Joseph Austell b. 1810 Spartanburg area

This is not the Joseph Austell who died 1824 married to Nancy Littlejohn. My Joseph first married Nancy Sharp who gave birth to Joseph Austell Jr. and died shortly there after. My Joseph Austell later married Lucinda Gaffney. Joseph Austell born 1810 and Joseph who died 1824 are often confused with one another. I believe my Joseph to be a nephew of Joseph(died 1824). Could Amos be his Dad. Do we know all of Williams children. My Joseph stayed in Spartanburg....did not move to Tennesee. Can anyone help me sort out this genealogy puzzle. Thanks! I am searching for a Dicey or Dicy Austell or Austill born between 1825-1833 in Alabama (middle name is possibly Jane). She was married in 1857 (single, age 30) to a James Madison (widowed or divorced, age 36) in Edmonson Co., KY. His two youngest children, Rutha Jane and James W Madison are occasionally listed as her children, but likely born to his first wife Susan Blake (deceased mid-1850s). James (Wesley) Madison died in the 1890s and she was later married to a Joel Franklin Bledsoe.

Denise your Joseph is Joseph who married Nancy Littlejohn, who died in 1824 I think it was and has a well publicised will in Spartanburg. My Joseph was born abt 1910 first married Nancy Sharp though I havent found the wedding info just bible page and later married Miss Gaffney. We are very likely cousins....same names repeat each generation in the Austell's, makes our job a bit harder.

The Austell Cemetery is just outside Gaffney,SC. I think it is on Hwy 150 but not sure about that.
I have not visited it in several years.
Amos is one of Joseph's brothers.

I am Donna Holland, my Great Grandma was Nannie Austell from Spartanburg VA. I have some Bible pages on these Austells and have had a real hard time proving which Austell line she descends. So I have been proving which one she doesnt descend and learning by deduction. I knew that Sam and my Joseph were connected somehow but now I think they may be brothers. Joseph was born 1810 in SC and I believe Amos and Joseph who married Nancy Littlejohn to be brothers. Amos was in Joseph's will but declined to receive any of estate. He was certainly not his son as some have on their tree. Their birthdays are just a few years apart. These Austell came from St. Austell England, but the family seemed to pass down so many names that separating family and children has been quite a challenge. Anyway I found a recond showing Amos Austell in Gaffney SC for while and my Joseph later married Miss Gaffney, could this be a connection. Josephs birthday also fits into Amos's childrens dates nicely. I also have found Amos and Sam on land documents together over the years....are they brothers and son, or are they cousins? The Austell Cemetery is in Gaffney,SC near a school but I can't remember the name of the school. Joseph is not buried there I think William is the oldest one buried there.

my grandmother was Katie Austell. My grandad,who I never knew, was a doctor out in the Center,Oklahoma area.My mother married Hughie Chilcoat. My grandad on his side was Luther Chilcoat in Ada,Oklahoma.
I was curious if I had any indian blood in me from my Grandfather Austell's side. I always thought that Chilcoat surely had indian heritage but it's actually English. I guess it started as Chillicothe or something like that. So I wanted to check on the Austell side to see if I have indian heritage in my blood.

I have some photos that were taken of My Grandmother Mable Holland who was visiting her relatives in Washington but I need help with identifying the photos of her relatives and would love to connect the ancestry.

I descend through Joseph Austell born about 1810 who married Nancy Sharp who died shortly after childbirth of son Joseph C Austell who married Harriet Fant. I believe 1810 Joseph is likely the same Joseph Austell who later married Lucinda Gaffney. May I please recieve a copy of the same document. My great great grandmother was Caroline Francis Austell born in 1840 in Mississippi and married Joseph C Thompson from Coffee County TN. They moved to Texas and then Oklahoma. I believe her father was Littleberry and her mother was Mary and they moved to Tennessee when she was a little girl. They had Ida, Josie, Susan Daisy (my great grandmother) Georgia Anna, James Albert, Mattie and Nettie. I would appreciate any information I can get and I can share Susan Daisy's family. She married John Francis Caudle.

Looking for father of Robert Austill, born in 1887 in Alabama. He was the father of 5 children: Luther, Susie, Allie, R.B., and Lillian. He was living in Arkansas in the 1930's.

Allie was the father of Malcolm, Allie Jr. or Buddy, J.N. or (Curly), Bobby, Tommy, Billy, Patricia, David, and Jerry Austill. They lived in Covington, Tennessee.

I (Tim Austill) am Bobby's son. I live in Covington, Tn. also.

I am looking for Robert's father, which could be either Austill or Austell (could be a mispelling in the name). The 1930 census mentioned that Robert's father was born in Texas, but they may not be factual.

Can anyone give me the link that I need? Did Robert have brothers and sisters? This is as far as my line goes.

