Oh no, I'm so sorry Angela! I had no idea she had passed away. My mother died of cancer at the age of 61. I hate cancer. I'm sorry about your uncle too.

Maybe her immediate family has her research and can help you/pass the torch. I know she had copies of a family bible. She seemed really nice and she was a great researcher.

Rebecca

It was very very quick. She died March 17 2010. Her dad, Uncle Earl, died exactly one year later, March 17, 2011. He literally died of a broken heart.

http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lksstarr/TraylorFile...

Angela, the above is a really awesome page I found having to do with Lemuel B Askew's wife Elizabeth O'Banion's family (mother Milly Traylor and father Thomas O'Banion).

According to another distant cousin, Sherry Ledlow, Lemuel B Askew changed his name from Lemuel Denton. She's been researching for years and hasn't found any info beyond that (at least she hadn't the last time we corresponded). She was running a rootsweb site for O'Banion, I think, if you wanted to look her up. I'm not sure if that's still active. The only other info I know is that Lemuel was a veteran of the Mexican War (that info was also provided by Sherry, who had his name added to the Lawrenceburg TN war memorial).

Unfortunately, I have a hard time researching anything more than what you can find on the internet because I live in MA. I've never even been to South Carolina (his place of birth), Tennessee (one place of residence) or Alabama (another place of residence). I'm hoping to plan a trip sometime in the next few years to research.

Hi, Ramona:

You might ought to check out the family of Henry Askew who supposedly came from NC/GA but moved through upstate (Itawamba County) Mississippi... into Arkansas, then, down into Calcasieu Parish, LA (near Lake Charles) and back up into Arkansas.

I am actually looking for my own Askew relatives for my Great Great Grandmother was Delaney "Lou" Askew, daughter of Henry Askew.

Does anyone have any info on the ASKEW line that was Mr.ASKEW who married (as her 2nd husband) Miss Jane (nee BOOKER) who was the widow of Abel HANKINS jr--of Knoxville, TN in mid-to-late 1800s?
This is all i know, and that i believe she was buried beside him, Mr.Askew (not Mr.Hankins) when Jane died. Jane had one child i know of, by Mr.Hankins--a THOMAS WEST HANK-INS b.1830 in Knoxville, TN. Then after her husband Mr.Abel Hankins passed-away, she later married a Mr. ASKEW. If any-one has any info on THIS ASKEW LINE---i'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Sincerely, Diane M. Spencer

Indiana Askew/Ayscue Macon and her family

Based on a newspaper article, a death certificate, the vicinity she came from (Warren County) and a name like Indiana, I thought for sure "piece of cake" as far as tracking her from 1870 back. WRONG! After trying to tie every Askew, Ascue, Asque, Ayscue from Granville, Vance, Franklin and Warren County down, for over a year on Ancestry.com I now know a great deal more about my Ayscue ancestry. But the piece of evidence that I received via a scanned document from a distant relative of all places on Facebook has finally put to rest who Indiana's father was (at least for me). This document is a Petition, dated November 27, 1894 by the grandchildren and in somecases the great grandchildren of Benjamin Askew requesting the sale of 150 acres of land that had been held by Benjamin's son, John D. Ayscue until the time of his death. Benjamin Askew's original will had a clause stipulating that the 150 acres be distributed to all his grandchildren upon John D. Ayscue's death. Benjamin's will is recorded in Warren County: Benjamin Askew, CO:100, DATE: 1847, RECORDED COPY: WB:39/301.

Most of the petitioners name's I already had but but not all of them and not tied to Benjamin Asycue/Askew in may cases. After writing the names down of the petitioners a pattern developed as follows:

Ben Malone Ball his mother was Rhoda Ayscue daughter of Benjamin.

Sally Wester her mother was Rhoda Ayscue daughter of Benjamin.

Emily Ball her mother was Rhoda Ayscue daughter of Benjamin.

Adam Ball his mother was Rhoda Ayscue daughter of Benjamin.

Osbourn Lemuel (Lem) Ayscue son of Tanner/Turner Ayscue she is either the daughter or daughter-in-law(She and Lemuel are on the 1850 & 1860 census, alone) of Benjamin.

John Henry Ayscue son of L John Ayscue son of Benjamin.

