Nancy married a James E. Yarbrough. I can't find her mother and father and siblings. There is a Jacob Atchinson that might be her brother who married a Mary Yarbrough. Nancy and Jacob were both married in Henry County, TN. in 1840 a month apart. They are both in Mississippi in 1850 and in Columbia County, AR. in 1860. Any help would be appricated.

My husband's grandmother, Opal (Atchison) Hays, told me the same story and gave me a newspaper article on David Rice Atchison when I started doing genealogy back in 1989. To date, I have not connected David Rice Atchison to my husband’s Atchison family.

Thank you so much for taking the time to put together the material - that's very kind of you and I'm looking forward to seeing it. We're at an early stage of the research at present but I will of course keep you informed if the story makes it into the programme.

And we're focusing on Thomas for now but may throw things a little wider, so I will be in touch about this if so. As ever any photographs, images or examples of handwriting are always of particular interest, though I don't know if any survive in the case of Thomas Atchison. It's not a great problem if not as his story is so fascinating on its own.

I think Meredith has as much info as I have, but please do contact me direct ( drummoyne at btinternet dot com ) if there are gaps.

I suspect you'll have discovered by now that there are also links to Singapore - his eldest, John Simons Atchison, was the first lawyer to be admitted there with a proper qualification, while his cousin Henry Minchin Simons was one of the early merchants there. As for other parts of the empire, his cousins ended up in Canada, India, Australia and New Zealand.

I have read the original transcript of Thomas' court martial but did not copy it, so all I have is an outline. It's easily accessed at the National Archives.

I am putting together documents now. There are a few so it may take a few hours, but I will certainly send them off when I am done. Please let me know if any of this eventually does come to television. I would be so excited and happy to see it. I have quite a bit of information on his family as well. Are you interested in any of that? His wife's family? There are some incredible stories, but may stray a bit from Thomas.

Julia Ann Peebles was the Daughter of Stella Jayne Munn and not the daughter of Emma Atchison Peebles. Julia was born April 6,1905. Emma was the mother of Stella. I am Julia's daughter so I am sure of this info. Julia Married James David Raley and died in Ft. Gibson, Ok on April 15, 2004.

yes, Andy and Emma's mother name is shown sometimes as Alela, Saletha and saleda. Our grandmother Bessie who was the wife of Elmer Atchison, son of Andy said she was called edie. Which I'm sure was a nickname.

I saw in the 1880 census Emma's mother was Alela and in the 1870 Emma's middle initial was L. Also James A. as her brother. Is this Andy? Their home as Grant,Johnson,Ark.

Would love to see a picture of John. I have pics of Emma. My Mom and sisters loved Emma so much. She died when I was a baby. According to the census record of 1930 she could not read or write. Wish I had asked more about her. Thanks.

I have a picture of emma's father John Atchison. He was married twice that we know of. Married to Tammer Delaney Youngblood and they had Letha, Nellie, Lulu,Benjamin Frank, Johnny, Floyd, Agusta atchison. Lived in Long Creek, Carroll co. Arkansas. Will gladly share any info.

Yes this sounds like my Emma. She was born Feb.4,1868 in Mo. My grandmother Stella Jayne Munn, her daugher, was born May 4,1889 in Ark. We know nothing of the Munn family either. Emma married William Howard Peebles about 1890 in Ok. They had 9 or 10 children.Emma died Aug.20,1942 in Ft.Gibson, Ok. on a census of 1930 it stated that Emma could not read or write and her father was born in Illinois and mother born in Missouri.This is all I have so far. Thanks for replying.

Don't know any thing about Emma. Stella was her child by someone named Munn. Emma married William Peebles and had more children. My mother Julie Ann was Stella's first child by her step father William. Emma was born in Missouri Feb.4,1868. On a 1930 census she said her mother was born in Missouri and father in Tenn. My father was James David Raley from Lead Hill Ark.

The 1910 Missouri Census, Douglas County, records 9 children born and 8 living.

