I got a copy of the Antrim book published by John antrim's family that lived at the time in the antrim homestead (this was when I was in college - I'm no 67) My mother arranged for a Library of Congress copy to sent to a printing company that copied that type of book and they copied it for us. I didn't have all the pictures copied because they were extra. I'll try to find tha particulars if you are still interested. Jeanette

Anna Louisa Antrim b abt 1850 probably in PA

Genealogy Research Plan
Name of person/family being researched: Anna Louisa Antrim as Mrs Gimber
Date Plan made: 14 January 2012
Researcher: Linda Newman

Objective:
To find information on Anna Louisa Antrim’s first husband. His name; date and place of birth; place and date of marriage; names, birth dates, and birth places of any children they had; date and place of his death (or their divorce).

Known Facts (with sources):
1. Affidavit for widow’s pension for Anna Louisa’s mother, Sarah (Downey) Antrim, called Anna Louisa “Mrs Louisa Gimber.”
2. Address given on affidavit dated 5 February 1886 is 1703 Norris St, Philadelphia. 1886 City Directory lists this as her brother’s, Rev Thomas Mason Antrim’s Residence. It was also listed as Sarah (Downey) Antrim’s residence.
3. Address given on 2nd affidavit dated 30 January 1890 is 1906 S 6th St, Philadelphia. 1887 City directory lists this as Peter Burke’s residence. Peter Burke is married to Anna Louisa’s sister Sarah.
4. Anna Louisa Antrim married Joseph J Reynolds on 1 October 1896 in Camden, NJ according to familysearch.org
5. 1900 census says Anna Louisa had 7 children with 6 still living. Children in the household are Harret Reynolds born 1885 and Rhoda Reynolds born 1888, both listed as having been born in Maryland. Not sure if they are Joseph’s or Anna Louisa’s biological daughters.
6. 1870 census lists Anna Louisa as part of her parents household living in Smyrna, Kent, Delaware. She is not listed as part of her parents’ household on the 1880 census.

Working Hypothesis:
1. Anna Louisa was married 2 times.
2. Her first husband was a Mr Gimber, first name unknown.
3. Anna Louisa married Mr Gimber sometime after the 1870 census.
4. Mr Gimber died(?) prior to 1896, possibly prior to 1886 since she was listed as living at her mother’s address at that point. Either that or Anna Louisa and Mr Gimber divorced prior to 1896, although that is a less likely probability because divorce was less common at that point in time.
5. Her 2nd husband was Joseph J Reynolds.
6. Anna Louisa gave birth to 7 children, 1 child died prior to 1900.
7. That Harret and Rhonda are not her biological children.

Research Strategies (specific records to check):
1. Continue to search for the Gimber family on the 1880 census.
2. Search for a marriage record for Anna Louisa Antrim to a Mr Gimber.
3. Search for a death record for Mr Gimber, who was married to an Anna Louisa.
4. Search for birth records for Gimber children born to a mother with the maiden name of Antrim.
5. Find birth records for Harret and Rhonda Reynolds (or marriage records if they list a mother’s name on them) to discover if they are Anna Louisa’s children or Joseph’s children from a prior marriage.
6. Possible Mr Gimber’s to check: Henry W Gimber d 1895 Burk County, Pa; Jacob Gimber d 1892 Pittsburg, Pa;
7. Check City Directories for “Gimber” 1870-1896
8. Check newspapers for information on Gimber birth, marriage, death announcements.
9. See if there is a will or probate record for Anna Louisa’s father, John Antrim, who died 22 July 1885 in Hampton, Va at a Soldier’s Home. Check both Va and Pa for any records as he died in VA but his and his family’s residence was in PA

Notes:
There is a Henry W Gimber, who was born 31 Mar. 1840 and died 27 Dec. 1895. He was buried in Saint Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery, Whitemarsh, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA. Findagrave.com has the following information: Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as a Captain and commander of Company F, 150th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on September 2, 1862. He served until he was honorably mustered out on May 15, 1865. On August 3, 1889 he filed for a United States Army Pension (Application #720755, Certificate #913861). On February 29, 1896 his wife, Mary A. Gimber, filed for a United States Army Widow's Pension (Application #629091, Certificate #464501). (Find A Grave Memorial# 10126858). Henry W’s obit is found on genealogybank.com, published in Philadelphia Inquirer on 30 December 1895 If the information from findagrave is true Henry W. is probably not the correct Mr Gimber.

