Pawtucket Times - 7 August 1944
William H Aylward, Sr., husband of Mable E. (Church) Aylward, 299 Prospect Heights, died early yesterday after a brief illness. He was 78.
A native of Milford, Mass., he had lived in Pawtucket for 50 years. He was a member of the New England Order of Protection.
Survivors, besides his wife, include four sons, William H., Jr., of San Antonio, Tex.; Alford B. of Hoxie, Frank R. of Central Falls, George A. Aylward, machinist mate second class with the Navy at Camp Thomas; five daughters, Mrs. Estelle Brien, Mrs. Mable Anderson, Mrs. Mary Hunt, Miss Ruth Aylward, Mrs. Myra Wright, all of Pawtucket; one sister, Mrs. James Ray of South Weymouth, Mass., and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'colock at St. Paul's Church. Rev. Leon H. Plante, assistant rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

I am Liz's nephew. Actually Gertrude Mary Philip (b 1892) in your tree is Liz's mother, married to George Graham Aylward. Your tree mentions Frederick Julian Aylward - he was actually Frederick Graham Aylward, Liz's grandfather who married Annie Coates. If you have a look at my tree it includes a couple of generations prior to Anthony Aylward.

I'm sorry Elizabeth, but I don't think the Gertrude Mary AYLWARD on the tree of the family from Lockerley will be your mother Gertrude Mary. She was born in 1849 and married John Foote CHURCHILL in 1880, so her children's surname was CHURCHILL.

I currenly going through my fathers side of the family. Our name is Harvey. I came to a dead end at Harvey and followed up my great grand father who was married to a Bridget Prendergast. I was able to my great^4 grand father, but my great^2 grandfather had little info. Other his parents and one child I could not find much about him.

He was married to Maria Aylward. And I don't have much info there. They lived in the 1800s, possibly in Canada or Europe.

Hi janet, Unfortunately i didn't ever hear back from the person enquiring about Aylward/Pinkerton in the US and havent been able to track any link there. I havent come across a connection with Aylwards in Suffolk but will keep you in mind if I find anything.

Hi, my name is William (Bill) Enright of Salina, Ks. My grandfather was Edward F Aylward born 1881. His father was Michael Aylward born in Ireland (probably Co. Kilkenny) in 1853. His wife was Margaret(?) born 1858 in Massachusetts, which makes me believe that Michael probably arrived in the US via Boston. I am trying to locate other siblings of both. I have located a birth certificate of Michael Aylward born Sept 14, 1852 to John Aylward and Anastasia Londergan in Co. Kilkenny, but have no other documentation. I was curious if you have any additional information.

My husband's great grandfather was from Kilkenny and settled in Cincinnati. His name was Edward Frank Aylward, and he married Bridget Hayes, I think in Cincinnati. They had 5 sons (John, Phillip, Edward, Patrick and Richard) Phillip moved to Tennessee and John and Richard to Dayton, but Patrick and Edward stayed in Cincinnati. Do you know if they are related to your Aylwards that stopped in Cincinnati?

I am happy to look up anything you need in the info available to me. NZ Gov Archives only allow index for births over 100 yrs marriages 75 and deaths 50. However I do have access to other means which may be a help if you have some gaps or want schools or marriages outside the archive block. No promises that I can find them.
Aylward was not as unusual a name as I thought it was when I was growing up. There have been Aylwards here in NZ since the 1800s. I do remember my father saying he thought a cousin of his fathers might have come to NZ but I havent expanded my search that far yet. Too busy trying to find the direct line which seems to have been mostly situated around London.

I am really confused now! Jane Ladds Warren is in my family tree. After marryin John Kane/Kean she married my great uncle Thomas Aylward (eventually) and they had children both in NZ and tasmania. Then they went back to NZ and all the children married there.
Let me know if i can help with more info.

Hello Janet, yes I have her as married to Kane prior and another husband William Henry Kinnersley in 1872 in UK I actually have a lot of info on them, its just the 8 children she seemed to have to Aylward in Tasmania, then marriage in NZ after all that, that I'd like to check out.

I was searching some info I have on NZ bdm's and then went to NZ archives and found the above marriage on 16 August 1918. You will see the name of the bride is Jane Ladds Kane rather than Warren which you had. Not sure where this fits in but hope it helps.

Looks as though you have made contact with your direct line which is fortunate for you. I am happy to search information I have access to if you need confirmation of anything. There are certainly lots of Aylwards in NZ now but I have not found any yet who link with my family.
If anyone has a line that connects with Aylward (Elwood) in Suffolk early 1800s I would love to hear from you. My fathers family were mainly connected with the sea. A lot of them, including my father, were master mariners so could have ended up anywhere in the world.

