You posted in 2000, so not sure if you'll see this. I have been tracing my Ashcraft roots. I have made it as far back as William A Ashcraft born about 1837 in KY. It seems I keep leading back to Nimrod as being his father. Seems Nimrod would have been born about 1813. William married Nancy Putt. Ring any bells?

I was going through the various messages and I saw yours. I also noticed that it had never been replied to which made me sad. I didn't find an email address so I am not even sure you will get this. But I did find your father and mother. The info you had was accurate. Sadly it looks like your mother passed away in 1994 having remarried in 1970 to John Anson. there is a possible Thomas E Ashcroft marriage 1969 in Wells, Somerset but i could tell you if it was the same person. It looks like there may be a brother born 1968 in Manchester. But again not got real verification (certs etc) Hope this helps

I am trying to find the parents of John Ashcraft (possibly John H. or John W.) who married Margaret Dutcher in 1862. Lyman Ashcraft has a son named John H. born around the same time and place. Does anyone have any information on this son so I can rule out or validate this possibility?
Ashcraft/Ashcroft/Weldon/Chandler

I am seeking the ancestors of my great grandfather George Lincoln Ashcraft(1892). Mother is Sarah Anna Weldon (1862)and a sister Martha E (1897)I cannot seem to locate their father. I've been told that his name is John Ashcraft but seen the family listed as Ashcroft as well. The year that I was told he passed was 1898, but cannot find them on any census or his death record. Anna appears on the 1900 census in Arkansas living with her father (Nathaniel Green Weldon) with the two kids and listed as a widow.

I believe he died in Arkansas, and was possibly born there as well. My 2nd great grandmother (Sarah Ann Weldon) is seen to go by Anna Ashcraft, however I cannot find the family on the census again until George L Ashcraft appears later alone- I cannot ever again locate Martha E or Anna.
On the 1910 census, George (Lincoln) Ashcraft is seen living with the family of Enoch and Martha Higgins in Le Flore Oklahoma. He appears again in the 1930 census in Missouri, married to Mary Ella Chandler and the name is spelled Ashcroft. It is my belief due to the birth date of the oldest son Edgar, and of Ella and the timeline - that his mother is not Ella Chandler (Ashcraft) but Beulah Higgins (or sister Myrtle) is the mother of this child.
I would like to hear any connections that there might be - there are alot of John Ashcrafts and the Oklahoma records are sub-par... Also would like to know what happened to Anna and if there were any kids from Martha.

The family story is that they lived on a reservation in Indian Territory - Mary Ella Chandler is Cherokee and confirmed on the roll.

I have more info if you want it. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
ASHCRAFT James M. 1921-2011 Ohio
WARSAW: James M. Ashcraft, 89, of SR 541 near Warsaw, Ohio(Coshocton County) died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Jim was born September 19, 1921 in Frazeysburg, Ohio (Muskingum County) to the late DW "Watt" and Clara (Barcus) Ashcraft.

In 1932 he moved with his parents to the home farm where he resided until a brief illness.
He was a long time member of the New Guilford Methodist Church and served on their board. He was also a past member of the Ohio State Grange.

On April 24, 1943 he married Laura Naomi Mikesell. He worked throughout most areas of the factory, which flourished when coated cloth or "canvas" was in great demand, particularly by the Army.

He had the unique ability to remember people, not only their names, but who their parents were, who their kids were, where they lived, who they were related to and in many cases how they were related to his family. It was a truly amazing gift that will be missed in the community.

He is survived by his son, Brig Gen (ret) Myron Glenn (Pamela) Ashcraft of Lexington; two grandsons, Christopher Glenn (Valerie) Ashcraft of Lexington and Phillip James Ashcraft of Denver, CO; a great-grandson, Landen James Ashcraft; and step great-granddaughter, Hannah Nicole Archibald; and numerous close nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace, Evelyn, and Ruby.

The family would like to thank all of the friends, neighbors and extended family for their support, particularly during the two years since the passing of Naomi. Visits, food, phone calls and friendship made the separation more bearable.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, Ohio with Pastor Monica Huntsman of the New Guilford United Methodist Church presiding.
Burial will be in the Frazeysburg Cemetery, Frazeysburg, Ohio.
At 2:00 p.m. friends and family will meet at the New Guildford Church for food and fellowship.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 18th from 5-8 p.m., and prior to service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. www.fischerfuneralhome.com

Donations can be made to the New Guilford United Methodist Church, 30770 New Guilford Rd., Walhonding, OHIO 43843.

Published in the Times Recorder on April 17, 2011
