Sale price on DNA tests

Hey folks,

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA.com) has notified Project Administrators of a great sale BUT it's only 48 hours. These prices will expire at Midnight Saturday. It's a great time to get involved in DNA for genealogy or upgrade your current markers. The copy and paste lost something in the "copy and paste" but I think you'll get the idea. The first number is the usual price, the second number is the sale price. Some of these items are rarely on sale.

New Kits

Current Group Price SALE PRICE
Y-DNA 12 $99 $59
mtDNA $99 $59
Y-DNA 37 $149 $129
Y-DNA 67 $238 $199
Family Finder $289 $199
mtFullSequence (FMS) $299 $249
Y-DNA 12 mtDNA $179 $118
FF Y-DNA 12 $339 $258
FF mtDNA $339 $258
FF Y-DNA 37 $438 $328
FF mtDNAPlus $438 $328
Comprehensive (FF FMS Y-DNA 67) $797 $657
Upgrades
Y-DNA 12 $89 $59
mtDNA add-on $89 $59
Y-DNA 12-37 Marker $99 $69
Y-DNA 37-67 Marker $99 $79
Y-DNA 12-67 Marker $199 $148
mtFullSequence upgrade (HVR1 to Mega) $269 $199
mtFullSequence upgrade (HVR2 to Mega) $269 $199
mtFullSequence add-on $289 $219
Family Finder add-on $289 $199

Let me know if I can do anything to help you get signed up.
I am looking for family of William Bach who married Hannah Ransopher in Cambridge, Ohio on 24 Sept 1860...they had 2 daughters. Julia b. 1860 and Sarah J. b. 1862. The only information I have found is above! Hannah married later to Arehart Yeager and had 3 children. I see you have a William Bach in your family tree. I am hoping this is my William. I can't even find Julia and Sarah's birth certificates. I am new to this internet search....Thanks for any help you might have for me. Maybe this will give you more information on your line too!
Bach family in Detroit

Looking for members of the Bach & Tessmar (Tessmer) families in Michigan. Pauline Tessmer married Frank Bach around 1885. Frank (Franz) and Pauline immigrated with Albert in 1892. They married when Albert Tessmar (Bach) was 4 years old and lived in the Detroit, MI area. Another family member was "Tillie." Albert had a half-sister named Antonia who married Frank Krause. Albert married Martha Porzondek. Pauline died October 1945.

It is possible that Pauline Tessmer previously immigrated in 1869 with other family members when she was 18-19 then returned to Germany/Prussia.

Jacob Back of Wayne County Kentucky

Interesting news has been received by the “Bach to Back” DNA Project at Family Tree DNA. We have been contacted by an individual who claims descent from Jacob Back of Wayne Co KY. A male descendant was DNA tested by Ancestry.com a few years ago and he was given the information that his haplogroup is R1b. Now this is interesting indeed. The two current participants in the Bach to Back DNA Project have both been found to be of another haplogroup.

We need for a descendant of Jacob Back of Wayne County Kentucky to join the project and have his DNA tested to verify this preliminary information. It is always best to have at least two people from a line tested in cases like this where the findings seem to dispute formerly held theories.

Still looking for descendants of all other Back/Bach lines which migrated from Virginia to Kentucky very early. Be sure to join our project before ordering a test because the cost is a little less through a surname project.

Karen Back Simmons
Bach to Back DNA Project

"Bach to Back" DNA Project early results

The new “Bach to Back” DNA Project at FTDNA for Eastern Kentucky Bachs and Backs is off and running with two participants who have completed testing and have been found to be a very close match.

Kit # 68731 is a proven descendant of James Back and Nancy Back who married in Fayette County Kentucky on March 9, 1812. Estate documents prove that Nancy was the daughter of Joseph Back who died in 1834 in Garrard County Kentucky. We have ordered but have not yet received copies of the documentation but have found information that their marriage bond was signed by Harmon Back, leading to a very strong theory that Harmon Back Jr. was James’ father. This subject’s great grandfather was William Berriman Back who was prominent in the history of Montezuma Well in Arizona which is now a National Parks Monument.

Kit # 195252 is a proven descendant of John Back and Catherine Robinson Back both of whom died in Breathitt County Kentucky. The test subject’s father was born 1908 at Stevenson near Quicksand Creek in Breathitt County Kentucky, the son of Joseph Lee Back and Mary Jane McIntosh.

Both of these DNA participants have tested 37 markers and have also had the Deep Clade testing. The advanced Deep Clade test was necessary because the first 12 markers of the standard test did not yield enough information to place them in a haplogroup. We now know that both subjects are E1b1b1a3, V-22. This is a very rare haplogroup for folks north of the Alps in Europe but it does occur. We hope that this rarity will make it easier to confirm the earlier origins of our line.

