Debbie, while I don't know Dorothy, I do know
Anna/Anne/Annie Ayre b. 1878 in County Durham,
Eng. to George Ayre and Maria Davison Ayre.
She had an older brother named Thomas, also
born in Eng. and several younger siblings born
after the family immigrated to Mich. via
Canada soon after Anna's birth. Anna was born
at Lark House in "old" Cornsay, Co. Durham.
Might she be related to your Dorothy?

This is the first lead I have had. My grandfather died when my mother was 4. His parents (Dorothy Ayre Otis Henry Shaw) did
not keep in contact with the family after his death. Can you advise as to where I could locate this info you have?

Hello Michael, I'm finding it rather difficult to trace where in England my G Grandfather Charles Ayre, married to Hannah Blockely came from. They arrived in Australia about 1872 with two children, my Grandfather born on board ship. Charles apparently came from a family involved in the mining industry. Be great if you can help.

Ayre vs. Ayres

Michael do you have any idea if in England Ayre and Ayres are the same family. I am in US, and found variations Like AYARS,ARIS,etc. but the most dominant spelling was AYERS, in the 1790 census. In England do they get mixed up also. Don
