Re: Bacher Family - Ohio

I see that you folks who have descended from Jacob are running into much of the same identification problems that I am having as I'm working on a fellow who I believe likely to be his brother, and if not a brother, then either an uncle, or a cousin.

I descend from Nicholas Bacher(t) who died in Columbia County, Pennsylvania in 1824. Evidence shows that he was the Nicholas Bacher(t) who settled near the Ben Salem Church area of old Northampton County, in old Penn Township, in what is now the southern tip of Carbon County, near the village of Andreas.

I believe that my Nicholas was likely a 1st cousin to the Nicholas Bachert from Albany Township of Berks County. This belief is not a new one, and is supported by the 1910 report of Frank Allaben to Augustus Ellsworth Bachert. Augustus was also a great-grandson of my Nicholas.

Alleban believed that my Nicholas was the son of a Jacob Bacher(t) or Baucher(t) who had also settled for a time in Albany Township, but removed from there to Lynn Township of old Northampton County (now Lehigh) shorly before the American Revolution.

I believe that it is strongly likely that your Jacob and my Nicholas may have been brothers. I also believe that your Jacob, like Nicholas, can be found on Northampton County Militia rolls from the Revolution.

Alleban also noted the Braucher/Broucher families of the area, and concluded that it was unlikely that they were directly connected to the Bacher(t) lines, but noted that it might be worth someone's while to investigate further.

Of course, it's one thing to believe something, and something completely different to be able to support the belief via documentation. I'm hoping to spend some time in Easton in a couple of weeks to see if I can bring some resolution to the matter(s) at hand.

I descend from Nicholas this way:

Joe Hittle
son of Alferd Wesley Hittle (1915-1990-
grandson of Iden Monroe Hittle (Sr) (1876-1952)
g-grandson of Joseph Wesley Hittle (1849-1883(
2g-grandson of Joseph and Magdalena "Mary" (Bachert) Hittle (1809-1875)
3g-grandson of Anthony (ab. 1785-ab. 1853) and Catharine (Ebner) Bachert
4g-grandson of Nicholas (? - 1824) and (likely) Susannah (Bock) Bachert.

{note: Magdalena "Mary" (Bachert) Hittle was baptized at Ben Salem in old Northampton County according to Lutheran Records there)

Hope this helps along the way.

Joe

Bacher is not a Jewish name at all, there are some Jewish Bachers which are the result of an earlier interfaith marriage and got perpetuated that way. If I am not mistaken, it is primarily important with the Jewish religion that the mother is Jewish and the faith is passed down to her children. Otherwise Bacher is a common German and Swiss surname, fairly numerous in Europe

Hi Barbara

Some Time back as part of my USA research into the Wildsmith family I found reference to a Daniel Wildsmith, after much frustration I discovered he was in correctly recorded and was in relatity Daniel Wildermuth.Again after much deliberation and further research beleive that both the Wildsmith family from england and the Wildermuth Family of Germany appear to have many similarities and the families may have long ago lost ancestors. Do you happen to have any images of the family that I amy be able to include as part of my compliation into the 5 volumes of the Wildsmith family history.

Regards Bob

Hi I am researching the Name of Wildsmith, which has led me to a variant in Ohio of Wildermuth. as part of my research relates to Daniel Wildsmith (Wildermuth) and Emma Neff. I have been able to establish a fair dosier on the Wildermuth Family in OHIO except the wife of Soloman whom was the father (so I beleive from Census) of Danial, william, John etc.

The Catherin mention above would be Catherin Bacher I would imagin. Do you know or have any suggestions where she may have been married as the nephews of your ancestor I am assuming she married Soloman Wildermuth

Appolonia Bacher (b 1729) of Ebenezer, GA

I believe that my ggggg-grandmother was the Appolonia BACHER (b1729), who is listed as an emigrant child in the household of Thomas and Maria BACHER on the Second Salzburger Transport aboard the Engish Vessel, Prince of Wales, Captained by George Dunbar...The name is spelled BACHER on the original listing but sometimes rendered Backer/Bakker/Baker in later Ebenezer Records...The Second Transport arrived on 29 December 1734. Grandmother Appolonia's older sister, Maria Bacher, married Balthasar Reiser at Ebenezer, ca1750, and a Reiser couple were "Sponsors" at the Baptism of Grandmother Appolonia's two youngest children.