The Civil War record actually says he deserted the infantry on 8 April 1864 and one record says he mustered out on 8 April 1864. This infantry spent a significant time in Louisiana and in April they were right by Indianola where 417 or 515 reenlisted as veterans. It seems he may have met a girl...possibly and decided to stay in Mississippi. I too have been on the search for the mothers name and am trying to acquire a marriage certificate of Sally Ann Antrim and George Barnes my ggg-grandparents.

Unfortunatley the gedcom file did not come through, please try to send it directly to my email address, applik15@yahoo.com. I too can't find anything on Jenny. I have 2 copies of obituaries for Absalom if you don't have them and want a copy. I will be glad to send. You can also find a record of his death on the Illinois State Archives website. It is online and is free to look up. I am always willing to share information on genealogy.
Cousin, Jean

The Drummonds remain a mystery to me, as well. I've seen references to Mary Jane, but I believe I see Jennie most often used. Her parents were Frank and Sally Drummond, but I've found zero information on them. I've attached a GED export of Jessie and Absalom's ancestors. It's a really interesting line that goes all the way back to the mid-1600's in Massachusetts. Absalom's story is pretty interesting, too. He went off to war in 1861 with the Indiana 8th Infantry. He was mustered out in New Orleans in 1865. In those days, the military didn't pay for your trip home. So, somewhere between Louisiana and Indiana, he met Jennie Drummond and had 5 kids. For some reason he never wrote back home to let anyone know he had survived the war, so his parents believed him to be dead. He farmed in the Mississippi delta area until 1883 when either yellow fever or malaria made him too ill to support his family. He move the family back to Illinois, where his parents had moved. Tragically, he died within 3 months of reuniting with his parents family. His widow and 5 children moved back to the south, and out of the Antrims' history. My grandmother, Jessie, told us that her mother had remarried, but she couldn't remember to whom. Jessie married my grandfather, William James Dean, in 1894 in Bolivar, MS, where they're both buried. I just visited their graves last week when I went back to Memphis for a visit. I live in Colorado now. I hope my information is usefull. Please keep me in mind if you find any data on the Drummonds.

Your cousin,
Bill Dean (wjdean@comcast.net)

I posted a msg to you on the msg board re ANTRIM book 13 June 2008, you were going to get back to me.

I have done some more research on the John ANTRIM/Sarah DOWNEY family since that time and would be more than happy to share it with you. I have also had a chance to look at "Records of the Antrim Family of America" by Harriet S. Antrim and it seems as if my John ANTRIM might possibly be the son of Thomas E ANTRIM and Anna MASON named on page 77 of the book. This is based partly on year of that John being born, the fact he was born in NJ, and my John naming his first born son Thomas Mason ANTRIM, and his second son John E ANTRIM, and his 2nd daughter Anna Louise ANTRIM. And the fact that Thomas E ANTRIM and a John ANTRIM who would fit the right age had a woman of the right age to be his wife Sarah living next to each other on the 1840 census in Upper Freehold, Monmouth, New Jersey. I have some other things that make it a possiblity also that we can discuss if you are interested.

Linda Newman

Emma (ANTRIM) BOYER and Frederick R BOYER

(per marriage affidavit)

Emma ANTRIM was born 10 November 1864 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; was residing at 3035 Frankford Ave: Philadelphia; and was a milliner. (per marriage affidavit)

Marriage certificate says they were married 25 December 1893 in Philadelphia. Signed by Oliver M VanArsdale (I think is what it says) minister of the gospel married at Catholic Apostolic Chapel; 218 No 13th St; Philadelphia.

