Mary Elizabeth Aston from Worcestershire England b 1821 married Edward Allen

My gg grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Aston from Worcestershire Eng b 1821, she married Edward Allen, some of their children were born in ENG, and some in the states. They settled in Montgomery county, VA. Our family has always heard stories that the Aston's were related to some of the families who were titled in England. As in Sir's and Baronets, but her husband wasn't and she left it all behind and came with her husband to America. I have pictures of her parents in England and they definitely are dressed very expensively. The story is Elizabeth was invited to Queen Victoria's ball at her coronation in 1838 and she "danced there". I believe her father was Thomas Aston. Does anyone know if there is anyway you can find documents of the attendees to the coronation or the guest list? Thank you,

Well, how embarrassing! To have done all that research and still I have some of these Astons mixed up! Please disregard my last message. A.M. Aston who married Cora Gray is obviously not the Milligan Sheil Aston I have married to Cora Gray. Perhaps you should contact me and straighten me out!
Thanks.

Although this is not my direct line of Astons, I do have some information if you haven't had any help on this one...I have checked my information and I believe it to be sound.

The man who was married to Cora Gray (his second marriage) was Milligan Shield (or Shields) Aston. Andrew Milligan Aston appears to be his uncle, married to Manerva Jane Morton. Andrew Milligan Aston died in the Civil War...

If you would like any other help, please contact me. I'd be happy to share what I have.
jamiedaniel33@gmail.com

Arthur Harris Aston was a founding member of the Hamilton Club in Western Victoria in 1875. He was a Receiver and Paymaster with the Lands Board. He was transferred to Horsham in 1876. I would be grateful for further information relating to him.

Charlotte Halton b 1851 NSW married Charles Aston in either July 1873 in Sydney as stated on birth cert of 1st child Charles Henry (b 23/5/1876 - d 1878) or in May 1874 as stated on cert of 2nd child Percy (b 21/7/1878) Been unable find either marriage. But on 1st child's cert it also says previous issue was 2 girls by former marriage to Baker. Also unable to find this marriage, or their births or deaths.
She was only 22 when she had her 1st child with Charles, and he was 51, and a Hatter and they were living in Chisholm Lane Sydney.
Hi Kerry
I was watching my sons play football at Fowlers Park Wolverhampton last Sunday 1st April.

As I was walking along a path at the side of the park I spotted a memorial stone lying behind iron railings in a back garden. It reads as follows.
This Memorial Stone was laid on the 10th day of October 1864 by Isiah Aston Esq.
Today I looked on Findmypast and located Isaiah and Harriet Aston living in Oaks Crescent Wolverhampton in 1861. Isiah was a Coal Master.
This family is nothing to do with and I have no tree etc on Ancestry.
However I was really curious why this stone was where it was and who Isaiah Aston was. I took a photograph of the memorial stone which I will gladly forward to you if you wish.
My e-mail address is l.w.g.w@btinternet.com

Kind Regards

Lewis Wright

Re: Samuel Aston 1808 Will/James Aston 1789 Will in South Carolina

Answering my own post. I no longer believe that the Samuel Aston of Fairfield Co., SC, whose will is dated 1808 is the same Samuel Alston (Aston) who came to Charleston, SC in 1767 from Antrim, Northern Ireland on the ship "Earl of Donegal."

Samuel Alston came to SC under the Bounty Program and as an Irish Protestant received 100 acres of land upon arrival in SC. I have a copy of the plat for his grant and his acreage which was in Craven Co., SC on Lynch's Creek, near Camden, SC.

Most who came on this ship were originally Scottish, and as Presbyterians went to Long Creek, SC, near Abbeville, SC and settled near the church. Because Samuel's grant was not located there, this makes me think his lineage could have been from northern England, possibly Lancashire or Cumbria where many Alstons were from who were indeed Protestant but not Presbyterian (Scottish).

Samuel Aston whose will is dated in 1808 in Fairfield Co., SC owned acreage on Dumper's Creek and the Little River, (per his will) north of Winnsboro, SC. His children listed in the will are William, Peggy and Betty. Possible this Samuel is the son so named in James Aston's will in Abbeville, SC, dated 1788.

James Aston from Abbeville lists in his will younger sons, John, Samuel and William, and daughters, Mary, Sarah and Elizabeth. The Samuel from Fairfield Co. better corresponds to the likely chronology of James' children. He mentions his wife as the executor but not by name. Could the Samuel Aston from Fairfield Co. be the son of this James?

Re: Rebecca Aston

Sorry to take so long in responding to your response to my previous email. Here's what I am trying to find and, how it relates to your question.
I have DOCUMENTED my Aston ancestors back from my naternal grandfather George Hugh Aston b. Bells, TX 1887 m. Myrtle Neill Aston in 1907 through John Aston b. b. 1775 VA?? or PA?? m. Elizabeth Taylor (NOT a joke!) in 1798. This John Aston also has a son named John R. Aston b. 1816 Powhatan, VA. My challenge is now to find John "Senior's" parents.
I have been down many cul-de-sacs which had no documentation. Perhaps I am at a "dead end" but TWO candidates seem likely but are UNPROVEN but with LIMITED support. They are William Aston b. ??1730?? in PA whose second wife was Margaret Phipps - m. circa 1750. They MAY??
have had a son named John b. around 1755. I do have ample documentation on William Aston including the fact that he was in multiple Chester Co., PA locations and owned land there paying taxes, etc. However, I can find no documentaiton for John's birth although at least three different on line trees state this as the case. The other candidate for John "Senior's" Father is Daniel Aston. Please see a posting on this same site from Martha Bell Aston dated Dec. 19,2010 for supporting details but, it seems that while both Daniel and William MIGHT be John Sr's. Father neither can be fully proven at this time.
Needless to say, IF I turn up convincing support for either, I will post new information and please do likewise.
Also, please feel free to contact me directly IF you wish.

