Linda, I am Mervin Aaro's daughter, Lorrie. Just wanted to get Dad's name spelled correctly. I'm trying to figure out how you fit in - I remember a Linda from childhood, but not much about you. I actually got online to look up Grandpa Aaro's records.

Take care,
Lorrie

I'm trying to delve into the history of Aro, but I'm stuck at my great grandparents. On my grandfather's birth certificate it says Unknown as the father and Margaret as the mother.

I'm pretty sure I found the right Margaret, but it's hard to say for sure not knowing her maiden name. I think his father's name was Henry or Harry, born on or around 1878.

Anyone else hit a roadblock at Harry or Henry Aro?

Hi,
I am glad you found a connection. That always makes me excited. I am away from home right now but will try to pull some information together for you and send it later. I know that Daisy Hole was my Great Grandmother's (Ada) sister. Clouse is either the father of or brother of my uncle(s) by marriage. My Aunt Virginia Stever first married Wallace Arro, divorced him and then married his brother Mervyn. I have three cousins from Wallace and Virginia and two cousins from Mervyn and Virginia - it is a complicated family! All of these cousins live in the Puget Sound area of Washington, as do many of the Hole family members. I could tell you more about Daisy but not a lot about Clouse. I will ask my mom if she can fill in any gaps. I will contact you later.
Peace,
Linda

Hello Linda,

This is the connection I'm looking for! Clouse and Daisy must be my grandmother's grandparents. She said her grandfather immigrated to Canada first from Norway. My grandmother, Bonnie Deputy (now Ides) was born and raised in Blyn, Washington. Her mother, Bertha, is alive and living in Bremerton. My grandma, Bonnie, is married to my grandpa Julius, who is Makah Indian. They live in Neah Bay, WA. My grandmother also has siblings who live around the Suquamish/Kitsap county area still. Thank you, its a part of my family I don't know a lot about!
My aunt married into the Aaro family in Kitsap County (Holly). Her husbands' parents were Clouse and Daisy (Hole) Aaro. According to records Clouse Aaro was born in Canada and migrated to the US. His parents were from Norway. I know many of my family moved around between Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson, Mason and King counties. Could be your Mr. Aro (Aaro) once lived in the Blynn area. Daisy was my Great Grandmother's sister Ada Hole Wyatt). G-Grandma Ada moved from Holly to Blynn. Maybe there is a connection.
I also noted that most folks who spelled their name Aro were from Finland and those who spelled it Aaro were from Norway. Interesting.

Maureen and Sam later divorced and he moved to Colorado Springs, dying in 1971. I just googled his name and this posting came up..... could this be the same man as your Dad? My Dad (Maureen's younger brother Michael Albert) and I are writing a book and starting to put all the pieces together. Would love to connect if they is some relation.
Hello, yes I've seen your posts. If both sides of your ancestry are from the Phillipines than it's quite possibly that both the Nordic name Aro and the Phillipino name Aro came about independently. I have no idea how else to help to that affect other than that I've noticed that some words exist in other languages...they may not mean the same things but it's pretty interesting. This might be the case here. What do you think? Was your father (it was your father?) Phillipino or was he of European or American descent?

Hallo,

As you can see in my name, I bear also the name ARO. I was stumbling through the net and landed here, saw your request and decided to reply. I really dont Know if we are related, but I answered your call bcos, WHO KNOWS !! maybe somewhere along the line.
About me,
I originated from the Aro`s Royal family of Lagos State in Nigeria. The Family is BIG, consisting of 3 Chieftaincy families, namely the Aro`s of Lagos, Ojora`s of Lagos and the Odofin`s of Lagos. All belonging to his royal Highness, Oba Oyekan(King) of Lagos`s Cabinet of Chiefs. My Family comes from Ijora Oloye part of Lagos.

Now, to our Forefathers, we were told as kids, they were descendants of Slaves brought back to Africa in the early 19 hundreds. To be eaxact, brought to Saroland ( meaning Siera Leon, Nehbouring country NOW to Nigeria )
They eventually over the yrs. migrated to start Lagos in Nigeria, probably bcos it was the next nearest free and open piece of Land then. Only the See seperated the two places we were told.

