Obituary: Dolores V. Arias

Dolores V. Arias, 82-year-old resident of Vallejo, Calif., passed away on March 22, 2011, at her home after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones at time of passing.

She was born in Tucumcari, N.M., the oldest of eight brothers and sisters.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jose Arias of Vallejo; and great-grandson, Aiden Losado of American Canyon; in addition to her sisters, Pauline and Rose of Vallejo; and brothers, Lorenzo of Vallejo and Bernard of New Mexico.

Dolores worked hard all of her life starting at the age of eight cleaning houses, and worked well into her 70s as a caregiver for many of Vallejo's elderly citizens, "older people" she would often say.

Mrs. Arias had an incredible love of life. There wasn't a stray dog that she found that she didn't find a home for, a Reno trip she didn't enjoy, a buffet that wasn't delicious, or a grandchild and great-grandchild's kiss she didn't get "energy" from.

Dolores leaves to honor her memory, her sons, Adon Salazar and Lou (Doris) Arias; daughter, Teresa (Michael) Losado; grandchildren, Rick Arias, Randi Arias-Losado, Yvette Arias, Jayson Losado, Kevin Arias, Stacey Salazar, Christina Potter and Steven Salazar; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Manual of Los Angeles; sisters, Clara of Colorado and Mary of New Mexico; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in honor of Dolores may be made to Friends of Animals, Kaiser Hospice or the American Cancer Society .

We would also like to thank Chris Vanderwerk, RN, and Bathsheba (Sheba-lee), CNA, from Kaiser Hospice for their love and compassion.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo. Inurnment will follow.

Please sign the online guestbook at www.times heraldonline.com.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo, (707) 552-6696.

Published in TimesHeraldOnline on March 25, 2011
obit : Alfonso ARIAS, 1927 CA - 2011 CA

not related

ALFONSO ARIAS

ALFONSO ARIAS Musical Director of the Ramona Pageant, passed away on June 27, 2011, following a brief illness. He had been a member of the Arias Troubadours since 1939. The famous group, founded by Alfonso's father, Jose Arias, has provided the musical background for the Ramona Pageant since 1924. The Troubadours performed for several presidents, governors, dignitaries and celebrities, including Governor and later Supreme Court Justice, Earl Warren. They also entertained at the Wrigley Estate on Catalina Island as well as performed for many of Hollywood's most famous stars. Most notably, they were the featured musicians at the wedding reception of movie actress Shirley Temple. Alfonso was best known for mastery of his cherished violin, as well as his warm personality and humor. He and his wife of 40 years, Marion Alessio Arias, resided at their beloved ranch in Lake Mathews, California. Alfonso and Marion performed for many years at the Mission Inn Presidential Lounge and Dining Room in Riverside. They played for many social events and private parties in the Inland Empire. They also christened the opening of all new Stater Bros. Supermarkets. He was a consummate professional who never missed a job or performance. It is only fitting that his last performance was at the Ramona Pageant this past May. Alfonso Arias was born December 9, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, and is survived by his wife Marion; son Alfonso Jr.; sister, Dolores Arias; sister, Maria Cruz and brother-in-law, Ben Cruz; as well as grandchildren, Rachel, John, Alfonso III; 6 great grandchildren; and many, many friends. Services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 3774 Jackson Street, Riverside, California, as follows: Viewing at 11:00 A.M.; Funeral Mass at 11:30 A.M. He will be buried with full Military Honors at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, California, at 1:30 P.M. Friday, July 8, 2011.
Published in San Bernardino Sun on July 7, 2011

Hello, I don't know much, but my grandmother was Marian Arias-Lopez. She was born in Madrid, but she and her father (and step-mother?) moved to Puerto Rico in the late 1920's, early 1930's. I believe her father's name was Jose, her mother I think was Maria or Marian, but I'm not sure, but died in childbirth. She said both her grandfathers were named Manuel and that one was an ambassador of some sort. I believe they also held the title Marques.
My grandmother came to the states before WWII and I believe she had 3 half brothers, some of which fought in the war.
Does this sound familiar?