They only had two children (twins) as far as I know.
Thomas Mason BOYER born 01 Feb 1895 Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; died 12 Feb 1895 Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; buried Mt Vernon Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (per death certificate, father listed at Fredk R Boyer)

Louise Grace BOYER (my paternal grandmother) born 01 Feb 1895 Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (per transcribed birth certificate, erroneously lists father as Fred R. Boyer); died 22 May 1968 San Jose, Santa Clara Co. California; buried Alta Mesa Memorial Park, Palo Alto, Santa Clara Co, California (per Memorial Folder).

For Frederick R Boyer I have the following:
- 1870 Census Pennsylvania, Montgomery, 270th Dist, Pottsgrove Twp Roll 1378 page 259, (census sheet says page 54) lines 19-25
- 1880 Census Pennsylvania, Montgomery, Lower Pottsgrove Roll 1158 page 6 - ED 24 supervisors district 4 page 11 lines 5-11
- 1900 Census finds a Fred R Boyer Pennsylvania, Montgomery, South Ardmore Roll T1443 page 16B Ed 217 line 87 listed as Single
-1909 Philadelphia City Directory lists Fredk Boyer living in same house as brother Edwd R Boyer at 7235 Saybrook
- 1910 Census finds a Frederick R "Boyar" (ancestry.com’s indexing) Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Philadelphia Ward 14, Roll 1391, Page: 15A, Enumeration District: 198, Image: 31, line 33 listed as widower
- according to book "American Boyers" in 1910 residence was 1203 Green St, Philadelphia
-1910 and 1911 Philadelphia City Directories do not list a Fredk Boyer
-1912 Philadelphia City Directory list Fredk R Boyer at 1024 Green
Have not checked any directories newer than 1912.

For Emma (ANTRIM) BOYER I have the following:
- 1860 Census Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Ward 1 Precinct 8, Roll 1151, Page: 442, Image: 443.
- 1870 Census Delaware, Kent, Smyrna, Roll 119, Page: 373, Image: 731
- 1880 Census New Jersey, Monmouth, Neptune, Roll 791 Page 296.4000 ED 117; Image: 0720
- 1900 Census Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, 40-Wd Philadelphia, Roll: 1480 Page: 233 Line 74 and 75 listed as a widow with daughter Louis G Boyer
-Based on a variety of things I am 99% sure that the Emma ANTRIM of the earlier census listed here is the Emma (ANTRIM) BOYER that is my great grandmother. If you want to know the why’s feel free to ask.

My aunt says her mother’s parents died within months of each other when her mother was 9 yrs old. That would mean 1904 or thereabouts, but the American Boyers book and 1910 census seem to say he was still alive in 1910, Philadelphia City Records say maybe even later. So maybe it wasn’t when Louise was 9 but 1909 when her mom died? and dad died sometime in, or after, 1910? Or is it possible that it wasn’t within months of each other but within years of each other? I can not find a death record for either Emma (ANTRIM) Boyer or Frederick R BOYER.

I have Louise G BOYER, niece to h/h on the 1910 Census Pennsylvania, Chester, Upper Oxford, Roll 1329, ED 64, Page 5B lines 76-78 with Joseph J Reynolds and Anna L (this would be Anna Louise ANTRIM sister of Emma ANTRIM).

(Side note: 1900 census has Joseph and Anna Reynolds living in New Jersey, Passaic , 8-Wd Paterson, Roll: 992, Page: 186. Could Emma have gone to stay with her sister in NJ when she became ill and died there? Or had Joseph and Anna already moved to Pennsylvania by the time Emma became ill?)

I have search the Philadelphia City Death Certificates 1903-1915 index on http://search. labs.familysearc h.org/ and did not find either Emma or Frederick listed

Questions:
Were Frederick and Emma divorced or just separated?

When and where did Emma die? Philadelphia? Somewhere else in Pennsylvania? New Jersey?

Where is Emma buried?

When and where did Frederick die? Philadelphia? Pottstown? Someplace else?

Where is Frederick buried?