Winnie Ayscue daughter of L John Ayscue son of Benjamin.

Lottie Ayscue daughter of L John Ayscue son of Benjamin.

George T. Ayscue son of L John Ayscue son of Benjamin.

Lemuel Hayes, son of Dollie Ayscue, daughter of L John Ayscue, son of Benjamin.

Al Peoples, son of Jenny Ayscue, daughter of Benjamin.

Joseph Peoples, son of Jenny Ayscue, daughter of Benjamin.

Frances Peoples, daughter of Jenny Ayscue, daughter of Benjamin.

Martha Peoples, daughter of Jenny Ayscue, daughter of Benjamin.

John D. Ayscue, son of John D. Ayscue, son of Benjamin.

John Harris ?

Indiana Macon, daughter of John D. Ayscue, son of Benjamin.

Lucy Ayscue, daughter of John D. Ayscue, son of Benjamin.

John Ball, son of Carolyn Ayscue, daughter of John D. Ayscue, son of Benjamin.

Macon Ball, son of Carolyn Ayscue, daughter of John D. Ayscue, son of Benjamin.

Lizzie Ball, daughter of Carolyn Ayscue, daughter of John D. Ayscue, son of Benjamin.

The petitioners were grouped by decendency lines from Benjamin. This is why I think Indiana was the daughter of John D's first marriage. I also think she was born in 1824ish to John D. & mystery first wife (Alisha Goodson or a name very similar.) There is an Indiana Ayscue with Wiley & Minerva Ayscue in 1850 & 1860 Franklin Co, NC, this is probly my gggrandmother staying with relatives.

If anyone has already researched this will and has a copy please let me know.

It also appears that Benjamin Askew's father was William Askew he is listed on 1830 Sandy Creek, Warren NC census and 1840 Washington, NC census (don't understand why Washington, NC because many of the same families are on the 1830 Sandy Creek, Warren, NC census)it states he is 103 year old pensioner of the Revolutionary War. I think he and John Serug Cerug Askew are either father and son, or brothers.

1894 Petition was a break for me; it shows that shared early documents can sometimes create surprising results.

Feel free to help me fill in the family gaps!

Hi Jenny

Yes, please do take photos or anything else you can use from my tree. I have found 2 Miles Askews in my research,
the earlier one - born around 1800 was married and had a son John. I think his wife must have died in childbirth as
she soon diseappears. Unfortunately Miles died in the workhouse at Ulverston. I cannot technically connect him to our huge Askew family, but I just know he was one of ours. The thing I cant understand is that, although times were hard, that with such a big family he had to go into the workhouse. The other Myles, of course, was son of Thomas and Sarah.

I wont bother with any more info, unless you ask for it, as you should be able to get it all from my tree. You are right about them giving their children the same names. Thomas and Sarah had a Mary Ann Askew, born 1860, as did George Askew (Thomas's brotgher) and Alice Steel. Their Mary Ann was also born in 1860 - what a nightmare that was, making sure I got the right one each time I put in some info.

Good luck with your research, and please dont hesitate to contact me if I can help with anything else.

My email is: s.warby737@btinternet.com

Hello Gill,
Thank you so much for the information. The invitation has already come through which was quick. My mother in law seems to have confused her mother's family the Askews and her father's family the Crawfords who are from Ulverston. We are trying to sort out who is who, which isn't easy when so many Christian names were used by both families. We have found out one interesting fact, she remembered two of her favourite great uncles Myles and Christopher Askew and called my husband after them. He is Miles Christopher.
Do you mind if I take some family photographs from your tree?
Regards
Jenny

Hello again Jenny

If you are looking for the earlier Askews, they all originate in Bouth or Colton (small villages next to each other). I will ask Ancestry to invite you to my tree, as I have made it private, on account of people taking photos without asking me.

This is the bare outline from the beginning:

James Askew married Mary Hughs in in 1817 and they had 9 children, 2 of them twins. One of the children was Thomas Askew (1832 - 1884). Thomas married Sarah Bevins (born 1835) and they also had 9 children. One of these was Thomas born 1862 who married Harriet Lloyd.

I dont know if you are aware, but it can take up to 6 weeks to be invited to another tree, so if you like I can send more details of these people - if you just send me your e-mail address, it would make it easier.

