I knew Jack Asprey in Montreal - in fact, I succeeded him when he retired in 1984. That's him in the middle of the photo, at his retirement function. Sorry to only notice your post 10 years later :).

Hi Janet, Keith Aspreys father was George William Asprey Born salford 1908, His father also George William Asprey born Salford 1861. Tis George had 6 girls and only one boy, i have had contct from some of the girls families. Georges father was Peter Asprey born 1832 in Lymm, this could have come under Warrington.

Thank you for your reply. I don't know if he is related in any way. Do you know his fathers name? and I will see if he fits anywhere in my tree. I came accross the photo some time ago, I was looking for any Asprey's/Aspray's from Salford at the time my grandfather and his family were born in Salford as was his father and his brothers. I have traced them further back to Warrington, but what happened to some of the siblings from Salford are a mystery.

I think the name of the person you want is Keith Asprey who was at Salford Grammer school about that time, he would have been 13. He was my father in law.

I have wondered in the past if there is any connections here. Though up to now there seems to be no connection. I have only three Emma's in my tree and each were not born Asprey I will keep in touch if this situation changes.

Mygrandmother was Emma Asprey, she married Arthur Archer, and her sister Ada married John Willian (aka Jack) Archer, 2 brothers married 2 sisters.

This was really kind of you!! I found him on the 1911 census at Gledhill Street with his Mother, Ann. On the 1901 his father and two brothers and a sister were there but as he was only born on 10/9/09 he wasn't there!!
My only reason ofr finding him is that he was a lone soul and so I didn't get much from him or Mother . He died in 1978.. We lived away from Manchester, for many reasons. His Mother had died on May 8th 1945. He always told me his Father and brothers died in the Great War. In fact I think I've traced them and Minnie Gertrude until much later. My agenda is to prove to my husband( a Whittaker/ White) who goes back a long way, that I have a long heritage too!! I used a Mrs Stout in Manchester(Stoutroots Research) who got the line back to Staffordshire in 1600's

I have quite a few Asprey's in Salford though
I have not yet come across Thomas Fortune being connected to any of them. Strange because my mother is also researching but she is going to the records office and the library while I am doing it on the web and she only mentioned the other week that there was somebody querying if we had a Thomas Fortune anywhere in out tree.

I am the only child of Thomas Fortune Asprey born 1909 to Annie (Westwood) Asprey. I know he had a sister Minnie who was born 1900 and married in 1921. I believe he had 2 brothers. He never knew them or his Father. The names are George/ Arthur but I cannot attribute them!! You can find them easily in the 1901 census and TFA is on 1911 with his Mother.They lived in Gledhill Street Salford and he went to St Cyprian's School in the early part of the 1900's.
TFA was married (1938?) to Kate and then to my Mother Elizabeth much later after a long partnership.
I am an OAP myself now and have no real interest other than tracing family history. I am not looking to"find" family.

I have James Stockton married Sarah Asprey (both ages 22) in 1852 and George Stockton (age 23)married Elizabeth Astbury (age 19) inn 1854. In each case the father of the bride is listed as Peter, occupation Fustian Cutter.

I have an Elizabeth Asprey b 1836c in Warrington. Info on 1841 Census states her aged 5-born in Warrington, father Peter Asprey, other siblings: John aged 15
Joseph aged 13
Sarah aged 10
Peter aged 7
Margaret aged 3
Mary aged 0 months.

Hi, I'm looking for my G-G-Grandmother, Elisabeth Aspred/ Asprey. She was married to Rudolf Hoffer. They had a least 2 children ( Olga Ulla and Marietta). Olga Ulla was born 8/4-1887 and married Jens Jørgen Schwaner( from Denmark) in Vienna 26/11-1916.
I was told that Marietta married a Aksel Piculell and moved to USA.
Any help would be appreciated.

AXEL CHRISTIAN ELSTROM PICULELL was born 1876 Feb. 28. in Copenhagen/Vor Frelser and died 1952 Aug.30. in Copenhagen/Sion. He married 1. 1906 Nov.18. in Vienna (divorced 1920) JOHANNA (Mary) ANNA JANZEN, born 1882 Jan.8. He married 2. 1921 Sep.3. (unknown where, but probably in Vienna, where Axel lived for many years) -
MARIA ELISABETH HOFER, born 1876 Aug.11. in Egypt (!)
and died 1952 April.18. in Copenhagen/Sion. Axel and Maria Elisabeth (Marietta) had no children, but Axel had a daughter by his first wife; FRIDA ELSTROM PICULELL born 1907 March.7. in Vienna. Little is known about her - but she is said to have married a German (Austrian ?) officer.

I was very interested to learn the names of Maria Elisabeth's parents, which I did not have before. What else do you know about them?

Looking for Aspreys in Salford

I am looking for someone who can give me the first name of unknown Asprey on a photograph from Salford Grammer School class 2s in 1949. I would aslo be grateful for any other information on any Aspreys from Salford, in particular any information on Ernest Asprey, William and Alice who were the children of John Thomas Asprey and Mary Jane Anwell who were married about mid 1800's.

My grandfather is John (Jack) Asprey. I beleive he was born in Moncton. NB about 70-80 yrs ago. The family moved to Montreal years later. He, John, married about 50 yrs ago to a lady named Barbra Huges. They had three sons and a daughter, all born in Montreal. I'm going to get my grandfather to write out all the info that he remembers and share it here so we can see what part of the Asprey tree we all are from.

I do belive there are two different branches of the Asprey tree in Montreal. I'm waiting for my grandfather to give me some more info on his parents and what ever if anything, about his grand parents. I'll share all info I get.

I finally have some more info from my Grandpa. This is all he could remember over the phone but he's going to snail mail me all the paper work he has on his parents and grandparents
and so forth.

(my grandpa) John Asprey born May 1923 Montreal.
(his brothers) Doug and Robert. I belive they are younger.

(my g.grandpa)Fredrick Winford Asprey. born Moncton NB
he married Rhoda Haynes. Born in Birmingham England.
Fredrick's brothers are Charles and James. Charles has a child named Geogina.

(my g.g.grandfather) Benjamin Aspery. As far as I know he's from Moncton also.

I'm also looking to find a Shelly Asprey. She went to school with me in Greenfield Park, CRHS. 87-92. I belive she and her father did some family research. This is all I have for now but I'll keep in touch.

BINGO!!! I just had a call from my Grandpa. He remembered that his Grandfather, Benjamin Asprey, was married to a Lillian Dryden. Could that mean, Linda, that our families are from the same branch?

My family moved to Montreal i think in early 1920's
Lillian and Benjamin, Martha and William Wesley Dryden and i think George harris, moved all together at the same time to montral from moncton. i had once reached a women living in Greenfield park in the south shore of montreal. who was trelated to Benjamin and her grand fathers name was George but at the time George had Alztimer and she didn't have any information on the family by the way George was living in Toronto, Ontario. i list the name of this woman and her tel. #. i have moved since out of Montreal to NY. i did go the the library on sherbrook around 100 there are lots of Asprey listed. in archives. This is what i have on Benjamin Asprey family
