I am searching for my grandfather on my mothers side. She was born in 1918 birth surname harris, but her father was not married to her mother, he being married already. It appears that he did not see her a great deal she being brought up in stourbridge by her grandparents. He did offer to help out with her educational costs but was asked by her stepfather for a large sum to cover this which he paid through the courts. He was still in contact with her when she was eighteen where they were seen together in dudley in his large black car but after this they do not seem to have further meetings. I would love to know if anyone has any information they could share so that I could find out more about my grandfather as this has eluded me for a log period. My aunt believed that he was called Harry Attwood and he had something to do with the iron industry although this may be a total red herring. Possible links stourbridge kingswinford dudley.

I am hoping to sort out some confusion around William H. Attwood married to Elizabeth Johnston in 1876 in Ontario. I think he may be the William Henry Attwood born to James and Jane Attwood in Wales in 1847,but I'm not sure.
If anyone has any help for me I'd appreciate hearing from someone.
I need proof that the father of William H. was James Attwood.
The marriage certificate on Ancestry says the father is Joseph, not James.
His son William married Nora Florence Turner.

Hi David, like you i am at the early stages of tracing my family tree. My great grandfather Jack Reed married Olive Attwood, they both worked for the Style family, (Style & Winch brewery) I believe Olive was a seamstress for the style family home in Boxley and Jack a footman.

Hi Would like to hear from you regarding the Attwood side of your family. Joseph (1795) was the father of my gt.gt.gt grandfather John Attwood (1827) brother of Edwin(1826). The Attwood line is from my mothers side of the family, whom I did not know at all neither did my mother. Her father was Richard Attwood born 1887, born we think in Ashton Gloucestershire England, married to Jane Ford (1895) in 1915. My mother was Gertrude born West Bromwich, England (1916). This may not mean a thing to you but at least we both have a distant relative, we may have found.
Thanking you Sandra Paignton Devon,England

My GG GRandmother was Rose Maude Attwood nicknamed Mimi.
She was born in South Africa and came to the USA in 1892 with her widowed father and siblings George Adrian, Gladys, Edith, and one other. George E. Attwood remarried Ellen (maiden name possibly brewer) and had more children including Jack Ethered and Charles, I am wondering if this George E was the son of george Ethered Attwood who I have found? I want to know why he was in South Africa and anything on the mother. Any connections to this family?

Thomas Edmund Attwood . 1862 Canada

Looking for information on family of Thomas Edmund ATTWOOD, born in Canada (possibly Toronto) in 1862. Parents were John and Sarah (possibly WEBB) from England. John & Sarah emigrated from England to Canada with their 3 oldest children in about 1860 (daughter Ada was born in England in 1859). Sons Thomas and George were born in Canada, George in 1866. The family then moved to Chicago (about 1871) where daughter Caroline was born in 1872, followed by Lillie (Lillian) 3 years later. Thomas married Elizabeth "Lizzie" BRADY abt. 1888.

I would appreciate any help on this family--confirmation (or not!) of Sarah being Sarah Webb, parents of John & Sarah, where in England they came from, where in Canada they were--the usual stuff. Thomas is my children's g-g-grandfather and I would like to be able to tell them more about their father's family.

Hi Shawn

David WATTS is my 4th Great grandfather by his son Neri, then his dau Charlotte, her dau Ann LIDDLE, and her dau Charlotte PATERSON, who was my garandmother

I think David WATTS is the son of John WATTS b. Kinswinford and christened at Park Lane Presbyterian, Cradley Worcs on 24 Nov 1797. John WATTS married Elizabeth TAYLOR on 13 Apr 1818 at old Swinford Worcs.

John WATTS is shown on the 1871 census as living in Reddall Hill, Rowley Regis with Matthias ATTWOOD and Priscilla ATTWOOD, as a Lodger age 75 b. Kingswinford.

Priscilla would be the Priscilla WATTS b. 14 Aug 1801 and dau of Thomas WATTS and Elizabeth - so I presume she is John WATTS sister and that's how I worked out that John WATTS may have been the father of David WATTS.

David WATTS is mentioned in the book "A Mirror to the flock" by Rev James Hesselgrave Thompson which is his census of teh inhabitants of Cradley

"A Mirror to the Flock Part 1, No 592A
David WATTS, Forgeman, no church, "No heart".
Attwoods from around Stourbridge/Cradley

I currently have some detail (but always looking for more) of William Attwood (B: abt 1817 RowleyRegis, M: Rhoda HARRIS 1842) and had sons William and Joseph.
William (jr) was born 1844 Rowley Regis, Died Fassifern Aust 7 Oct 1916. He married Jane (Wyer/Wire/Weir/Wyre) about 1862. Their son William (B: 1864 nr Dudley, D: 1954 Newcastle, NSW, Aust) is my G-G'father. I can recall him living with his son Clarence in Hamilton, NSW, Aust - he died when I was about 6 years.

I would love some detail to complete the picture. William (1844) left Worcs for Staffs and thence to Timaru, NZ about 1869 (in response to an advertisement) and after a couple of years headed to Newcastle, Australia.

One source has daughters Mary Ellen (B: 1870 Lane End Staffs), Julietta (B: 29/1/1873 D:18/11/1874 at sea) and Louisa (B: 13/11/1874 Timaru NZ). I am sceptical, but would welcome comments.
No Louisa recorded born in NZ, Unable to locate passenger list with the appropriate names.
I have some details of descendants of Willliam (1864), for anyone who is looking.