We need more test subjects to advance the project. We are particularly interested in recruiting men who descend from the following:

Harmon Back, died 1798 Garrard Co., Kentucky
Henry Back and Susannah Maggard of Letcher Co., Kentucky
John Back, Revolutionary War Soldier died 1840 Monroe Co., Indiana
Joseph Back died 1834 Garrard Co., Kentucky
John Back died 1834 Wayne Co., Kentucky
Anyone else with an all-male Back or Bach line from Eastern Kentucky or Virginia

For the purposes of this study, we especially would like to hear from descendants who have gathered the actual documentation proving their descent. Although published books may contain a lot of good information, they are not considered to be proof. The published books can be an excellent road map for locating such documentation as wills, marriage records, and deeds. Census records are also good forms of proof.

We want to hear from you even if you have not yet gathered the proofs. It’s possible that someone else already has them and will share. You can also go ahead and order a test and gather more proofs while you’re waiting for results.

The cost of DNA testing is less when the kits are ordered through a Family Tree DNA Project so be sure you join our project first, then order your kit through the project. The test is very easy and completely painless. You just swab the inside of your check four times and mail it back in the envelope provided. It takes a few weeks for the lab to test your sample and send you the results. Female researchers can recruit and pay for tests for brothers, fathers, or male cousins. Several family members can also share the cost of a test.

Looking forward to hearing from folks interested in this project.

Karen Back Simmons
Project Administrator
Bach to Back DNA Project
gtskjs@gmail.com
New DNA Project "Bach to Back"

I’m looking for Back or Bach relatives descended from Eastern Kentucky Back or Bach who are interested in DNA testing for genealogy. There has long been several theories as to the ancestry of the Backs of Eastern Kentucky. We all agree that they came to Kentucky from Virginia. We also believe that all of them are of German ancestry. But beyond that, there are several different stories. There could be several different lines who settled in Kentucky, or maybe just different information. It’s very possible that we just need to pool our information in order to see the big picture.

Testing the male YDNA has become a very good tool for solving such mysteries. I am a co-administrator of another surname project and have just started one for our Kentucky/Virginia Back/Bach line(s) named “Bach to Back.” The link for the webpage for this project is

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Bach_to_Back/default.asp...

or you can link direct from www.FTDNA.com and searching for either Back or Bach.

Test subjects would need to be from an all-male Back line. In order words, they would have to a Back or Bach male, as well as their father, grandfather, great grandfather, etc. There can be no adoptions in the direct line. That is because YDNA is only passed down by males to males. There are other DNA tests for women but they are not effective for determining surname roots. There is a lot more information posted on the Family Tree DNA website, FTDNA.com.

We already have two participants who have completed testing and are a match to each other. Those results will be explained later in a separate posting.

The ultimate goal is to locate Bach participants still living in Germany or recent immigrants to the U.S., who would be expected to be a match to our line. According to the existing theories, those persons could be from Thuringia or Freudenberg or possibly an area that has not yet entered the picture. This project would also be helpful to folks descended from the Garrard, Madison, or Wayne County Kentucky Backs and to anyone who is uncertain whether or not they are descended from “The Old Backs” who came into Kentucky from Virginia around 1800 We would love to see participants still living in Virginia who are allegedly of German stock, descended from pre-American Revolution immigrants.

Please let me know if you have any interest in participating in this project. Because women cannot be the actual test subjects, they often recruit and order tests for their male relatives such as a brother, father, cousin, or nephew.

Karen Back Simmons
Descendant of John & Catherine Back of Breathitt Co KY
Project Administrator
Bach to Back DNA Project
gtskjs@gmail.com

I found Louise B's history in November 2009 and tried to contact her with updates without success. My mother, Gertrude Bach White, was quoted in the Simon Bach and Anastasia Benz history.

I would LOVE to get copies of the two photos contained in Louise's writeup, to add to the ancestry wall in our home.

To Peggy Clark,
I do not know what happened to Howard T. Bach. I do have parrtial family group sheet on the Ernest Bach nd Josephine Linton family of Martinsville, Illinois, as collateral ancestors. Ernest Edward Bach was b. in Hutsonville, Ill. in 1868, the son of German immigrants from Saxony. I have researched the family in Martinsville. Please let me know if you would like to exchange information.
Marjorie Mota

Bach Family - Chicago, Illinois

Hello,

I am looking for any information regarding the Bach family in Chicago. My father is Carl Milton Bach (born in December of 1939 or 1940). His father was Milton Bach (born around 1916). Milton's parents were Jens and Marie (from Denmark). My grandfather, Milton, had epilepsy and ended up dying in Manteno State Mental Institution. Jens and Marie also had daughters Eleanor and Dorothy.

I am most interested in Carl's mother. Our only record is that her name was Sylvia Bauch (but I am not completely sure).

Feel free to reply here or directly to martincbach@sbcglobal.net.
