You're welcome. The last name does originate from Spain, and if traced back it comes from Italy. The Spanish family traveled a great deal and so it's no surprise our last name is in other countries. We also have a family Crest.

http://www.houseofnames.com/fc.asp?sId=&s=asencio

And yes, the Asencio Family is a family with many talents and hold high power positions in the world.

Stacy

Hi Stacy,

Thanks for your response (which I just found now as it was placed in my 'spam' box).

That is interesting as people have always assumed that our family name is Italian.

Still, there's a lot of Asencio's in Mexico, and rumour has it that my Grandmother went to Mexico city on a trip and actually saw my Grandfather in a restaurant there (and promptly left).

One thing for sure, the Asencio's are educated and quite prolific as we can be found in many places.

Much Appreciated,

Anthony

Anthony,

Your grandfather might not have been Mexican. As I just found out, the original Asencio male came from Italy and moved to Spain. He was an Ambassador who traveled and had MANY wives and MANY women on the side. He had children with all of them. I believe his name was Diego, but I'm not really sure. I met one of my cousins when I worked part time at a gym and she filled me in on our history. I also know many of my family members, who I have NEVER met work with Immigration in the US and many are writers and involved in politics. I would guess that your grandfather really wasn't from Mexico. Good luck!

Stacy Asencio

I was in Mexico City a day or two May 29th, and cut out those pages, and have photocopies of them with me. I have driven around 3,000 miles in the last 9 days, thus little time for Intenet, and in the next month expect total to rise to 8,000 miles or more. Long story involving son's marriage and move across the States.

Anyway, I need an address for you to mail those suckers, and also we can communicate by e-mail how to convert phone listings into valid addresses -- if URL is still good.

It need not be your address, just so you can get it.

Send me a mail at brucemcgovern@earthlink.net and we can start the ball rolling. There WILL be a delay on my answering mail, but I think/hope I have those photocopies in my computer bag, apologies in advance if I screwed them up, have no time to check right now.
We hope to go to DF next week, I need to pick up my latest d/l from Texas, with all the computerization it takes six weeks to get your d/l and I won't be back in the States before the two month temporary expires.

Please do not get your hopes up too much. The chances of success are very small, I have looked for many people, and only succeeded in maybe half a dozen cases.

If there are many of them, I could try to photocopy and mail to you when I get back to States, but would need an address, doesn't have to be yours, just an address where you can get it.

In any case, remmeber old saying about not counting chickens before they hatch.
Greetings,
Well I just got some new info re my deceased grandfather from Mexico City: his name was Francisco Feliz Asencio. He was most likely born in the 1900's and died in the 60's or 70's. He was one of four brother's -one of whom was named Alfonso (not sure of spelling)- and part of a family that ran a large business of some sort. My grandmother said that they were 'White Mexicans', meaning of pure European Spanish descent I suppose.

I will post more info as it comes in. It's hard for me to explain how good it feels to be offered this help, so thanks for that!

Sincerely,
Anthony

That is precisely the first thing I look for. If there are indeed hundreds, I sort of throw my hands up and announce I can't do it. Sometimes there is a modest number, but as we have said, all information is useful in its own way. Not to check it out, I describe as gross neglect. It will be probably a week or two before I get to DF to look it up.

Thanks,
That is very kind. I am trying to get my grandmother to give me as much info as possible on the man she met from Mexico to assist my search as well. Searching the telephone directory might be very difficult. There must be hundreds of Asencio's in Mexico City.

In Gratitude,
Anthony

In this sort of nearly impossible task, one tries any and all sources. A negative, as strange as it sounds, is at this point as valuable as a positive response.

The first problem is not the almost certain unwillingness of Mexican families to discuss out-of-wedlock children, assuming that is what you mean, although that certainly is a great obstacle.

No, the biggest problem is the lack of any real reliable access to any sort of records which show people by name.

I will set a computer alarm, (SET) and when I go to Mexico City in a few weeks, will do the only thing I can: Look up the family name Asencio in the phone book and see how many there are.

Usually, this does not work. And, the number of years which have passed reduce the odds even further. However, I have several times found people who are still alive, by a variety of tactics.

Um, I might as well mention in most liasons, Mexican men do not give accurate information, though I am only assuming it was this way 60 years ago.
Hi,
I'm very new to this. I never knew my grandfather. He visited Jamaica over 60 years ago, where my father's mother lived. She had a child (my father) who never knew his father (Mr. Asencio of Mexico City). My grandmother refused (and still refuses) to talk about her ex-lover (my grandfather), so I have very little information to work with. I know he is deceased, but I would like to know if there is a way I can find out more about him, and my Mexican heritage. I live in Montreal, Canada. I imagine there must be many Asencio's in Mexico, so I am not sure how to proceed.

Sincerely,
Anthony
