Hi there, I am looking for information of a John Gillmor, born in Scotland around 1819. Married to Elizabeth, with a son born in the USA, named Robert. Do you have anyone like that wandering around your family tree? THANKS< Beth

My name is Careena Eggleston; I am logged in with a friend's account. I have been conducting research on the Aubrey/Aubry/O'Brey line as well. My family is French Canadian, my great grandfather was Frank III. His father, Frank II spoke fluent French. Tracing this line has been a bit trick due to changes in the name and there are two or three, separate Aubrey families traced back to locations in Quebec. Frank I was the son of Elias Augustin Aubry, I believe. My family has resided in New York, Massachusetts, possibly Vermont and Quebec province. I am happy to share the information that I have. My email address is cleggleston@hotmail.com; feel free to email if this sounds like there may be a connection.

Hi,
My AUBREY line were also in Victoria for some time, as well as Stanthorpe Q'ld. There was some mention that Lewis (Louis) AUBREY was born in France ie "de AUBREY"
There are many AUBREY descendants in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland.
Cheers, Lindilou

Don't know Leon or Henrietta, but our gggrandfather also was French Canadian and emigrated to New York State. we believe our French ancestor was Charles Philippe D'Aubry (note that there is no e in Aubry this far back). You can find information about him on the Internet.

Hi, I'm researching my husband's family "Aubrey". I can't find the parents of Leon Adelard Aubrey (married to Hattie, aka Henrietta). He was born "Canada French", immigrated to U. S. 1895 through Pennsylvania, BUT I was told the ancestors were "de Aubrey" from the west coast of France. Any suggestions?

Joseph Aubrey married to Mary Shoemaker or Mary Prewitt??

When I got my genealogy from my cousin Carol Anne in 1979 [and she had done some very extensive research] she stated that Joseph Aubrey/Awberry married Mary Prewitt, 14 July 1823 in Hardin County, KY. And we have been going with this every since.
In about 1999 my mother and I went to Springfield, IL and since it was so close to Missouri and we were going to have to rent a car while we were there off to Linn Co., MO we went. This is where Joseph and Mary had settled and raised their family. We meet with Mae Couch [expert researcher for Linn and Chariton Counties in MO]. Mae has written quite a few books on the area and taken some excerpts from local information. In one book were excerpts from the local paper. In it was the obit for Joseph Aubrey and it stated that his wife was Mary Shoemaker, they had 13 children and he died on 30 June 1889 in Linneus, Linn Co., MO. As Mary Shoemaker was not the wife I had listed I wasn’t sure what to do and figured that the person who gave the information made a mistake [something we see all the time]. Mary died 12 Feb 1875, Linn Co., Missouri.
In about 2005 my cousins Jan and Bart McKee went to Lexington, KY for a work conference and of course being genealogists they did some research. I sent the Joseph and Mary Aubrey info with them in case they tired of doing their own research. They came back with copies of the marriage records for Joseph Awberry and Mary Prewitt. So again I dismissed the Mary Shoemaker and just miss information.
And everywhere you go on the internet there is a Joseph Awberry married to Mary Prewitt. So of course it is right. But there is still in the back of my mind that maybe there was a 2nd marriage and that is where the Shoemaker came from. I did a search on Ancestry.com for marriages in Missouri for a Shoemaker and found nothing. Since I am pretty sure that Joseph didn’t go out of state to have a 2nd marriage I again dismissed it as a mistake.
Come 2010 and on a trip to Salt Lake City and a visit to the Family history Library and I looked at the micro film for Hardin Co., KY marriages and I looked for something about a Shoemaker marrying anyone and found nothing but there was the records for Joseph and Mary Prewitt. So again I dismissed Mary Shoemaker.
During this time I connected with descendents of Roland Awbrey [they live about 5 miles away as the crow flies] and Kathy stated that she thought that Joseph was the son of Roland and not Samuel as we had. Something to think about.
In January 2012 I found out Fold3 had War 1812 pensions online. I knew that Joseph had applied or a pension and so went looking for it and found it. And there in black and white was Joseph stating that his wife was Mary Shoemaker and they had married in 1820 in Hardin Co., KY. I know this is my Joseph because he is in Linneus, Linn Co., Mo in the 1870’s.
I have looked in the census for another Joseph Aubrey and can’t find him. There is a rumor that there was a Joseph in St Louis MO and maybe his son in California.
My Joseph is married to Mary Shoemaker even though there is no record so far in Hardin Co. KY. But who is his father Samuel [like I have] or Roland?? Where did the other Joseph and Mary go?? Are there 2 Joseph’s married to 2 Mary’s? And how do I prove it.

Looking for the old Aubrey Bible

I am looking for the old Aubrey bible which names all the children of William G Awbrey and his wife Elizabeth Chapman Awbrey. Two of his children were Edmond Sidney Awbrey and Julia Ann Awbrey. I think the bible was left in the hands of the McLendon family. I need a copy of the title page of the bible with the names of all the children for entry in the D.A.R.