I found a picture in a book on Greenwich where my Attwood family lived after coming from Uffington, Berkshire.

I don't think they are related to me but I thought you might try this research line. My mother never asked any questions .My grandmother has passed many years ago so there is really no other way to get info on them. I was with my Mom at lunch last week she asked if I could look for him on my computer, She does not even own a computer. I can assure you at this point in her life she wants nothing but infromation on a man she never knew.

I am researching the family of Joseph Attwood who settled in the Deal/Dover area of Kent c1895, though Joseph himself does not appear to have lived for any length of time in the county. His wife was Louisa Elizabeth Craig and they had 7 children, only 4 of whom survived infancy - Lydia Louise, (b 1891), Harold Ernest (b 1893), Alice Eleanor (b 1896) and Frederick Charles (b 1897). Louisa also had a son of her own, Henry b 1901.

Any information gratefully received.

Jane Middleton

Hi thanks for your message. I posted this for a cousin of mine who is from the Attwood line, I really can't remember exactley what she after. I think it was confirmation of William's parents, birth, marriage and children. I know she did a lot of manual research and kept coming up with blanks. If you have any of this informationI could pass on to her I'm sure she would be very grateful. I will try to check what she after but she is elderly and not very computer literate.

Thanks carol

William son of George and Sarah, and Elizabeth (Siviter, sometimes Civiter) were my 5 x great grandparents. I have a few hundred descendants traced...and many ancestors back to late 1400s.

The key to working out William and Elizabeth (Betty) is that after the birth of their first son they moved from Rowley across the river Stour to Cradley.

What do you want to know?

Nigel

Looking for relatives of, or information about LUCY ATTWOOD (ATWOOD/ATWORD/ATTWORD), born in the USA about 1838, possibly Cincinnati, OH and died 1898 in Ontario, Canada. I believe that her father was SEABORN ATTWOOD and she probably had at least 3 siblings: 1 brother (poss. Alex) & 2 sisters (one named NANCY who married HENRY MILLER in Kent Co., Ontario in 1863). Her family moved to Chatham, Kent Co., Ontario, CANADA sometime between 1851-1856, where Lucy married CLAYTON or CLAYBORN OVERSTREET (b. about 1815 KY). Lucy & Clayton/Clayborn had at least 11 children born in Kent Co., Ontario:
1. James (born 1856)
2. Mandy (born 1859)
3. Edward (born 1860)
4. Milla (born 1862)
5. Eliza (born 1864)
6. Sarah (born 1866)
7. Moses (born 1868)
8. Leah (born 1870)
9. Jane (born 1872)
10. George (born 1875) &
11. ALbert (born 1877).

I've had real difficulty tracking the ATTWOOD, etc. family in the US Census before their move to Ontario. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Patti,

My name is Jacqueline Reynolds and I live in Dunedin New Zealand. I am Richard and Margaret Attwoods many times great grand daughter. My information is that Richard was a bit of a lad and left home and was led astray so as a solution he joined the army and fought in Spain, Portugal and France and apparently fought in the battle of Waterloo. after which he returned to England only to be posted to Scotland. He married a (no proof) Margaret Ferguson whom my grandmother believed to be from Midlothian, Edinburgh. Next they were posted to Ireland and family legend is that this was a very rough time for him. They emigrated to St Johns, New Brunwick, Canada, where Margaret gave birth to Mary Elisabeth 12th May 1837. On one of Mary Elizabeth certificates it states that Richard was a musical director? Their were other children or a child but I have no names or dates. In Canada Margaret died of a fever. Richard return to England to his family. He was bereft and pined for his wife and died. Edward John his brother wrote a Dirge for his brother in 1842. It seems he and his wife raised Mary Elizabeth. Edward John Attwood was married to Elizabeth Hunt and they had a son, 15th June 1837. He was christened at Thainghon Church, Canterbury, Kent, England. He grew up to be a storekeeper as I believe Edward John was. He married Mary Elizabeth in St Margarets Church, Westminster, London, England on the 11th May 1862. they had one child before arriving in New Zealand.
My Grandmother believed that they arrived in New Zealand in 1864 and there daughter Julia Louise was born in 1865 Mornington, Dunedin where the family owned a store and had the first Post Office for the Suburb. Julia Louise married a Frederick Sourdon and they had four living daughters the second daughter Fredericka Isabella May was born 5th July 1893. She married Oswald Kennedy on 2nd of June 1913 and their third living child Dolsey Rewha Kennedy was my maternal Grandmother. I have more information and dates about George and Mary Elizabeths children and some of the cousins thereof which I am happy to pass on. I am at the moment trying to find out more on Richards travels and the background of Margaret Fergusons life. I hope this information was of some help. It is exciting to find such distant links to our emmigrating family history.

Looking forward to further information sharing,
Jacqueline Rewha Reynolds.

Re: Thomas Attwood (1849) Born Worcester

Keith, I have tried to contact you before. I have Thomas Attwood's Birth Certificate. He was born 6th October 1847, in Queenhill Worcestershire. His Father was William and his Mother was Sarah Fowler.
The problem with these census is that they only record what was given at the time. I found by chance that the 1851 entry found the entry Thos Atwood as him living in Queenhill.
I also have the marriage certificate which shows that the 't' missing in his name was a mistake. He married Ellen Hudd 11th May 1873. Her father was William.
Thomas is my Great Grandfather, my Grand Father was Albert his son born 12th August 1883.
I am Roger Attwood - email maisonnoire@btinternet.com
