These are from my familytreemaker program. I'll share publically--why not.
My connection is through Matthew2

Some individuals were explored further than others; but hopefully this will answer some of your questions

Generation 1

1. HENRY3 HATCH (MATTHEW2, ELISHA1) was born 1762 in Hillsdale, Columbia Co, NY, and died July 10, 1817 in Granville, Washington, NY. He married RHODA CRIPPEN 1787. She was born 1760, and died September 28, 1824 in Granville, Washington, NY. Inter in Bethany Cemetery (aka Truthville Baptist Church) Cemetery, North Granville, Washington Co, NY

Children of HENRY HATCH and RHODA CRIPPEN are:
2.i.PATIENCE4 HATCH, b. 1787, Whitehall, Washington Co, NY; d. Freetown, Cortland Co, NY.
ii.POLLY HATCH, b. 1789; m. RUFUS MCDONALD; b. 1788, NY.

3.iii.	AURILLA HATCH, b. 1791, Granville, Washington County, NY; d. 1869, Michigan.
iv.	LAURA HATCH, b. 1795; m. RUFUS WHITNEY; b. 1801.

Notes for LAURA HATCH:
Rufus Whitney listed as spouse of Laura in the settling of Henry Hatch affairs dated 1827.
However, other researchers who have Rufus posted to their trees list Rufus with 3 wives--however, NONE list Rufus with Laura as one of the wives.

4.v.	JAMES HATCH, b. July 23, 1797, Granville, Washington Co, NY; d. June 09, 1882, Allen Co, IN.
5.vi.	DAVID HATCH, b. November 05, 1799, Whitehall, Washington Co, NY; d. July 18, 1846.
vii.	HARRY HATCH, b. 1807.

Generation 2

2. PATIENCE4 HATCH (HENRY3, MATTHEW2, ELISHA1) was born 1787 in Whitehall, Washington Co, NY, and died in Freetown, Cortland Co, NY. She married TIMOTHY BACKUS, son of JOHN BACKUS and JERUSHA BAKER. He was born 1783 in Granville, Washington County, NY, and died March 18, 1830 in Freetown, Cortland Co, NY.

Children of PATIENCE HATCH and TIMOTHY BACKUS are:
i.	BENJAMIN5 BACKUS, b. 1812.
6.	ii.	LYDIA BACKUS, b. February 24, 1814, Freetown, Cortland Co, NY; d. November 15, 1855, Waukegan, Lake Co, IL.
iii.	JERUSHA B BACKUS, b. August 02, 1818; d. October 12, 1865, Whitewater, Walworth, Wisconsin; m. GEORGE PIERCE; b. August 15, 1814, Cortland, Cortland, NY; d. June 19, 1880, Whitewater, Walworth, Wisconsin. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Whitewater, WI

Notes for JERUSHA B BACKUS:
Rather than list children on regular family sheet, will do this:
Julia Ann Pierce 1839- 1914
Caroline Eliza Pierce 1842- 1900
Laura Pierce 1845-1847
George Henry Pierce 1846-1919
Charles Rufus Pierce 1851-1889
Frank Edward Pierce 1855-1922

iv.
Checked my disk copy, but among the 8-10 Abigails (+abby) in index found none listed born after 1761. One of latest also had daughter Abigail (not indexed), born 1793, but not a fit. Index thus not always complete, but hard to ferret out single names not listed. Suggest if you haven't, try the US census records for 1850 back to 1790. Possible there might be updating to the book or in private files. Maybe others might help your cause given time on the message board. Good luck.

I just read your post of four years ago. I am looking for information about the ancestry of Abigail Backus, who was born in 1783 in Massachusetts and died in 1857 in Sandusky Co., Ohio. She married 1) Michael Walter and 2) Joseph Kinne. Could you tell me if she is mentioned in The Backus Families of Early New England mentioned in your post?

I'm looking for the Fred Backus who was born abt 1863 in New York. The story was that his parents died, and he was adopted. I did find a Fred Backus in the Rochester Protestant Orphan Asylum in 1870. If this is him, I can't find him until the 1900 census in which he is married to Theressa Harran of Saginaw. They had many children, but Elizabeth Belle Backus married Floyd Helsel. Fred Backus died October 19, 1946 and is buried in Lake City, MI. If you have any information, please contact me!

Is there any possible way we could meet? I am the grand-daugther of Clare Backus and daughter of his son Wayne Backus. I grew up in Grand Ledge, MI and knew James Backus. I have been working on that Backus family geneology for about 4 years, and have a lot of data. The original Simeon bible pages may be hard to obtain, but the work of the researcher who saw them and recorded the data can be trusted. Unfortunately, he died last year. I will be contacting his family later this year. I live in East Lansing and work in downtown Lansing. I would like to meet you or at least talk by phone so we can share more information. I have a lot, and am glad to see there is someone else from Herman's family who is doing research. Please contact me.

I found a social security death index for Barbara I. Arbour who died in Palo Alto, Santa Clara, CA, on 4 Dec 1998. Since she was born and died in Santa Clara County, it's a good guess that she was married there, too. Have you contacted the Santa Clara County Clerk? They might be able to tell you the date of her marriage.
Good luck.

I and the other two people (cousins) on this thread are aware of the sister, Lydia, to our ancestors(among 8 siblings), and have, at least, the beginnings of her family of descendants in our charts. Tim and Patience Backus are pretty well accounted for, as Tim died in 1830 while the family was still in Freetown, NY, and Patience was found in the 1840 or 50 census living near Ravenna in Portage Co, Ohio, with one of her youngest daughters Lura, who was married to a Stough. Lydia and Hiram West had eight children of whom only one has records of descent to about 1936, beginning with a Lucy, b.1840. I can refer you to Barbara Weakley for any updates on that, and we can both also go back in history along the ancestral Backus line for several generations.

Hello,

Do you have any information on Lydia H. Backus? She was born about 1815 in New York state and her parents were Timothy Backus and Patience Hatch. She married Hiram West b.1812 and then moved West. I found them in Illinois in 1850. No luck finding her parents that year though. Thanks.

Hello,

I may have already responded to this message. I lost most of my research to a hard disk crash (no, I did not have it backed up).

My father was Thomas Edward Backus, son of Thomas Rennels Backus, son of Thomas Jefferson Backus, husband of Fannie Francis Shellnut (Shelnut).

Look forward to hearing from you or again from you if we have corresponded in the past. I would like to start gathering some information again. I was a little discouraged by the amount of info I lost, but guess I'll just have to start collecting it again. Hopefully I've learned from my mistake and will at least make hard copies of everything I get.

I went into the DAR on William in Apr of 1986. In looking at my papers, I have a copy of the deed recorded 18 Sept 1809. If was for the 400 acres of land purchased from Simon and Margaret Cochran by deed recorded 12 March 1807. Land was surveyed 18 Sept 1795 and was received by Simon Cochran by land patent by virtue of a certificate in right of settlement 26 March 1800. The 400 acres he was granted must have been adjoining to or in the same area of the land he sold to John G. Jackson.

In the documents I used for DAR, the spelling ranged from Bacchus, Baccus, Backas, Backues and Backus. William and Mary both made their marks so not being able to read or write, maybe only English or not at all, and/or the Americanization of European made it a challenge.

I was back in the area in the late 1970's and early 1980's but unfortunately I didn't have all the info that I have now so I didn't find everything I could have.

Kay
