To anyone:

I have a "history" and some pictures about the family of Baxter and Susie Arms and children. The history is a photocopy of a story that someone wrote, there are 3 photocopied pictures with names, and one "original" picture with names on the back. These are free to anyone who thinks they may belong to their family line. I found them when going through paper work at the auction hall I work for.

Some names include:
Archibald Arms
Sophia Martin (wife of Archibald)
Evan and Polly Arms (siblings of Archibald)
Robert and Lavine (Sims) Martin (parents of Sophia)
Baxter and Susie Arms (copied pic)
Leland, Ann, Lora, Ora, Willie Arms (copied pic)
William and Rachel Watson (original pic)
** children of this couple also in pic, Van, Sam, Dorrie
or Davie, Eddie (also written on the back is "grandma
Roach's brother")

Arms genealogy (England)

My great great great grandparents with their children left from London England for the Americas in 1847. The parents' names were:

William J. Martin (6/14/1803-9/24/1887) and his wife
Sarah Arms (8/8/1807-7/16/1864)

(Note they went from Quebec City to Vermont, to the Chicago area where they are buried.)

His naturalization papers say he was from Holbeach, Lincolnshire England.

I'm not too familiar with European genealogy research. I think I found Sarah's baptism records from England. There was one two days later than her birth date. The info was:

father's name: John Arms
mother's name: Mary Harwood

baptism/christening date & Place:
10 Aug 1807
Walpole-St. Andrew, Norfolk, England

That isn't far from Holbeach, Lincolnshire. I think I may be on to something. Anyway was just wondering how to go about finding more info and validating if this is my ancestor.

I ound that William Henry Arms was born in May 24 1844 Freeport, Illinois & he married elizabeth & had a son Arms, Charles D. born 1885 Winona, Minnesota. Barb, I think the best route would be looking for an obit for her male relatives. I have a marriage record for Matthew and Dora Arms (1882 Buffalo Co. Wis.) listing the witnesses as Lorenzo Arms Jr. and Lorenzo Arms Sr. Likely one of these was her brother, maybe even her father.

I am looking for Magdaleana Arms. I know she married Martin Joos and they had at least one daughter Katy who later married Hans tuffli, also born in Switz. They married in WI, but lived and raised family in ND and Oregon for awhile.

You really need to give more information than just their names. What country were they born in or live in would be a good start. If you know any birth, marriage,or death dates you should post them as well. What about parents, children, or any other known immediate family names? If they immigrated from where did they originate and where did they settle? Without any other information it's pretty much impossible to find what you're asking for.

From Switzerland to WI and ND area of USA

Tuffli(Hans) and his two brothers Charles and Bartholmew immigrated to Us settling in ND. One of the brothers returned to Switzerland.
Hans Tuffli wound up marrying Katy Joos born in WI, but her parents Martin Joos and wife were born in Switzerland.
Hans and Katy would become my uncle's parents.
I think Martin Joos's wifes name was Magdalean Arms(or it was Hans Tuffli's mothers name).

I'd like to know who her parents/sibblings were, where and when born and where/when died. If sibblings-who they married etc, and any immigration's.

Ted Tuffli (my uncle was born in ND) somehow found his way to Chicago where in 1930 or so was working as a photographer, but mid 1940's or so he was in MA. Married my mothers next oldest sister Helen in 1947 in Salem MA.
No children. Both are now deceased Ted in Oct 1988, Helen in Jan 1992.

I have been unable to trace my Great Grandfather's roots to his birthplace in TN. I have been told he served in the Spanish American War as a bugler(he played a musical instrument. He married Alta R. Fletcher in Collin County, TX. He died in TX of some type of fever at the age of 29. - thank you!

Looking for information on James F. Arms born in NY on 8/22/1841, died in Marion County, Oregon on 5/31/1909, lived most of his life in Loyal County, Wisconsin. Married Ellen Churchill in 1868.

I'm trying to find James F.'s parents. According to his death certificate, his father was named Henry and was born in Massachusetts. According to census records, though, his father was born in New York. I can't find any records for a Henry Arms born in New York or Massachusetts who has a child names James. Perhaps Henry was a nickname for something else? According to census records his mother was also born in New York. No clue about her name or whether he had siblings.

We're related I think. Clarence Arms of Saddlersville and Adams TN was my grandfather. His father's last name was Gladwell. He was not married to Clarence's mother as I understand it though. Clarence and siblings used their mother's last name, Arms. I carry that surname as well.

Daniel - that makes us related. My grandfather was the Clarence Arms from Saddlersville (and Adams TN).

My name is Robert D. Arms. My father was Robert M. Arms and my grandfather was Clarence Arms from Saddlersville (and Adams) TN, who died in about 1967 or so. Clarence was brother to Willard etc, who I remember my father talking about, as well as Bedford. My grandfather Clarence had 4 or 5 children, mostly girls, but my father, Robert M. was the youngest child and the only son of Clarence. Dad's siblings included Edith from St. Louis MO and Margaret (Bland) from Allensville KY. There were at least 2 other siblings as well. Clarence's first wife died soon after my dad was born, and Clarence remarried, to Clara, who had some kids of her own.

It is my understanding that Clarence's parents were not married but that it was a common law arrangement. Clarence and siblings used the last name of their mother, which was Arms. Their father was last name Gladwell.

My dad went into the Army and ended up moving to New Jersey where he married my mom, Marie. Dad (Robert M. Arms) passed in Jan 2000, but my mom as well as myself still live here in NJ.

Clarence's daughter Edith had 3 kids; one has since died but a son and daughter still live in the St Louis area. Clarence's daughter Maragaret had 3 children, Kenneth, Wayne, and Debbie. Wayne dies some years ago, but Kenneth and Debbie still live in KY. Both are grandparents now.

There was a Robert Edward Arms who was born in Columbus, North Carolina in, I believe, 1893. At the time of his death, which I believe was 1959, he lived in Belmont, Gaston County, NC. However, he was married to June Flowers and had four sons and one daughter.

I think you probably know more than I do. I know that Samuel was born approximate 1820 in Landiswil, Switzerland. His parents were also born in Switzerland. Kate was born in Ohio in approximately 1836. Have you checked for her in Tennessee?

No I have not really taken the time to check things out as far as George goes.

How much do you know about Samuel and Kate?
I know that Samuel came to the US in 1834 with another Samuel, possibly his father. The last name looks like it was ARMS. I do not know where he was born. Was he Swiss or German? Samuel's first wife died and he then married Kate. Possible second marriage for Kate as well. She had at least a daughter when she married Samuel. Together Samuel and Kate had Thomas and another son named George - not sure what ever happened to George. Do you know? Samuel died in 1890, he was living in the county infirmary. Not sure where Kate was in 1890, but later found her and her daughter in Arkansas. Arkansas is where Kate died and is buried.

I do believe that we are researching the same family line. The woman in Indiana would have been one of my aunts. Edward Arm(s) is my grandfather. my mother, Kathleen, was his daughter.

I used the 1880 Federal Census and matched it to the information I had already gotten.

I am a grand daughter of George Arms whose father was Thomas and Nancy (Gothard)Arm. I haven't been doing much genealogy lately, but I may be able to provide some information on Thomas' mother, Kate if were are searching the same family. A year or two ago I was in contact with a woman who had been helping a daughter of an Edward Arm. Daughter lived in Indiana and Edward in Florida? Any relation?