Are they possibly buried somewhere in Mt Vernon cemetery?
Emma’s brother Rev Thomas Mason ANTRIM had a plot at Mt Vernon cemetery with 9 family member buried in it:
himself,
his mother Sarah ANTRIM,
his sister Kate ANTRIM,
his nephew Thomas Mason BOYER (son of Frederick BOYER and Emma (ANTRIM) BOYER),
3 great nephews - Edgar Antrim HOFFER, Isaac E HOFFER, Edgar A HOFFER (sons of Lillie (ANTRIM) HOFFER),
and
2 great nieces - Dorothy Grace NEWMAN and Violet Louise NEWMAN (daughters of Louise Grace (BOYER) NEWMAN).

"You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Jessie Gevan Antrim was my grandmother. She married William James Dean 11 Jun 1894, Bolivar Co, MS. She was born 18 May 1878 in Issaquena Co, MS, and lived with my family until her death on 27 Mar 1973. Her father Absalom Antrim was a Union soldier with the Indiana 8th Infantry Regiment in the Civil War who married a southern girl, Mary (or Mollie) Sanford, sometime between 1864 and 1871. I'm currently trying to get more information on Mary Drummond, with little success. Hope this helps. The attached is an image of her headstone.

Bill Dean (wjdean@comcast.net)

Caleb Antrim is in my direct lineage. All I have concerning the mother of Caleb Antrim is from a Marriage Application from the Adams County Clerk, Illinois in that Caleb only gave the name of his mother as Hannah Antrim.

There is a Hannah Antrim who was the daughter of Aden Antrim. But if she married an Antrim then Caleb Grandfather, on his father side, would not be Aden Antrim. Unless she Did Not get married then only one side of her family would be Aden. It would be nice to follow the line of Caleb's Father.

I am assuming that the mother, Hannah Antrim, is the daughter of Aden but I have no idea.

Carl,
In the collection of papers, (Harriet S. Antrim) there are what I can only describe as proof sheets (with no sources)of descendancy, possibly for new edition, amoung which I have Thomas and Prudence with a total of twelve children. Clyde's information conforms, closely, to what I have with just one more child and that is a Thomas b. 12 Feb. 1750, presumed to die young because of Thomas b. 1763. I'm sure I've seen correspondence concerning this family and as soon as I find it I'll be in touch.

okay, where do we start? First and foremost remember that what I have is coorespondance over 100 years old submitted by a relation of yours (probably)to a very serious genealogist doing a family history book. So, on one hand the information is undocumented but by its' nature, fairly accurate. The reason I believe this to be true is that no one wanted to look foolish submitting false information because the purpose, originally, for the research was an inheritance in Ireland that turned out to be bogus. People wanted a piece of the pie and they weren't going to mess that up if they couldn't back up their genealogy.

Harriet Stockton Antrim did a remarkable job, considering she wasn't a trained genealogist, to verify information for the book by travelling extensively, in and out of churches, universities, libraries and court houses. Her notes and coorespondance prove out the extent to which she cared to do a proper job. My goal is to present a forum wherein I can share the hand written contributions our grandparents or great-grandparents to save the history of the name Antrim...

What I hope to do this weekend is have a friend scan the pages I have and I'll send them in an e-mail. The information may or may not be new to you, but I'm sure this was written by relatives. I've been studying them more and think I have an idea of how the names may tie in.

Mrs. Jane (5th Cooper child) Hasler prepared many sheets on the descendants of the children of Thomas and Prudence (Hancock) Antrim. Most of these sheets concern your line, but one concerns the Thomas Scattergood marriage to Martha Antrim. Mrs. Jane (Cooper) Hasler gave contact information seperately for eaxch line. For the Scattergood line, the contact person was Ms. Olivia K. Everly. There is a tie-in: Everly/Scattergood...

The Cooper pages list the nine children of John and Ann Cooper and their spouses. For some of them, there is another generation of information. Example: Silas Hall and Abigail Cooper, their children and then grandchildren. As previously stated, Jane Cooper married John Frederick Hasler, and they had two girls. 1) Anna married Wm. Henry Lightstone. 2) Mary (no marriage listed)

For yor line, children of Nelson and Nancy are:
1) Newton A. Cooper m. Igora Ja**ell
2) Robert Cooper m. Matilda Tappen
3) Ma*** (can't read the writing)
4) Louisa Cooper m. Robert Steele
5) Margaret Cooper m. Fred M*** (not sure)
6)Ellis Cooper m. Ada Reiff
***all spellings subject to scrutiny*** Please give me the correct spellings that you may have

Its interesting that no dates are given for this line wheras, the others all have dates for birth, marriage and/or death.

