I'm not related -- just wanted to warn you. I've heard of a couple of cases where people posted photo requests and were scammed. Distant "cousins" say "Sure -- please send me copying fees, postage, etc" and then mail a phony photo or none at all! Be careful....

You might have better luck if you repost this at the Ashfield board and/or try to contact other descendants, if any.

Good luck!

Hello,
I just received some family info from an Aunt and I think we are related some how. The document I have has several Ashfield's listed with dates, however the side of the page has been damaged and most dates are incomplete. Although as I look it does say that Helen Ashfield wife of William dies May 23, 1889. Hope this helps, let me know your connection, give me some time and I may have more for you.
My Dads cousins are Marie, Catherine and Elizabeth Werth from Southfield. We are trying to trace their father Kristof back through Erzsebet WERTH & John UNGER, Johann WERTH & Barbara Steyer. John & Barbara are Zsuzsa WERTH's parents as well as her sister Erzsebet WERTH.
Zsuzsa WERTH and Miklos KESZLERING are the parents of Nicolaus (Miklos) KESZLERING. He married Gizella SCHISLER who is your grandmother's mother. Try as I may, I can find no connection to Albert KESZLERING who is not from the Banat. Can you connect them to Albert?
Tom
ps: Which ASHFIELD are you from, Earl, Arlene, Jerry, David or Anne Marie?
Rebecca Johnston Ashfield Burt - do you know her sibs?

Looking for the names of Rebecca's siblings and what happened to her parents.

She was born 22 Feb 1826 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland (neither Omagh emmigration, nor the two churches have any record of her or her father in Omagh). Her father was Thomas Ashfield, born in Scotland. Her mother may have been Anna, born in England.

Her obituary (14 Feb 1919, Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY) says she and her father came to the USA in 1832. Rebecca was adopted by Steven and Rosa (Van Cortland) Smith before 1843, in Syracuse.

She married Oliver Teal Burt (1824-1887) on 12 Jan 1848 in Syracuse.

Her siblings MIGHT have been:
Elizabeth Ashfield (born abt 1834 in NY), living with Rebecca and Oliver in 1850, and
Anna J. Ashfield (born Aug 1844 in NY), wife of George A. Avery. Rebecca was living with them in 1870, listed on the census as his sister-in-law.

Did the family come through Canada? What happened to the mother? To the father? Where did Rebecca get the Johnston name from? Was she married previously to her marriage to Oliver Burt?

My grandfather (Willam Edward Lauder, b 1911, Chapleau, Ontario, Canada) had a first cousin, Charles Ashfield (b. Nov 1902, Canada). In 1923, Charles married Pearl Humiston in Chateaugay, Franklin Co., NY, and they had four children: Evelyn (b,d 1924), Mary(b,d 1926), Joseph, & Robert. Pearl died in 1971, and Charles in 1977.

I'm hoping to get into contact with anyone descended from Joseph & Robert and find out whether they have any further information on Charles Ashfield & Pearl Humiston, or Charles' parents, Joseph Ashfield & Katherine Lauder.

Hi Again Anthea: Margaret came to US about 1896 at age 15. She lived in New Jersey. She had a Father who was a Captain of a ship and was killed on his ship. My Mother was her daughter. She married at age 18 to George Washington Stinger who was from Philadelphia, Pa. My Mom was Sadie Helen Stinger. She died almost 11 years ago now.
Any info you can send me on Margaret would be most helpful. Thanks. Shirley

Hi Tonya,
My great-uncle Earl's middle name was Ellsworth, so I don't think we have a connection. Just in case, here is some additional info. He was born in 1892 in Chicago, Illinois, married to Vesta Wray ? and died in 1959 in California. I would so love to find any of his children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, so I hope maybe some of this rings a bell with you. Could this be your grandfather's father?? Please reply to this message if you think we are related and we can exchange email addys.

Hi Shirley: On the Ellis Island website I think you'll find your Margaret Ashfield arriving in the U.S. as Maggie Ashfield aged 17y on 17 Jul 1896. She came on the ship Britannic from Liverpool, England.
Do you know the names of her parents by any chance? It's probably easier if you email me back at weston4@netcom.ca rather than through the message board. Anthea

I am looking for information on the Ashfield family that lived in Cook Co from at least 1886. I believe some members still live there. I am a descendent of Ethel Ashfield, b.
