grandmother's maiden name

I am looking for any information on my Grandmother, Elsie Ayrey. It is spelled with an additional "y", and any searches I have made on this name has come up empty. I am curious if there is a reason why there is a different spelling.

Elsie Ayrey

Could it be possible that your grandmother's proper name was Eliza? My great-grandmother's maiden name was Eliza Alderson. She married William Ayrey in 1892 and had 4 children.

My grandmother's name was Eliza. She married William in 1892. It would have been nice if this was the same lady but sad to say it is not. Thank-you for your input. I have found that the Ayrey name is rare in the world except England.

Thank-you again for your response.

In my copy of the family bible there is no Frank Ayrey but I know it is not complete. It only has from William and Eliza forward. I do have some information that I have been able to find on my own.
Robert Ayrey (b1831- d?) married Mary Midgely (no dates)
had
William Ayrey (b1869 in Bradford-d1943) married Eliza Alderson (no dates) married March 13, 1892, lived in Darlington then moved to Canada -
had 4 children one of whom is my grandfather
William Ayrey (b1902 in Darlington d1982) married Laura Webb.
any help would be appreciated. I have been looking for over ten years on my own and have come with little information.

James Alderson who married Jane Mafham and then Clara Robinson fits into our family tree. James being a great great grandfather on the Alderson side.
All that I have on the Ayrey side is William Ayrey born in Bradford(1869) and an older brother Robert who remained in England and lived at Newcastle Upon Tyne. Their father's name was Robert Ayrey (born 1831)AT Keighley was married to Mary Midgley.
Most of the postcards I have have the last name of Ayrey, but afew have Ayre and one has Airey.
I do have about 80 photos from about the 1880 to 1920 eras, but most are unidentified. One photo is of T Bates.

Sounds like we share a grandmother. I assume you are John's daughter. If so, I'm your cousin Robert. Don't think we've ever met.