Just a few questions. My names. Robert Anthony Arias. My i don't remember my grandfather's first name. My father is Steven S. Arias. Mother Rose helg. Grandmother. Clara Davis (she divorced and remarried). I know my dad has plenty of brothers and sisters, not all of whom i know their names. Dawn Arias, Andrew Arias, and more. My dad is from California. My grandfather Arias used to be in the navy. Apparently he has kids and he had plenty of families all over from when he would stop into port. Which is why my grandmother divorced him when she found out.

My dad's almost 50. My grandpa Arias was in the navy atleast 50 years ago. or around that time.

That's the only info i can remember at the moment. if you find anything message me. at : atreyu_rob2021@hotmail.com

Hi Diane,

Our local newspaper, the Ventura County Star, ran a lengthy obituary on April 21, 2010, for Esther Arias Ramirez, born April 23, 1920, in San Bernardino, CA, to Vicente and Esperanza (Martinez) Arias. Esther died April 8, 2010, and was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles Ramirez, and her siblings Eddie, Stella, Alfonso, and Vicente Arias. Esther and Charles were married July 2, 1944, at Our Lady of Help Catholic Church in Los Angeles. Two photos and a full newspaper column of additional information and history are included in the obit.

Any connection???

I think the obit can be accessed online at obits.VenturaCountyStar.com. If you aren't able to find it, and you think it is relevant, I would be happy to mail you a copy.

Thank you for the excellent research you are doing and for making it available to others of us who have a connection to the same lines. It is so helpful and is much appreciated.

Marilyn Carpenter

I am trying to find out more about my family on the Arias side. Any help would be appreciated. What I do Know is that my Great Grandfather Vincente Espinoza Arias was born in Penjamo, Mexico in 1907. I do not know his mothers name only that her maiden name was Espinoza. I'm not sure about siblings but was told that he may have had 3. I know one sister was named Belen Arias. I'm not too sure when he crossed over but he did marry Anna Maria Briseno in Little Rock Arkansas, Then they both moved to Salina Kansas. Their final settlement was in California.

Hello my name is Erin Arias. I was born and raised in San Francisco CA. I'm looking for my father (Paul Arias) ancestors. What I have so far is his father's name (Henry A.Arias) born Oct.2, 1920 in Fort Lupton, CO. His parents were (Paulino J. Arias) born June.22, 1890 in Penjamo, Mexico. This mother was (Jenoeva S.Sandoval)born Dec.6 1886 in Anton Chico, New Mexico. She was married before to (Jose.F Sandoval) which we think was also born in New Mexico. They had 6 kids and then divorced. There names were Amada, Jacobo,Monica, Manuel, Benita and Cecil. All born in Colordo. Jenoeva then married Paulino and had Eva, Henry, and Bertha. Also all born in Colorado. I've been in contact with some of the children and grand children but they have no information about the ancestry of our family. If anyone has any information about Arias or Sandovals please feel free to contact me...thanks!

Hi,
I have a similar tale. My mom's father was MANUEL LAUREANO and the story I was told was he changed his name to GARCIA because the "gringos" couldn't pronounce his name correctly.

I have NO DOUBT about that ... I've met some pretty stupid Euro-whites who have a hard time pronouncing SMITH.

Unfortunately, everyone knowledgable about MANUEL is deceased and I'm not sure of the spelling. Laur"I"ano pops up more than Laur"E"ano.

Can you lend some 'correct spelling' assistance?
Thanks.

Hello,

My grandfather is also Jose ARIAS, but he isn't from Lugo. He was born in Larouco, a village in the province of Ourense.

He came to cuba with his brother and they stayed in Cuba a couple of years. His brother married there and had children.

After a while, they returned back in Spain. I don't know what happened to the family I have in Cuba.