Hi Mariah. I also have heard so many fanciful stories about the Aubrey Line in my tree!
The Aubreys that we have, originated from Wales and one of them David Charles AUBREY went to Newark New Jersey and became an American citizen but we have no record of any children from him in America. Some of them then came to Australia and also South Africa.
None of the names that you mention seem to be associated with me lot.
Good luck with your searching!
Lindilou

Looking for Elijah AUBREY/AWBERRY. He was born to Irvin AUBREY/AWBERRY and Mary KENNEDY abt 1873 in Linn Co., MO. Elijah is on the 1880 census living with Mary Awberry and his 3 siblings in Linn Co., MO. I can’t find him after that. I have found his 3 siblings Cordelia, Joseph and Laura. I have information on them. Any information on Elijah would be greatly appreciated.

Irvin was in Oregon by the 1880 census and he married Charlotte Melinda Nichols. I am descendent from this marriage. And as far as I can tell there was no divorce from Mary before the 2nd marriage.
Linda Aubrey
Sorry I have taken so long to reply. I did nothing on my genealogy for a number of reasons for a very long time. Now I am back into it and trying to catch up. My Father and "Archie" as he called him, had a repoir, when we were
visiting in Hudson Falls and a local bus would go by, he
would look to see if his friend was driving. Once in awile
he would say he was driving. My dad died when I was 7 and I
never really got to know many of the Aubrey family.

To Lindilou:

Anything is possible, but I am not aware of a South African or Australian connection. My ancestors emigrated to French Canada, and then to New England in the US. But members of the same family may have taken very different paths from France.

Hi,
I am Lynne Holland from Tasmania.
My late father-in-law was born William AUBREY on Durban South Africa in 1906 (later changed his name to BROWNLEY after leaving his first wife and 3 yr old son)
William had two sons. The first William David AUBREY b. 1932 in Qld,from his 1st marriage to Alice SKILTON and the 2nd son Robert William BROWNLEY b. 1942 to Mary Robina SIMPSON b. 1902 in Scotland.
His father was David Charles AUBREY b. 1882 in Emerald Hill. David Charles married Janet GARDNER b. 1876 in Scotland d. 1952 in Brisbane .
David Charles father was David AUBREY b. 1844 . I have a feeling that he was married in the UK before coming to Australia. He became a USA Citizen in 1876 and later came to Australia. In 1881 in Victoria married a Mary Ann WILLIAMS b.1853.
David's fathger was Lewis AUBREY who married a Barbara HOPKINS.
Does any of this info mean anything to you?
Cheers, Lynne Holland

Hi,
I am Lynne Holland from Tasmania Australia. My late father-in-law was born William AUBREY 0n 24/07/1906 in Durban South Africa. His family moved to Queensland Australia when he was a small boy. He married Alice SKILTON (they had a son William David AUBREY) whom he later left in early 1930s . William cut off all contact with his family when he left Alice to go and live with Mary Robina SIMPSON, born April 6th 1902 in Govan Scotland. After leaving his 1st wife he changed his surname to BROWNLEY. They had a son Robert William BROWNLEY born in Queensland in 1942.
Mary Robina SIMPSONs line is James SIMPSON & Elizabeth DRYSDALE - Alexander SIMPSON & Janet SIMPSON - David DRYSDALE & Susan McNEIL
Alexander GRAY & Mary Ann COOK - Alexander DRAY & Janet GREENLEES - Daniel COOK & May McALLISTER
William Snrs father was David Charles AUBREY b. 1882 in Victoria Australia. He married Janet GARDNER born in Scotland 2 Feb. 1876 . Janet's parents were Robert GARDNER b. 28 June 1860-61.& Christina BROWN 16 Feb 1845 married in Scotland 24 April 1874
Robert GARDNER's parents were Alexander GARDNER & Barbara BOYLE Christina BROWN's parents were William BROWN & Janet SIMPSON m.13 November 1836 in Scotland
David Charles father was David AUBREY born 1844 in Scotland who I think married twice. I think his 1st marriage was in Scotland His 2nd wife was Mary Ann WILLIAMS m in Australia.
David AUBREY's father was Lewis AUBREY who married Barbara HOPKINS in Scotland 23 January 1837 .
This all seems a little convuluted but does any of it make any sense in any of your research?
Cheers
Lynne Holland
I don't think so. My g-grandfather, John B. Aubry, from what I know from census records and from what my grandmother told me nearly 45 years ago, was that her John (her father) was born in upstate New York nearly all the way to Canada. He was born 1855-1858 or so. His father was born in Canada and his mother in New York (that was from census records) other records I have found indicate his father's name was Frank and mother's name Rose. I also have found out he committed suicide on Dec. 31, 1929 in Chicago.

I am trying to find out if he had any siblings and which line of Aubry's he came from and what his mother's line was.

