Hi,

I know this message is 5 years late, but I'm a distant descendant of Paulus Antoni and have recently found a lot of information on him!

Paulus Antoni immigrated to the US from Germany on Sep 29, 1741 on the ship Lydia. He was 22 years old. His name was changed to Paul Antonie or Anthony. He settled in or near Philadelphia in a region formerly called New Goshenhoppen (now Montgomery County).

Paul married Anna Maria Sophronica Sechler ("Froney"). Their children were Anna Maria Andenis, Philip, Abraham, John Paul, Anna Elizabeth, Martin, and Jacob. By 1763 they had moved out of Pennsylvania and owned land in the Catawba River area of North Carolina. Paul died sometime before 1805 in Burke County, NC.

Much of this was found on FamilySearch.org. By the way, I am descended from their daughter Anna Maria Andenis (Mary Ann), who married John Mull.

Regards,
Katie

Looking for descendants of William Anthony and Barbara Sommer. William immigrated around 1882, and I believe he probably came from Germany with his parents, Franz Antoni and Carolina Grusglass Antoni. I do not know if he had siblings or if any of them immigrated. They settled in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.

Barbara immigrated from Germany about 1881 with her parents Lorenz Sommer and Margaret Schmidt Sommer and at least 2 of her siblings, Conrad and Adam. Sister Mary was born in Pennsylvania.

Barbara and William were married November 17, 1891 at St. Michael's church on the south side of Pittsburgh. Their children were:

Lawrence
William J who married Theresa (2 children)
Margaretha “Clara: married George Columbus and Jack Trainor
Maria Carlina “Colletta”
Anna Ruth married Ross Sorce (5 sons)
Edwardus
Margaret
Francis married Ann
Mary

If you think we are connected, please contact me, either through Ancestry or asorce64@cox.net.

I've done extensive research on NEFF/NEEF of Baden Germany and discovered ANTONI of Germany connected to NEEF as follows:

1. Jacob ANTONI (b.2 Oct 1827-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
sp: Juliana NEEF (b.28 Sep 1828-Brotzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden;m.16 Feb 1851;d.30 Apr 1872-Brotzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Andreas ANTONI (b.31 Aug 1852-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden;d.19 Sep 1852-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Rosina Barbara ANTONI (b.18 Sep 1853-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden;d.27 Sep 1853-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Agnes ANTONI (b.25 Sep 1854-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Christoph Ludwig ANTONI (b.14 Dec 1856-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden;d.23 Aug 1857-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Johann Jacob ANTONI (b.4 Jun 1858-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Eva Dorothea ANTONI (b.13 May 1860-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden;d.29 Mar 1874-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Wilhelm Christian ANTONI (b.10 May 1862-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Anna Maria ANTONI (b.11 May 1864-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)
2. Juliana ANTONI (b.4 Oct 1865-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden;d.26 Jan 1866-Broetzingen,Karlsruhe,Baden)

Information above from IGI. I've tracked Juliana NEEF lineage back to Simon NEEF, born about 1610. This is all I have in regards to ANTONI. Any connection to these ANTONIs?

Re: About the Last Name Origin?

My husband's last name is Antoni. His father emigrated (was displaced) after WWII. The family was driven out of their home in Glaserhau, now called Sklene, in what is Slovakia. They insist they are not Polish either but Slovak. When they visited Slovakia in the early 1990s, my husband and his parents heard from the man at the border that Antoni was a "real Slovakisch name." They were probably originally Germans who moved to the area sometime around 1700. After the war, all German descendants living in the area were forced out. For us, anyway, that means they definitely were not Polish. My husband's father spoke German but did know some of the Slovak language.

A little background on my husband's family: His grandfather Josef Antoni was born in 1868 in Glaserhau; he died about 1936. His grandmother was Josef's second wife, Anastasia (called Anna) Weis Antoni, born, we believe, in the late 1880s probably. She died about 1938. Please contact me if you'd like to discuss further.

Ok, my grandfather's last name was Antoni, but he was born and immigrated from Czechoslovakia originally. Thing is, Antoni is a Polish/Catalan name! And my grandfather was Czech! What does this mean? We don't have any polish in our family, nor do we have Catalonians!

Hi Judy,

I did not see that post for a long time, sorry.
I got a Franz Xaver Heinrich Antoni, born 1710, in my family.
The place you mentioned should be Sondernheim.
I will check your info about "Sickingen" may be a typo as well.
No Italian roots however, the "I" in Antoni is one of the often used suffixes like "in" in the surname of females. And in the Baden area the "-i" is usted often. Sometimes it even generates a new surname out of an original one (like Anton -> Antoni)
Regards

Michael
Born over there.
Actually in Shanghai

This may just be a coincidence, but, my grandmother way back when, was Mary Antoni born about l765 in VA.Died in Hickman County, TN. Her father was Paulus Antoni. She married John Blackwell, Jr., born l755 in Culpepper, VA. He died l2 Feb l839 in Hickman County, TN. Mary and John had Children: Joseph b. l785 in GA. Nancy b. l790 in SC;John Hamilton, b. after l832 in Scott, AR., Frances, b. l8l0 in GA;James, b. l8l0 in GA. and Jesse b. l786 in SC. John Hamilton Blackwell(my gggrandfather) married Sarah Jane Powell and they had among other children, my great grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Blackwell who married John Allen Campbell. Margaret and John had my grandfather, William Albert Campbell. William married Hattie Blanche Dawson and they had, among other children,my father Harold Allen Campbell. The Blackwells lived in Hickman County, NC, VA,SC. finally moving to Johnson County, AK...where my grandfather was born in Harmony. John Blackwell, Jr. who married Mary Antoni was a Rev Soldier. I can send you the information on that. Is Antoni a Polish name or Italian name? I notice in some of the information I have that the name spelling was changed to Anthony. Interesting!