I have found what I needed to Join the DAR under Samuel Littlejohn. My Joseph was married to Nancy Littlejohn instead of Catherine.
Someone sent me a doucment from Virginia that named Joseph Austell as Samuel's son- in- law so that was the proof I needed. My mother was Agnes Austell from Earl, NC

William Wilkins marriedElizabeth Terrell Dec. 25, 1820. They had sixteen children.There daughter Jane Wilins married William Austell. They had to run away because they didn't have consent. They went to Dandredge, Tenn. The other children of William and Elizabeth married Gillenwaters, Littlejohns, Jacksons, Jeffries, Tollisons, Kirbys, Drapers, Golightlys, Goforths, and they were all located in the area between Spartanburg, and Gaffney. There is a small town on Hwy 105 or Wilkinsville Hwy, yes I think we are on the right track. My William Austell was born around 1778, if he was the same age as his wife, Jane Wilkins, Austell. His father was Captain William Austell, of the British Royal Navy. So that would make him born around the time of your William Austell of 1745.
Jane Wilkins brother Robert (Robin) Wilkins married Sallie Littlejohn and there children where Maty J. Wilkins, W.M. Wilkins, James R. Wilkins. So your Nancy Littlejohn 1798, will fit in all we have to do is find out where. I have a lot of input on the Lipscomb family. The Wilkins Cemt. is very close to Gaffney, (Wilkinville).Let me know which Lipscomb's and I'll look up and see if they connect. I would like the input you could give me on the Austell's. You said you live in that area. Oh, I wish I could be there a couple days, Just to check out the area. Oh, by the way these are my husband's people. I've worked on them so long they are my people now. My husband says I live in the 18/19th cent.

William Austell

My William Austell was born 1745 and married Amelia Terrill. I don't know much about then or where they are buried. Their son was Joseph and he married Nancy Littlejohn about 1798.

Their son was William Gilkey Austell born 5/26/1799 -died 12/26/1871. He and his wife Catherine Lipscomb are buried in Gaffney, SC

Next Generation is Joseph Hopson Austell born 8/24/1832 -died 8/8/1910 and he was married to Mary Jane Borders. They are buried at New Hope Church In Earl,NC

Their Son Oscar Forest Austell was my grandfather and he and his wife Mamie Lowery are buried at New Hope also.

My Mother was Agnes Austell Patterson married to William Hayne Patterson and they are both buried at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church here in Cleveland County, NC.

Let me know if you think there is a connection. I have DAR papers on the Littlejohn and Lipscomb lines in Washington,DC and should hear from them soon.

William Austell and Jane Wilkins, Austell moved to Dandridge, Tenn and had Alfred Austell that moved back to Spartanburg, SC and then To Atlanta, Ga. Alfred Austell was a banker and started several banks in Atlanta and surrounding areas. He has a town named after him, Austell, Ga. or Austellville, Ga. My Joseph was married to Catherine Littlejohn and they lived in SC. He had a son William Gilkey Austell who also live in SC(Near Gaffney I think as he and his wife are buried there in the Austell Family Cemetery)
I think Joseph's father was William but not sure.

Hi Bob! My wife is the grandduaghter of Lois Marium Austell, one of the sisters of the Louis Austell who was a son of Albert Gallatin (my wife remembers him as Uncle Louie). Louis had a son named Louis Jr. Was it Louis Jr. that you met by any chance?

I would love to see your information on the children of Littleberry Austell, as mine does not include a Robert Hugh. A Robert A.B. with no vital info, perhaps, but not a Robert Hugh. And my list of Littleberry's kids was put together from several sources. I have Caroline (ca 1842-?), Augustus B. (ca 1844-bef 1872), Annis (or Amos L) (10 Dec 1845-6 Feb 1929), Mary (ca 1846-?, Josafine (or Josephine) (ca 1848-?), Lucy (ca 1850-?), Dorah Allsoria (ca 1850-?), Savannah (ca 1853-?), William (ca 1855-?), Eliza (ca 1857-?), Albert Gallatin (29 Feb 1860-29 Oct 1940), Beulah (?-?), Robert A. B. (?-?). How does that compare to your info?

Amos Austell is still a blank. However, I have Lucy Bostick's family back about 4 or 5 generations. Do you need any of that?

I have information back to only Littleberry's father, Amos and his mother, Lucy Bostick. I do have some stories that I have gathered about the families' difficulty during the Cival War.

Marilynn, I have been looking for information on the Austells. My g grandfather was Jesse James Austell. His father was Richard Edwin Austell. There are also Swink's and Grays related to me. Betty, I don't have my gene. stuff with me but I think you and I are related. My ggg grandfather(?) was Joseph Austell. He , I believe, had a daughter that married a Gilkey. William Gilkey is listed in his will as a son-in-law. I have a copy of the will. I will try to bring my stuff to work tommorow and verify what I am telling you. I hope this is good news!