I'm researching Mary Ellen Atchison or Rynes. She was born about 1855 in Missouri and died in 1917 in New Mexico. I can't verify if she was an Atchison or a Rynes.

I am descended from William and Elizabeth through two of their children. Theophilu's daughter, Eliza Jane married Henry D.'s Son John William. Their daude Bertie is my grandmother. Bertie married Albert Tilden Shepherd in Jackson Co, MO and lived on a farm near Lone Jack. Albert was known as Jack Shepherd. My mother was their 4th child, Cletta. She married my father when they were students together at the University of Kansas. His name is Hero K. L'Ecuyer. They have thre children. I am the oldest and the one interested in family History. I have been married twice and have five children by my first marriage.

Wonderful to have contact! Thomas Simons, grandfather of Lydia Simons, Thomas Atchison's wife, was my 4-greats grandfather. That makes us some sort of incredibly remote cousins, I guess!

I have info on Lydia's line and also have notes (not a full transcription) of Thomas' court-martials - I was able to read them at the National Archives; I imagine you already have a copy of his book?

I am trying to search my maternal lines as far back as possible. The information I have managed to find, So far, is Alison Atchison, born about 1760 at "Berwick Borders" Scotland. Any information regarding the Atchison's from this area, or information on this area would be most appreciated.
Alison Atchison married Robert Wilkinson about 1786.

A lady named Sarah Smith, I'm pretty sure I met her on this site, told me she was a relative of the Atchisons and gave me some info from her family records, and some of this I found other places.
David Rice Atchison had the following siblings:
America b. 1809 no record or marriage
Benjamin Allen b. 1811 married to Margaret I. Baker in 1843
William b. 1813 married Sarah Robertson (my husband related through this Atchison line)
Alexander b. 1815 no record of marriage
Mary b. 1818 married to man with last name Allen
Rebecca T. b 1820 no record of marriage
David Rice Atchison raised brother Benjamin's son, John, after Benjamin died, which was around 1856-1859 in Clinton Co. Missouri. John was born around 1852. I don't know of any available photo of John.
If you are interested in learning more about David Rice Atchison, there's a book called "David Rice Atchison of Missouri, Border Politician" by William Parrish. It's out of print now, was published in the 1960's, but I found a copy through inter-library loan. I tried to find it on Amazon and E-Bay but didn't have any luck. It's less than 300 pages and covers quite a bit of history. I haven't had time to read all of it yet but it does touch on some genealogy.

I am interested in finding out about David Rice Atchison. I would like to find out more information regarding the fact that he had no children of his own but raised John's son. Can you tell me what his nephew's full name was? Where did they live and when did he start living with his uncle? How old was his nephew when he began living with his uncle? Is there a picture of his nephew? How long did the nephew live with his uncle? Did David Rice Atchison have any other nieces or nephews?

I still see no connection between Nedra (or Dedra) ATCHISON and LARAMA on the 1850 census for St. Clair Co., IL. If Nedra is the unknown wife of William ATCHISON (Sr.) who died around 1823 in St. Clair Co., IL. And William (Jr.) was born about 1803 and died after Aug. 1854; Jane who married Bine PELLUM (various spellings exist)3 Nov 1833; Elizabeth married Geo. WADDELL 9 May 1834; John died about 1838; Matthew G. born about 1815 died 30 Nov 1865 Washington Co., IL. [Lucretia Jane BARCLAY/BARKLEY mother of his children]; Peter born 8 Aug 1819 spouse Martha F. BARKLEY and Peter died 15 Sep 1862 buried Laney Cemetery in Washington Co., IL. With those children & marriages where is the LARAMA connection?

Yesterday I purchased an old photo at a local antique shop. The photo shows nine people in the yard in front of a house. On the reverse is written "Elwood Throgmorton, Pearl Nichols, Alice Cox, Della Atchison, Garland Throgmorton, Alvin Throgmorton, Lander Throgmorton". The photo may have been taken around 1910. The location is unknown. Attached is a copy of the photo.