Hello Janet......there appears to be 2 different families in NZ...one up in Sth Auckland, and the others Sth Island etc with Thomas Augustus AYLWARD being my direct line. He married Jan Ladds WARREN who is my gggrandmother's sister. Some query about which were born in NZ and Tasmania.....can you help me with this please......I'm in Australia.

she married Elmer Bell. Her father is Cornelius Aylward (10/1/1874 Cattawissa,MO- 4/5/1940 St. Louis,MO), he married Charlotte Henniges. I know this is an old post but I just read it. I would be very interested in information on the Toveys of Templeorum. My Tuffy ancestors are related and I visited Kilkenny and Tipperary this summer where I met Tuffy cousins. My Tuffys emigrated to the US via Canada in the 1840s. Patrick Tuffy, my 2x great grandfather stayed with Michael Tovey when he arrived in St. Louis about 1850. Thanks in advance-and I am very happy to share info about the STL branch of the Toveys. Aylward, he farmed near Niles, Kansas and died in 1957, he and his wife Mayme(Mary?)had 3 children Joseph, Charles and my mother Margaret.

Hello Pat, yes I remember you and I believe you had a sister Janice and a brother Mike. I communicated with your mother Norma a few years ago. She was a wonderful lady and sent me some pictures of my mother and father. I have recently been disabled and no longer able to work so I have started to try to learn more about my family. My name is Patricia Aylward OSullivan and I live in Wichita KS. I am originally from St. Louis, Andrew Aylward Family, There is a family of Aylwards in Ellsworth KS, Paul Aylward who is an attorney.
Joseph Aylward lived in Wichita and died leaving children, one being bobby aylward who raced cars and a daughter who left the convent, Mary or Margaret. They all live here, It is my understanding that we St Louis Aylwards were related as cousins to the family here in Wichita.

Cathy - I think I am a descended from the "missing" son of Partick+Bridget. His name is Patrick (b Ireland 1826-1831, died 1873 in Whitwick, Leicestershire, England). He married Bridget Myers (also from Ireland) in 1853 (also in Whitwick). This Patrick's father was also called Patrick.
At the same time as he lived Whitwick (a small place) there was also a Honora Aylward (a few houses away) who married John Monahan (1855 in Whitwick)- thus Patrick+Honora are almost certainly brother+sister. Honora later moved to the US with her children. One of whom (John) is buried in Troy, Renssalaer, NY. On his gravestone it gives the name of his mother/father + grandparents (Patrick + Bridget Barry, of Co Galway). Thus Patrick would see to be the "missing" brother and thus went to England not Australia

I am descended from a John Flanagan and Bridget Aylward. I am showing that Bridget Aylward was born in 1817 in Quebec City, Canada. Her parents were Richard Aylward and Elizabeth Walsh. We know they were from County Wexford, Ireland, because in Canadian marriage records, Bridget's sister Anne was listed as being from there.

Do you have any Aylwards in your family tree whose names match those above? Or that married any Flanagans? Or that were from County Wexford?

I cannot find an Enid AYLWARD's birth registration anywhere in UK between 1900 and 1910. There was a Rose AYLWARD registered in St. Olave's R.D. in 2nd quarter of 1904. She was daughter of James and Rose. In 1911 the family were living at 32 Westlake Road, Rotherhithe.

The body of Thomas J. Aylward, Spanish-American War veteran, will be removed to Falmouth, Ky., for burial, following requiem high mass at St. Xavier Church at 9 o’clock tomorrow morning.
Memorial services for Mr. Aylward, who died late Saturday at the residence of his sister, Miss Margaret Aylward, 433 East Third Street, where he had made his home for the last 25 years, will be conducted tonight by Harry C. Egbert Camp, United Spanish War Veterans, at the J. J. Sullivan funeral home, 413 Broadway.
Born in Falmouth, Ky., Mr. Aylward, who was 61 years old, fought in the Spanish-American War as a member of Company K, Fourth Cavalry, which was stationed in the Philippines. He saw three and one-half years of service.
Mr. Aylward was employed at the Louisville & Nashville Railroad freight depot for more than 15 years, ending approximately a year ago. He was ill nine months before his death.
Besides Miss Margaret Aylward, another sister, Mrs. Mary Coleman, Mount Auburn, and a brother, Keyran Aylward, Norwood, survive him.

I'm researching my Flanagan ancestry,and i'm hoping someone out there might find the connection to the Aylward's of Kilkenny.

I've looked up the 1901 irish Census, with my great Aunt Jessie Flanagan the neice to Michael Aylward.

The 1911 Irish Census states this Michael and Fanny had 11 children,but 10 children alive, and married for 33 years.