This is what I know and I'm looking for a connection somewhere. G-Grandfather's name was John Aubry(or Aubrey). He was born in 1856-1859 in upstate New York almost to Canada (this is what my grandmother told me). His father's name was Francis(Frank) and his mother's name was Rose. (I obtained the Frank from John's death certificate and the Rose from the marriage information to my g-grandmother--Minnie Diggins). He lived in 1890 in Cambridge Mass and was a cabinet maker. Cambridge is where my grandmother was born. Around 1899 he and my g-grandmother split up. His new girlfriend or wife's name was Louise and she was from Canada she was a lot younger(born in 1875). They moved to Chicago at some point and they are on the 1920 census in Chicago. John died on Dec. 31, 1929 of a suicide. Trying to find out who his family was, etc.???

I have information on the Edward Aubrey i754 London England, that most northern NY Aubrey family stem from on my July2007 tree.Aubrey Corners Quebec was named for him, He lived near Rouses Point for a time but was a loyalist and returned to Canada. Also from The Genealogy of Edward Aubrey's Family in America by Rev. William Daniel Aubrey ,penned by his Granddaughter Elsie Z. Lewis , Metamora, Michigan, 1913
"Martha, the oldest, while still quite young, went to reside with relatives in Cornwall. Ontario. For some time she was employed as a housekeeper for a wealthy farmer named Farlinger, whose wife was an invalid. Mrs. Farlinger died while Martha was still there. There were five children, all small, and Martha continued to care for them and in the course of time she married Farlinger. The elder of the girls, Sally {Sarah}, married a preacher named {Duncan} Moody. The other two girls married as soon as grown up. There were two boys, James and Thomas. James, the eldest, was a farmer. Thomas liked boating best, and rose to the rank of Captain and was in command of the first steamer that plied between Montreal, Quebec, and Cornwall. Aunt Martha’s family consisted of six children, four daughters and two sons. The daughters all married and raised families. They were Mrs. Smallman, Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. Gardner and Mrs. McDonald. The two sons, Edward and Nelson, married and resided on farms in Glengary, Province of Quebec."
Martha Jane Aubrey b: Abt. 1792 Alburg, Franklin Co., Vt.
Nicholas Farlinger m: Abt. 1810
01-19-1888 Adelia Briggs, window of the late Captain Thomas Farlinger, died at the residence of Joseph Gardner, in Dundee, aged 71 years.
07-01-1881 Captain Thomas Farlinger, died at the residence of Joseph Gardner, in Dundee Quebec, Aged 76 years
01-08-1892 Catherine Farlinger, widow of the late Joseph Gardner, died at the Township of Dundee, age 62 years 101/2 months-Catherine is daughter of Martha and Nicholas.Sarah their other Daughter was at Baptism of your Nicholas and Her husband Duncan Moody was Minister.

Aubrey Cemetery, Old (Dundee)
There are two conflicting locations for an old cemetery at Aubrey's Corners that is now plowed under and disappeared. Described in a journal article by a family descendant as located 0.15mi (0.25km) SSE of the corners just on the west side of the jog in the McCaffrey Sideroad. (45.006N/74.455W) An old map shows another cemetery located just on the west side of the presently visible Aubrey Cemetery but the 1950s topo map shows no sign of it and there is no written reference to it. Which one is the "Old Aubrey Cemetery" is debatable.
Aubrey's Corners (Dundee)
Located on the Dundee Center Road where the McCaffrey Sideroad enters, close to where Fraser Creek crosses. (45.009N/74.457W) Named after Edward Aubrey who was an early settler in 1817 at that location. Also spelt Aubry's Corners.

Edward Aubrey, who came to US as part of British forces during the Revolutionary War and settled around Dundee, Quebec, Canada. He was married to Mary Carpenter, who was from around the Hanover, Germany area, but raised by foster parents (Lindsay) near Poughkeepsie, NY. We have located family for Nicholas, Peter and Joseph Sr (all of whom married Clark sisters) - who are 3 of his 14 children. His family scattered throughout Canada and northern New York initially in the early 1800's. We are looking for any further connections.

In the article on Aubrey's corners, by Stanley Currie, it states Edward Aubrey was born in England in 1754. He married Kate Sawyer and settled near what is now Aubrey, Quebec, which was named after him. About a year after the death of his first wife, Edward married Mary Carpenter (1766-1857)."

Francis Xavier Aubrey

Is anyone on this board related to Francis Xavier Aubrey? I have Aubrey as my middle name, as did my Step-Great-Grandfather, B. Aubrey Korf. He died when I was young. I have a letter writen by him, stating his Father and Uncle both had Aubrey as their middle names, but he did not mention their first names. The best I can tell, Their Mother was an Aubrey. Supposedly, she was a Sister to F.X. Aubrey.
The Korf's were in San francisco, San Jose, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Backersfield, Monterey, then a few towns in So. Calif, in that order.
B. Aubery Korf's Wife was Myrtle, posible maiden name of Jackson.
If anyone knows of this line, please help. Thank you.
