My Name is Alicia Avitia - Glorioso, my mother her sister's and brothers were born in Canatlan Durango, My Grandfathers name is Guillermo Avitia and my Grandma Petra Reyes. I'm trying to locate reletative. I notice there are very few Avitia's outhere I recently live in California.

Hi, I have a lot of family in Culiacan Sin. and they also originated form Durango. My Grandfather was Antonio Avitia and my Grandmother was Maria De Jesus Avitia. I have been trying to find information on my family, but don't really know how.

My dad was born is Durango, He knows lives in chicago, there are alot of avitias in chicago Ill. Apperently the family hasa ranch in durango he goes every year. I live in san Diego CA... It would very interesting to know more......

Efectivamente, en la sierra de durango existen muchos Avitia, inclusive en días pasados en la TV pasaron un lugar muy frío en la sierra en donde abundaba el apellido Avitia.
Yo soy de Chih. del sur del edo, San Fco. del Oro, cerca de Parral, los ancestros de mi papá vivían en un lugar del valle de Zaragoza, chih., llamado el ancón de los avitia, sobre el río conchos.
en sinaloa debe haber muchos Avitia por la cercanía con Dgo. nada menos en Guasave, Sin hay varios Avitia.

I just started doing geneology on my husband's family and am looking for ties to his father. So far have determined through border crossing and census he started out as Leopoldo Avitia and was from Mexico. My husband had always been told he came from Durango, Mexico. He was born in 1895.
It is our understanding he was Apache. Am interested in any ttips that might be out there to further trace my husband's aancestry...his dad spoke very little about his background and died when my husband was ten.

He was always known to my husband (Lorenzo Melero) as Leopoldo Avitia Melero.

my great grandfather was braulio avitia. the siblings that we know of are: juan, jose, genaro and maria. they lived in the la area but moved to durango. do you know elena's maiden name?(wife of mariano)

I recently saw your post and, I to, am interested in finding out more about Charo Avitia's family. I've been told that my grandfather Pedro may be the father of Charro, but can not prove it. The story was passed down from my grandfathers brothers to my uncle Roberto. I can see the family resemblance in videos posted on Youtube.

I am looking for a Manuel Abeita born about 1812. His daughter's name is Barbarita (Barbara) Abeyta born 1835.
And a son named
Jose Dolores born 1850
married Maria Manuela Duran
child Maria Nieves
Manuel & Barbara were in a 1850 census in Socorro, Valencia. I can not find anything on him other that this. I know they moved to Abiquiu NM & Canjilon NM. That is were Barbara married Jose Antonio Maria Martin(ez)b:1830.
If anyone can help it would be great.

Hello, I have written before and because of not knowing much of my Avitia last name it's been hard to even know where to begin. My birth father was Pablo Avitia Sr. he was in or around 1932. One way I thought I could find reletives is my father was related to the singer El Charro Avitia. My father adopted, tells me stories of him and Pablo Avitia going to see El Charro Sing, and being taken out to dinner and sitting and talking with him. Meeting the Avitia family and more. Anyone out there related to El Charro that can share some Avitia Family History with me or a family tree?

My great grandfather was from Durango then moved to south Texas his name was Genero Avitia I heard of a story too that was passed on through relatives although I dont remember the whole story and has probably been twisted so many times by now. My grandfather Adulfo was the last of the Avitia brothers. My mom has a lot of information on the Avitia family. We don't have a family tree, but my mom has thorough information on the whole family including the siblings from a previous marriage. I can send you the information or anything else you may like. Hey whats up from culichi sinaloa have family all over Sinaloa. laguna colorada,El Atoron,sanchez celis,la cruz elota,sanalona,santa loreto,el tigre,navolato,cosala,san lorenzo you get the point.Grandfather was Jose Avitia Avitia and my grandmothers name was Rosalina Hernandez. My grandfathers siblings are Jesus,Lauriano,Lorenzo,Jouaqin Avitia Avitia.Grandmothers sister is Petra Hernandez.
my fathers name is Apolonio Avitia Hernandez was born in Tamazula Durango moved to Culichi when he was young his father was killed when he was about 8 i think they said he was shot.my aunt and uncles names are Manuel,Nativida,Amando,Emilia and Lydia Avitia. There is half brothers and sisters from my grandfather but dont
remember there names only seen them a couple times.

The photograph of the gravestone you have selcted belongs to my mom. Her last name is Avitia by marriage not by inheritance. She was married to my dad back in the mid 70s until her death. They met in Juarez, Mexico, but moved to the states and married. My dad's name is Jose Jesus Avitia and comes from a long line of brothers and sisters. He is a middle child and now currently resides in Tarrant County. All of my Avitia family comes from Durango, Mexico. I am Adulfo Avitia's grandaughter. My grandfather Adulfo passed away on 6-19-09. I stumbled on this site and saw your posting. We are the Avitia's from Tepehuanes as well. My grand father was Abel Avitia and lived in Los Pinos. My father is Juan M Avitia. We are now in Las Vegas. I may not know but I've defenitely have heard all those names you mentioned.

My family is from Sinaloa and originated in Durango. My grandfathers name is Miguel Avitia, and migrated to sinaloa from Durango when my dad was a child. I'm not sure from what part of Durango, but I can find out. As for Sinaloa, most of my family lives in Navolato and Culiacan. Its true, there are not too many Avitias around, I only know family members.

I'm your aunt Sandra, your mom Loida's sister. It was nice to get your posting and know that someone else is looking for information.

The information you have is all correct, as it should be right your mom would know. Pablo's twin sister was Paula. I never got to meet any of them as of coarse my mother Rosie died when I was only three months old. Loida and I never spoke of our parents and have lost touch.

But my adopted Mother Rebecca and father Cirilo have told me lot's of stories, and also have given photos and alway's made sure I knew of parents.

Rebecca was Rosies sister. I can go on and on but I'm not sure how much of that story you already know. I also learned family history from Robert Avitia who was Pablo's brother. He has passed away now, but his wife Ene has kept in touch with me.

Hi Renee and Sandra!

I'm Loida Avitia's youngest daughter Rosie. I would really like to know where our family originated from. My mom doesn't remember very much. This is the only information I know.

Pablo Avitia was married to Rosa Ibarra Avitia.
Pablo had a twin sister (name unknown).
Pablo worked for the railroads and they moved around alot.
Pablo had 5 children in the following order with Rosa:
Loida (born in Laredo, Tx), Paul (born in Michigan),Antonio, Samuel, and Sandra.

My grandmother Rosa died at a very young age from a cerebral hemorrhage.
Pablo (or Blue as some new him) just recently died in San Antonio, TX.

Hello guys.

My grandfather was from Durango, I don't from where exactly, but his name was Bonifacio Avitia and he got married with my grandmother Jovita Rueda.

Their sons and daugthers are:

Felix
San Juana
Maria del Refugio
Manuel
Felix
Teodulo

All that I know is that there were a fight in the family and then they went away.

If anyone has information or recognize Bonifacio Avitia name please contact me with details.

My grandfather, Ramon Quintero, is the son of Celerino Quintero and Lydia Rivera. Lydia is the daughter of a Rivera and Gamboa in Tepehanes, Durango. Any relations?