Grandmother Appolonia was married to Grandfather Hans Ulrich Gyger, an emigrant child from the Canton of St. Galen, in Switzerland, but we have not heretofore been privy to her surname...According to HuxFord's Wiregrass publications, Grandfather Ulrich was a Revolutionary Soldier and his surname was incorrectly spelled Kegar in one land grant document, then Anglicized as Geiger/Giger/Gigger/Gieger and sometimes Grigger because of the harsh gutteral Switzerdeutsch dialect which they spoke.

Would like to correspond with other researchers who may have additional information on this family's surname.

Grace, I would like to hope there is a connection here. I pulled a lot of birth & marriage records info from the LDS family Search for Bachers in Zircz, Veszprem. There seems to be a steady line going back to the 1740's thru 1867. I could not find anything sooner. I also have letter from Zircz from a Sandor Hebling in Zircz, a relative that talks about a lot of the family. My Grandfather also came with family. Some came later. Brothers & Sisters were Amelia, Frank, Victor, George. I have wedding picture. Grandparents were married in Holy Trinity (Catholic) Church in Passaic in 1916. Maybe some are relatives? Please e-mail me direct ( LJF2001@aol.com)so we can go into more details.

My Grandparents, Jonasne Katy (Kratky) Bacher emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1913 from Zircz, Austria- Hungary. They were sponsored by my great uncle, Anthony Kratky, who owned a butcher shop in Passaic, New Jersey. I have documentation that the name was Bacher on some of the immigration documents. They later changed the name to Pacher and/or Packer; I guess to Americanize it. They later moved to Roxborough, Phila. PA. They spoke Low German and Hungarian or Magyar. My grandfather worked as carpenter foreman at the Container Corp. of America And his nickname was Baker So he must have used Bacher for his employment. His Mother was Magdalena,His brother was Charles and his sister was Rosa; They also emigrated to the U.S.A.

He was born in Wasserburg, Bavaria and married Maria Sommerer, also born in Wasserburg.

Their oldest child, also named Thomas, is my grandfather. He was the oldest of 14 children. He was born September 2, 1890 in Wasserburg and died December 3, 1963 in Chicago (in front of Wrigley Field) at the age of 73. He married Anna Aulbach who was born in New York City on January 7, 1895 and died in Chicago on December 7, 1990. I met one of his brothers (George who lived in New York State) and one of his sisters (Anna Wagner-Niles who lived/lives in Arvada CO).

Sounds like we are cousins!?!

I am looking for information on the Bacher family in Bavaria, Germany. My great-grandfather's name is Thomas Bacher. He was born August 22, 1859 and died December 22, 1914 in Edling, Bavaria. He was married to Maria Sommerer on April 14, 1890 and they had 14 children. I would appreciate any information that anyone would have. Thank you.

Baker/Bacher/Becker

I am trying to locate where the family of John Baker came from in Germany. According to the US censuses of different years, he and his children were born in Germany, Baden, Old Bavaria, and the Rhein Valley. Family legend has it that it could be Storchhof
John b. June 21, 1781
Conrad b. 1817 (son)
John date unknown (son)
Henry b. March 6, 1818
another son (name and date unknown)
Mary Anna Walter b. March6, 1884 (wife of Henry)
Catherine b. April 2, 1846 (daughter of Henry and Mary)
Catherine (nee unknown, as well as dates, wife of younger John)
another unknown daughter-in-law (wife of unknown son)
They emigrated together between 1846 and 1848. I don't know where they left from or which port they came to, but they were in Kentucky before going to Harrison Co., IN, and then on to Crawford Co., IN.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mary
