Hi,

I am despratly trying to trace the Argyle side of my family, my fathers name is Pater Argyle, born in dorset. He does not speak to his family any more, but knows of some Argyles that moved to Africa, they were big news back in the 60-70's as they were featured in the Bournemouth Echo, haven't been able to trace anthing since! Any help would be fab!

If anyone looking for a Jefferson Argyle born about 1856, where do not know. But I just entered him in the findagrave.com Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, Greene, MO. He died in the County Farm, or Transient Camp there in 1939. There was not any information on his death cert. that told much. His parents listed as Unknown, and the age shown about 83, so the year of birth I came up with is a doing the math.

There are many spellings of the surname Argile on Birth Certificates even within the same family, due to wide spread illiteracy during the 1700-1800.
I have uncovered the following: Argyle, Argyll,Argyl, Argile,Argil. Also Orgil and Hargil derive from the Argyle/Argyll Surname.

Looking for family of Thomas Argyle born in his own words(near Derby, Derbyshire, England 1812). Son of Samuel Argyle and mother Mary Burrows. There was 1 daughter who married a cousin Argyle. Having almost come to a standstill with my paternal side of the family ( got back to 1700), I am now keen to start out on the road with my maternal side. The Argyle family were from a farming family in Willaston, moved to Rock Ferry, Birkenhead. They were a large family. One brother was killed in action in First World Watr......my mother is Bernice Ann, known to many as Ann but to her family as Bunty. She is 84.

Any help or info from any part of this very large name group will be welcome.

I'm a Leicestershire born Argyle and know quite a bit about us. Many Argyles who went to USA were strictly speaking ORGILLs, this family originated from around Church Gresley in Derbyshire and some moved to Market Bosworth in Leics. My family has it's earliest known origins around the Hinckley area of Leics. and we are pretty widespread now, Aus., NZ, S. Africa. The Argyles as a whole are concentrated in the East Midland counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire and we may be all related if we get back far enough. My grandfather's name was Samuel Argyle, and I know virtually nothing about him except that he was born on Bluff Point on Keuka Lake. My father was born in 1908, so you can guess my grandfather's birth date accordingly.

I know of one other way of spelling it..Argile..I know that alot of the old Scottish way's was to spell it like this.Maybe you should look up Scottish history to further your inquiry.Hope to help!Happy holiday's:)

My kids ada and I were together for 6 yrs and We always wanted to find his sister he never knew that his dad had with a previous wife.I dont know the wife name but His father is Bert Lamond Argyle from Utah but Lived in California I beleive at the time he was married and had the other 2 girls.Ones name is Buffy and we dont know the others.This would have been in 1970 or something around there.My ex is now 26 yrs old.His name is Robert Shane Argyle.We have 3 beautiful kids together that would like to know all of their family.We dont think his dad has ever seen them again after getting married to his mother.Berts mother lived in Sacremento California before she passed in 97'.Any help would be great thank you..MarineTrueLove@aol.com

Looking for information on anyone with the surname of ARGYLE born in Tennessee. So far, I know of (1) Elizabeth ARGYLE, born abt 1823,(2) James ARGYLE, born abt 1846 and (3) Alfred Argyle, born abt 1870. Where in TN were they born. Who were their parents?

Also looking for information for ARGYLES who lived in TN, like Ann ARGYLE Richardson Fravel who was born in Derby, England and lived in Nashville from 1869-1875.