So, I think if we we descendants of these so called repariated slaves from United States, surely we The Aro`s of Today MUST have lots and lots of related ONE`S still out there somewhere. Maybe this will be a small step towards lots of UNIFICATIONS.

I`ll be glad if I`ve been of help in this way, but still Happy to know you even if this does not help you.

feel free to contact, if necessary for more research work needs to be done or Questions to be answered. I will be glad to introduce you to more elderly Family members who KNOW definitely MORE than me, I am just over 40yrs. they will surely answer your Questions.

Best greetings from Germany ( I live here now since almost 14 yrs. but do go HOME, Nigeria regularly, even as I have to apply for VISA everytime bcos, I am now GERMAN )

Best Wishes,
Samuel Aro ( member in FACEBOOK.Com. you can check it up)
Nurnberg, Bayern, Germany
I live in Negaunee, MI, which is in the U.P. near Lake Superior. The Aro family of my father is from the Houghton, MI area, specifically South Range, which is in the Keweenaw Peninsula. My grandfather, Oscar Aro, was a copper miner. My grandmother's maiden name was Jarvi. Most of our family is in the mid-west, as nearly all of my father's siblings (all 9 of them) moved to the Detroit area in the 30's and 40's to work for the auto industry as the mine's were closing down.

Aro from Norway

I've been told that the surname Aro from my paternal grandmother's side of the family came from Norway. I see that the majority of people on the forum have ancestry out of Finland or Sweden. My mother actually went through all of the information and found our ancestors already...I'm a little hazy with the details. My grandmother's grandparents immigrated to Canada first, then to America and she says they were Norwegian...and I seem to remember the name Claude Aro. Records and documentation has established that they were indeed Norwegian. Somehow, my grandmother's grandfather (or some such person) made their way to the Blynn, Washington area. If any of this rings familiar for anyhow it would be interesting to see.

I have an original postcard photograph of “Dorothy Mae Nickerson”, taken 18 Apr 1912”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. She looks to be six months old and is a cute baby.

I found Dorothy M. Nickerson in the 1920 census of St. Louis Co., MN, dau. of John M. and Martha E. Nickerson. By 1930 census, family had moved to Greenway (Itasca Co.) MN. MN marriage records show she married Jacob W. Aro, and SSDI shows Dorothy M. Aro died in 2004 with last SS check to Minneapolis

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Dorothy Mae Nickerson Aro.

You have to track the family from Sweden and then back to Finland . I don't have access to Swedish records but you can post on the Sweden boards. Once you get names, dates then check Hiski in Finland. I think these may be yours.
Hiski records (parish) usually only go up to about mid 1850 or so.
Here is some across the boarder in Finland
Ylitornio - Övertorneå - christened

Father's last name: ARO => Aro
Born Christened Village Farm Father Mother Child

30.3.1858 31.3.1858 Kainuunk. f. 240 Bd.s.
Joel,
Thanks for the prompt reply. Was there a Waldemar Aro in your family? I don't know where Aunt Hilda 's husband was from. I just assumed it was Finland (what part I don't know), and it looks like Pajala is less than 10 miles from the border. I am hoping any children of theirs, if still alive, can help fill in part of my family tree.
Thanks for your time.
John Pehkonen

I am searching for relatives of my husband's great aunt Hilda Aro. She was married to Waldemar Aro and may have had a daughter Helen. Hilda's maiden name was Husu. She also had sister Hilja and a brother Anton who was my husband's grandfather. Anton was born in Viborg in 1883, and married Mary Maki, originally from Kurikka, Finland, they made their home in Cloquet, MN and both lived there the remainder of their lives. Hilda and Waldemar may lived in or visited New York City in the mid 1920's.

What I know is, all Aro Family came from the Philippines and some of them migrated in U.S. in 1800 and 1900's, like the brother of my grandfather who live in Chicago and some of the Aro are in L.A. California. Most of them are from Taal Batangas and Liliw Laguna Philippines. The Aro family is a very small family that's what my father told me. That's all the information that i can share with you. I hope this will help you