Im still trying to find James' parents - there are a few likely candidates, but I cant verify any of them unfortunately. By the way, one of Thomas and Sarah's children was George Askew, my great great grandfather.

Please let me know if there's anything specific I can tell you.

Bye for now.

Best wishes
Gill

Hello Gill,

Thank you for replying. My Mother in law Joyce Irving Nee Crawford was, we are fairly certain the daughter, of Harriet Askew born 1894. Harriet married a Wilfred Crawford from Ulverston and had three daughters Dorothy, Joyce and Audrey. The problem was they thought Harriet's mother was Emma Lloyd and had no idea of the father's name. Harriet Lloyd and Thomas Askew are the only people I can find living in the Ulverston area at this time who had two daughters, Sarah and Harriet, the correct age and the Lloyd surname matches as well. With a bit of detective work I have discovered the Emma was the name of Harriet's mother in law which is obviously where the confusion arose. Joyce married a Harold Irving from Blaydon and I am married to their son Miles. A bit confusing I know. It would be wonderful if you have any information about Thomas and Harriet and their ancestors. I am sorry I know very little and cannot be of any help.
So glad you replied

Jenny

I have just begun searching my husband's mothers family and have already come to a dead end.

His grandmother was Harriet Askew who was born about 1894 and dies in Preston in 1967.

I have been told her mother was Emma Lewis Lloyd, who lived from 1861 - 1963. I can find no record of this person.

She married Thomas Askew in 1920 and they lived in Ulverston Lancashire. They had three daughters Joyce (living), Dorothy and Audrey. If anyone can help me I would be very grateful.
How wonderful to hear from you. My grandfather, Jesse Green Adcock "Green" and Ethel Farmer were half brother and sister. Green was the eldest child of Elizabeth "Betty" Macon, Adcock, Farmer, Woodard. Green would visit Ethel in Port Charles and she and some of her children were often visitors in Green's home in Goldsboro, NC. There is no one left in that generation but I remember stories of the Bledsoe boys. I will begin to put together pictures for you as soon as I can. I have pictures you will, I'm sure, be most interesed in. As I said, Green's hobby was photography and raising roses. I am also a photographer. I was born in 1942 and most of what I know is second hand...stories I listened to my father and aunt tell.

Let's talk as soon as you get the pictures or sooner if you like. My email and phone number are:
cawanua@aol.com 919-394-2177
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cawanua Adcock Keeling

Yes Ethel Farmer Bledsoe was my grandmother; she died in the year I was born, 1953. Ethel Arlene Bledsoe, Ethel Farmer Bledsoe's youngest child was my mother. There is only one child of Ethel's alive today, Caroline Rebecca Bledsoe Phillips; Aunt Becky was the next to youngest of Ethel & Thomas Bledsoe's 9 children. Is there any of your family that still remember Ethel or possibly her mother? or have pictures? Early photos are very limited or at least for Ethel's direct children. I believe it must be due to Thomas dying in 1941 and Ethel in 1953; the upheaval must have been tremendous.

Hello, are you related to Indianna through one of Ethel Farmer's children? I am her gg-grandaughter through her son Jesse Greene Adcock, her grandson.

I do not have the answers to your questions. They are also puzzles to me. I have Indiannna's death cirtificate with the name of her mother listed as Alecia. Does it not also state Alecia was born in Ireland? Records are not at hand, but I do know that these folks seem to be a bit loose in identifying their origin. I have another example which involves my grandfather, Jesse Green Adcock in a census.

As to the name Serugg, the change seems to have occured when John Askew came on the scene. There is more but as I have said I do not have my records in front of me.

My grandfather, Jesse Green Adcock was an advid photography enthusiasist and I have many pictures from the late '20's thru 1940's.

Please let me know who you are and how you relate.

Anxious to hear from you,
Cawanua

Hi, I just found this post. I'm Indianna Ayscue Macon's gggranddaughter. I have a copy of her death certificate that states her father is John D. Ayscue and mother Alecia Goodson. Was Alecia's real name Elizabeth? Do you happen to know the names of her siblings. I've found the name "Serug Cerug" used instead of Ayscue as a last name for several different Ayscues, do you know why this name keeps turning up?