My great grandparents were Ephriam and Mary Ann Moore Aston. Their son Ira Jacob, Fannie's brother, was my grandfather. He was the oldest of their four children, born in 1857. I also have hit a brick wall. I only started this past week in researching my family tree and can find absolutely noting past Ephriam and Mary Ann.

I have found different years of Ephriam's birth as well as different places of birth, along with his first name spelled differently and in some cases Austin listed as his last name instead of Aston. Also, Mary Ann's place of birth is different on some sites. I would really like to find information of their parents and if there were any siblings. I'm assuming that somewhere back they came from England since that is where most of the Aston's came from, but I would like to have confirmation.

From your post, you appear to be very knowledgeable about her or you indicate that you may have other family members that knew her? Please reply to me at crdenison@aol.com.
The Kellys in my family tree are my husbands side. I saw your pictures and I have to tell you my grandmother Ruth
bares a strong resemblance to Jennie. My roadblock is I don't know when Charles Aston died so I could view his death
certificate. It is very frustrating.

My great grandmother's brother "Arthur" actually is listed on the 1900 census as being born in 1890. Could "Alford" be "Arthur?" All I know is that Jennie's brother "Charles Aston" went to live in Pittsburgh. I have no idea what part. Can you view my family tree? I have some articles about Jennie Aston Walker posted there. I cannot seem to locate another possible census for Arthur for 1910. Could it be that "Alford" is my great Uncle Arthur? Also I could not help but notice that Charles had a daughter named Ruth. Jennie also had a daughter named Ruth. My grandmother, another one of Jennie's daughter's was named "Pearl Irene". I noticed that Charles also had a daughter with a middle name of "Irene". I have not figured out why my Grandmother had the middle name "Irene" but I don't think it is too common for a middle name.

I think that this is really interesting. Check out my tree and let me know what you think!

Natalie

Do you know which part of Pittsburgh your Charles settled in? On the 1910 Charles has a brother about 19 years old that lived with them. But on the census it says his name is Alford. That would have made him born about 1891 which is pretty close to 1888. And with the mistakes I have seen on the census, his name could be incorrect. I must say, this is very interesting.

Your Charles Aston fits to be the brother of my great grandmother Jennie Bell Aston. She had a brother named Charles. Their father was Samuel Aston. They were born in Scranton, PA. Jennie Bell eventually married George Walker from Binghamton, NY area and later moved to Niagara Falls. From the information I have, Charles lived in Pittsburgh. I am finding information that suggests that Jennie and her siblings' father Samuel might have also gone by his stepfather's last name "Wallace". So some records list them as Jenny Wallace and Charles Wallace. But I need to verify that further.

Jennie and Charles also had siblings by the names of George, William, Minnie (or Mae) and Arthur. George might have settled in Philadelphia. William settled in Binghamton. Minnie married Joseph Paskey. Arthur settled in California.

Looking for relatives of Aston family once living in Russell County, VA. or Washington Co., VA.
Specifically looking for information on Henry H. Aston and his wife Margaret "Maggie" Caldwell Aston. Henry died between 1900-1910. Margaret died during or after 1930 and was living in Honaker, Russell Co., VA. in 1930 Census with daughter Isabell/ Rachel. The daughter was listed at various times using either name and apparently had never married. Looking for gravesite of Margaret "Maggie" Caldwell Aston. I suspect that she is buried in one of the church affiliated graveyards in the Honaker area. Cannot find the grave of her husband Henry H. Aston either. He is NOT shown to be buried in the Henry Dickenson Aston graveyard.

Thank you,
John Darst

Hi,
Mary Vivian Aston was born in Dec. of 1888 in Washington Co., VA. She died in 1959 and is buried in the Aston Cemetery in Washington Co., VA. She was never married to my knowledge. Her father, William H. Aston moved from Washington Co., VA. to Mississippi and died there in 1948 which is how she ended up there

Most of the Astons were merchants, with some, as you have referred to, having gone to Collins Co., TX and ? from there. I don't know if I can be of further help if you are looking for relatives but I probably can be, I still have a number of 1st and 2nd cousins living in the Washington & Russell Co., VA. area that could shed light on current Aston reatives. Let me know if I may be of assistance.

John Darst
Hi Karen,

I descend from Andrew Moody Aston's sister (my grandmother) Bertie Louise Aston. I've been working on Aston genealogy for a long time and have connected our family (those who descend from Andrew Milligan Aston and Manerva Jane Morton) back to the Peden family ... Jane Peden b. 1741 in Ireland and John Morton, b. abt 1728 in Scotland. They immigrated with three children and Jane's brother, Thomas, to South Carolina in 1767. Would love to be in contact with you.

Monya Havekost

However, I have not been working on it for a couple years so if you would please give me a couple days, I will get back to you with all that I know and maybe we could exchange information. Thank you for respoding to my inquery.MJ

I may have information on Mary Aston, if she is the Mary Aston who married Elijah Allchurch and had a daughter, Sarah Allchurch who married William Holloway. Does any of these names ring a bell?

Russ Coad
