Hi. If you google Rossorry Graveyard Enniskillen you will come across a transcription of graves in this graveyard in Co Fermagh by a Seamas MacAnnaidh. There are about 20 Arthurs burials listed from 1801 to 1838.

I dont think its the same william to be honest as this one is buried in a local church in Fermanagh. He appears as married on the 1911 ireland census and I have tracked his family from then until now. I guess theres always the possibilty one of his forbears emmigrated though.

I have been researching a William Arthurs who immigrated before 1837-probably to New Brunswick as he is found there in 1837.
He subsequently moved to Maine with wife Ruth and daughter Mary Ann in 1840 and died in Maine in 1864 from injuries acquired in the Civil War. He was born between 1806-1810.
Have been unable to track him in Ireland.

Hi, I was hoping to compare notes on your family in Bellville. I noticed in the 1860 census that your family was living next to a William Arthurs and his family including a Samuel and Robert. My G-GF James from Co Monaghan Ireland had brothers Samuel and Robert. Most of my family settled a short distance away in Paterson. The distance and repetition of names has me believing there is a connection.
Jim Arthurs
Clifton, NJ

Arthurs in Canada

Does anyone’s Arthurs research tie in to the family of Thomas Arthurs and Jane (Ramsay?) Arthurs, who lived in and around the suburbs of Toronto, Canada in the second half of the 19th century? Among the children are William and Margaret (and others) - Margaret married a fascinating man named Joseph L Grady, originally of Nova Scotia, who changed his name to Thomas Grady, became a speech therapist in the Toronto area, and moved to Boston where he became Professor Grady, the Stammerer's Friend! There is also a woman married to a man named Ant (Anthony?) Clarke living with the family in 1861 who may also have been an Arthurs, or possibly a Ramsay. Arthurs is a name seen with great frequency in Canada during this time period - any information would be greatly appreciated.

We don't know where in Ireland he emigrated from, unfortunately. Antrim appears to have had the highest # of Arthurs during the early 1800's, with Fermanagh and Tyrone. I have not found any cluster patterns, no other family members, etc. We have also looked at naming patterns of their children and so far have not come to any conclusions. He married in St George, New Brunswick, so one might assume that he might have landed in either St John, NB or Passamaquoddy. So far no luck with passenger lists. He was probably born between 1804-1810, according to military and census records. We have had no problem tracking him from 1837 forward. Thank you for your interest. He is a tough one.

Hi. I'm Wayne Stretch and I'm married to ( Patricia ) Lynn Arthurs. You are an Arthurs married to a Stretch ? Interesting !
Lynn and I are planning to travel to the Avoca area just to see the town where her grandparents lived in Avoca before they came out to the Dauphin Manitoba area... in the early 1900's. Grandpa's name was Wyman Arthurs. His son, Lynn's dad, is Joe Arthurs( married to Mary Irma Riehl) and we'd be very pleased to hear or know anything about them (that part of the Arthurs clan) or the community of Avoca.
Warm regards,
Wayne and Lynn Stretch

Looking for connections with Paul. He was born in France and immigrated in 1860. I've found him in the 1920 and 1930 censuses living with his daughter Mary and her husband John Clayton in Savannah, Andrew, Missouri, Nodaway Township. Family lore has my Paul dying in Savannah in 1932, which leads me to believe this is the right man. I've found evidence of him being listed in Savannah in 1910, 2nd ward, but had trouble reading the copy. I'm looking to link him to John William Arthur. John and Mathilda Fuehrer had two sons Paul and Gerald. She died when they were small, her sisters took them in, and they spent time HIDING FROM CENSUS TAKERS. Sound familiar?
