Clarification of the 4 Ashby lines

Classification: Query
Surnames: Ashby, Berry
It is my understanding there are 4 Ashby lines, represented by Capt. Robert, Capt. Stephen, Daniel, and an obscure Ashby that migrated to Pa. of which little is known. Are these men all sons on Thomas Ashby that died abt 1752 in Frederick Co. Va.? If this is the case we all (Ashbys) had a common ancestor about 250 years ago.
The reason I ask is my Y-12 DNA matched up w/ a Berry that has a paper trail back to a Ruben Berry that was raised by Capt Stephen Ashby, son of said Thomas Ashby. Also, matched with a Robert J. Ashby of Ca. His family migrated from England to Canada to California. What about the SC Ashby's, are they out of the same Thomas Ashby?
I am currently being upgraded to Y 59. However, the DNA component appears to create more questions than answers. Just my humble opinion.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a Newbie and do not understand all I know about genealogy, DNA etc.