There maybe more info. to be gleed from this collection. However, taken from Ancestry.com Census collection, I found 1850: John W. Cooper w/ Cynthia and children and evidently mother-in-law, Phebe Taylor, brother-in-law, David Taylor. The relationships are just guesses. 1860: no Taylors with John and Cynthia. 1870: Phebe Taylor back living with them. Your line, 1880 Nelson Cooper w/ family and 3 houses away, son Robert, Matilda and children. I also found other children of John and Ann that ended up in Missouri in 1880 and then 1900-20. Have you tried finding John Cooper prior to 1850, in the census?

Any questions, just ask, I'm learning too...

Stuart

Hi Stuart, this is what I think I know about the Antirm/Ewing/cooper family. Prudence Antirm Ewing's daughter
Ann Ewing Married Rev. John Cooper, After they were married
they moved to Butler Co. Ohio...it looks like a group of people went to Ohio, Godfrey Antrim, Aden Antrim, and
Prudence Ewing Atrim...I don't know if they all went at the same time...John and Ann Ewing Cooper had at least six kids
John Wesley, William, Nelson B, Abigail, Jane, Isaac... Dr.Nelson B Cooper was my 3rdG Grandfather, he married Nancy Taylor...John Wesley Cooper married a Cynthia Taylor, however I don't know if they are sisters...My Great Grandmother said
Nancy was, Nancy Antwerp, from Antwerp Ireland, I wondered if she meant (Antrim) because there is no Antwerp Ireland and Nancy Taylor Cooper is from Ohio not Ireland...
I'm confused ...anyway I wonder if Nancy Taylor Cooper is also a Amtrim decedent somehow...as for Jane Hasler and Miss Olivia K.Everly, I don't know how they fit in...sorry...Nelson B Cooper moved to Indiana, He and Nancy had Seven Kids...
I have an Thomas (Antram) Antrim and Prudence Hancock as part of my linage. This Thomas (Antram) Antrim is my GGGGGGrandfather. The information I have indicates that they had a daughter, Prudence (Antram) Antrim, b Aug 1768, d. 28 Mar 1853, married 1789 to an Edward Ewing.

This information came from "Encyclopedia of American Quakers Genealogy" by William Wade Hinshaw, vol. II. On page 165 list Thomas & Prudence (Antrum) Antrim and 4 children, Sarah b, 3/16/1749, Godfrey b. 2/22/1753, Alice b. 2/22/1757 (I have an Aden born 2/22/1757) and a William b. 4/1/1759.

I would appreciate any information that you may have concerning the family of Thomas and Prudence (Antrum) Antrim family and the source.

Carl Antrim

Some good news and not...
There is a group of seven pages of descendants of Ann Ewing and John Cooper. So my memory hasn't completely failed me. Unfortunately there is nothing concerning John's parents.

An interesting aside is that the pages are pen and ink on plain unlined paper. At the top in a different hand and ink is written "mailed from Oxford, Ohio Dec.28, 1898" On one of the pages, it ends that generation saying "for further information contact Mrs. Nelson B. Cooper, Liberty Ind." (Interesting for me because an ancestor of mine laid out the plot plan for N. Liberty, Ind. I need to research this more thuroughly.)

It would be a big help if you can tell me the connections w/Jane Hasler and Miss Olivia K. Everly. I'm not sure as to who wrote the sheets and who researched the information. If you're interested, the research has just begun. Back in Miss Antrim's day research was less rigid than todays' standards. Her notes are written on the front and back of 'anything' all in pen and ink...
Thats how I can tell the different decades that information came from. Information was collected by her nephew well into the 1950's.

I have five binders of top-loader sheets w/letters and notes and have just begun to get a handle on what I have at hand.

Stuart
