The first of the Armitage's was "old William" of Newton Mills.
Do you happen to know anything about this person. All I can find out is that he came to Ontario pre 1800's. My Armitages (it was my maiden name) are mostly Methodist, moving mostly to Quyon, Quebec. I think they may have started out in England, coming to Ireland, and then to Canada.
It is like this "William" was just dropped on the earth. Hope you can help.
Sharon

I'm looking to get in touch with anyone who is a descendant of William and Ann Armitage (nee Williams) and any of their children...Sarah, Anne Elizabeth (who married Zechariah Garbutt), Thomas, Elizabeth, Alice Emma (who married George Winfird Hunter), George William Richard Armitage (who married Euphemia Henry and Norah Carroll), Catherine Thelia (who married Robert Henry) and Cornelius Henry (who married Bridget Mary Clara O'Brien). William and Ann arrived in Melbourne on June 15 1856. Many of their descendants are having a reunion in April and would love to find more people who would like to join the family and share stories and meet newly found cousins

Thanks Eileen, Thomas emigrated from England in 1883. The passenger list shows Port of arrival as Halifax, Nova Scotia and Portland Maine. However, under the last column (Port at which Passengers have contracted to Land) 'Lindsay Ont' has been written against his name. I guess that was probably where he was heading. What happened to him next? I will have look at the Armitage family you mention but think there's not likely to be a connection.

Not sure whether you're trying to work forwards or backwards from Thomas. I am unable to find anything concrete on him, but did not a large Armitage family in Victoria County (where Lindsay is located) in the 1891 Canadian Census headed up by Samuel & Susan. Samuel is 46 in this census, but born in Ontario.

Caleb Armitage (1777-1847) & Catherine McCabe (1771-1846)

Numerous entries on http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com state that the Caleb Armitage who is listed as the son of Caleb and Mary (Striker) Armitage married Catherine McCabe in 1798 and (2) Jane Simpson in 1805 and he (Caleb) died in 1828 in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.

These conclusions are contraindicated by the following facts: (1) The brother of Catherine McCabe, Richard Butler McCabe (of Indiana County, PA) wrote in 1853, the following: "My sister Catherine Armitage is dead. Her son John owned or did not long since, a good farm, near Portsmouth, Ohio. Her husband Caleb Armitage is also dead".

(2) The Caleb Armitage and Catherine McCabe of the 1 October 1798 marriage in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania moved, by 1814, to Scioto County, Ohio, with a large number of records found of that family in that county. About 1839, the couple (with son John, but not the daughter, Martha, who married Elijah Musgrove in 1822) migrated to Delaware County, Indiana (near Muncie) where Caleb died 13 March 1847 and Catherine died 30 October 1846; both buried in the Tomlinson Cemetery, Delaware County, Indiana. Their son John had three children, including David R. Armitage, M.D., a highly respected physician in that county.

My hypothesis for the parents of this Caleb Armitage (married Catherine McCabe) are Jacob (probable brother of the above-mentioned Caleb Armitage, wife Mary Striker) and Rebecca Armitage. In Jacob's estate settlement (Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, Orphans Court Records, dated February 1797), is the following: “Petition of Rebecca Armitage, mother of Caleb Armitage, aged 12 years, minor son of said decendant [sic] requesting a guardian be appointed. Whereupon the Court appointed Andrew Henderson, Esq.” The age of twelve in 1791 calculates to a birth about 1779, not far from the Delaware County, Indiana, cemetery record of the birth of Caleb Armitage (wife Catherine McCabe) in 1777.

Thank you for contacting me. The Benjamin Armitage I am looking for was my GG grandfather. His daughter,Emily Mary Ann Armitage b1846 married my G Grandfather,William La Riviere, in 1874, in London. They had 3 children, Emilie Eugenie b 1871, died in infancy, Emiline Desiree b1873 died aged 16, and then my GGrandfather William Leon b1874 and d 1947. Most of this info came from their marriage certificate so I don't know Ben's wife's name.

Regards, Sue Bradley.

My ancestors were from Romania. Sara armatraj was born there in 1875. She married a Paul Rosenfeld in Romania and they went to the states in1898. Their DNA shows they were kalash from the mountains of Pakistan. I have this DNA, does anyone have the DNA putting them in the mountains of Pakistan. This same dna is found in ashkinazi Jews from the same area. Does anyone in the Rosenfeld family or armatraj family know they are kalash. Lewispaiute8@aol.com

This is the reply I have received from the lady in Italy, so it would seem not to be the Lawrence that you speak about.

Brenda.

'His name was L.A. Armitage on the Air Letters addressed to him and from the letters themselves I learned his name was "Lawrence" - watch the spelling, not "Laurence", though he was also called Laurie. His second name - I have no idea about. But he was a land soldier, a Rifleman of the London Irish Rifles, not an airman. So, this correspondant has a different Armitage'.

Would you know of an Alexander Armitage? From, the Lancs, or huddersfield area. Is that a name you have details on?

If it is I shall explain. Its regarding my grandmother.

DO you know of or have you heard of an Alexander Armitage. Born between 1908 to 1915 . From the Lancashire area. My Grandmother is desperate to find out who her real father was and we just cant seem to find any information on him. We beleive he had something to do with the airforce and was stationed to the middlesex area. If you can help or have any information it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Emma
