Hi Janeen,

Sorry I haven't responded until now. Anyways, I don't know exactly when my family came over to the U.S. I'll ask some family members to get more of the details. I do know that we cam from North Eastern part of England. Ashwood is realy Welsh. From what I've been told, the city from where the Ashwood's came from was near a big forest of Ash trees so that's how we got the name. The family crest is a English Sun with seven scrolls below the sun. I'm not sure what the seven scrolls represent. I'll check with my Grandpa to find out. Anyways.... that's what I have for now. Take care.

I am researching Ashwoods in west central Illinois and have made alot of progress, yet I am still trying to piece together several of Joseph Ashwood's decendants and all of his ancestors. He was born 1/7/1823 in Ridgemont, England and made his way to Illinois and was married by 1848. He died in Schuyler Co on 8/24/1897. If anyone has any information or needs information from here in central Illinois my e-mail address is skeet8828@cs.com

my great grandmother was harriet v. ashwood, born in 1869 ogdensburg, new york and died 1942 nashua, new hampshire (near milford). harriet married william whitehead about 1892. they had three children, charles, gloria and james (my grandfather).

i believe harriet's parents were william ashwood and mary j.
i am most definitely interested in english ashwoods. i've been able to tie back to william ashwod of ogdensburg, new york, whose parents were from england, according to the 1880 census. william was 34 years old in 1880 (approx. 36 years old) which means his parents were already in new york by 1846. does this information tie with you?
thanks for writing,
janeen

yes, i am most definitely interested in ashwood's from england. my gggrandfather, william ashwood, reports in the 1880 census (ogdensburg, 241/14) that his parents were from england. william was born in new york in ~1846, thus his parents must have immigrated before that time... does this tie to you? thanks for writing, janeen

Chris,
Yes, there are several of us interested in the Ashwood family/ies. How did your Ashwood's make their way to Minnesota? Do you have any family history that takes you back through NY to England? I'm still working on my Ashwood's in NY. I haven't yet been able to find the immigrant ancestor (sigh).
Have a safe and happy New Year.
Janeen
