married Lily and likewise spent their lives in Back Harbour. Aunt Millie and Althea never married and never left home. Literally! Millie had one daughter Judy who was quite ill and died in her 40's. The two Anstey sisters lived in the same house that they were born and raised. When they died, a decade ago, they left all their money to St. Peter's church in Twillingate and the house to Ernest's son Bernard, who recently sold it. My mother remembers all these people very well, even your father. She has kept excellent records of all Anstey family info, births, deaths, marriages etc. As a child, I always spent time in Twillingate, unfortunatly, I am in Ontario now and can not get back nearly as often as I'd like. It is a beautiful and rare place Carolyn and if you have never been there, I would advise that you go.

Hello Viv,

Thank you so for your reply. For years I've had this "gap" with the Anstey family which with just the information you've written has enabled me to begin to fill in. I didn't know Maud's Father was also on the Isle of Wight but I did know her maternal Grandfather lived there at one stage.
If you could email me at amac6362@telstra.com I woud be grateful. This is a mailbox that I keep for this purpose and I can then give you my main url.
Many thanks,
Anne
