Hello,
Thank you Harlan, and the others, that replied to my query.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, my GGG Grandmother, Elizabeth Bagge, gives her birthplace as Prussia.

In general, was Bagge ever considered a German surname?
She married one Johan G. HENDRICKS, once she was in Cincinnati, and he was born in Alfhausen, Germany, on the Dutch/German border.

Do any of the peoples in the Southern area of Denmark speak German? Or at any time in the past?

Thank you,
Cathy in Chicago
P.S. Does anyone else get the "helpful" hint, "did you mean Baggage?" when doing an internet search? It drives me CRAZY
lol :0

Hi Cathy,
My research on the Bagge family is only on my ancestors in Norway. Specifically in Nordfjord and Sunnhordaland (Hardangerfjord) and covers about 1350 to 1650. May have come from Denmark but not sure.

The name appears in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, England, but most are not related. Sorry I cant help you. A curious thing though, there were Viking incursions along the whole north coast of Europe including what used to be West Prussia from the 800s on and what if (pretty big if) your Elizabeth was a descendnt of them. I have Viking age relatives buried in Normandy (went to their graves a few years ago). Doubtful but interesting non the less.
Good luck with your research,
Regards,

Harlan Hegdal

Hi
Myname is Harlan Hegdal. I live in St. paul, Minnesota. I have been attempting to research the Bagge family in Norway for many years. Iam descended from Helge Bagge who lived in Innvik, Nordfjord, Norway, on Hegdal in the early 1500s. He was sent there as a tax collector by Oluf Bagge who lived at Rosendal, Hardangerfjord, Sunnhordaland. They were related but I have not been able to find how. Other branches of the family I have traced back to about 300 B.c.if the old sagas are correct. [a big if] The latest family in sunhordaland is Oluf Farteinson Bagge although there probably are other slekt there.

I am very interested in what you may have found. I believe they may have originally come from Denmark as they were Baglers and may have arrived in Norway with St. Olaf who came back to Norway from Denmark to be King and was later killed at Stiklestad. There are Bagges in Denmark and Bagge does not seem to be a Norwegian name. Hope to hear from you. hkhegdal@webtv.net

Hi franck, My name is Harlan Hegdal and I am of the Bagge family in Norway. Specifically,Helje Bagge fron Innvik, Nordfjord who existed there in the early 1500s. Also, his relative Olaf Bagge who lived in Rosendal, Hardangerfjord, possibly an uncle or other slekt. Oluf was a member of the Riksradet. I have been assembling a genealogy chart of the Bagge family over the last 15 years and it now measures 8 feet by 3 feet high and goes far back in time. I would like to see what you have found also. I live at 519 Sherburne Ave., St. Paul, Minnesota 55103-1946

BAGE & Variants DNA Study

Announcing the BAGE DNA Project for the surnames BAGE, BAGES, BAGGE, BADGE, BAIGE and BAGHE.

I encourage you to join today!

I am excited to announce that the Bage DNA Project has been established at Family Tree DNA, and it is ready for participants to join and order a test kit.

I have ordered my test kit to represent my family tree. Ideally, our goal is to have two distant direct line males test for each family tree.

The Y DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, his father, and back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have one of the surnames shown. If you believe there is a BAGE or variant in your direct male line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, please find a direct line male to participate, to represent your tree.

I encourage males who order a Y DNA test to order 37 markers, if possible. If you order less markers, you can upgrade later, though this costs a little more.

Currently tests are on sale with a 37 marker test being $119 (about £60) and expires on 30th Sept so HURRY!

As the project grows, we will have many exciting discoveries.

Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help with your research of your family tree. We will also discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will provide information about the origin and evolution of the surnames.

The goals of the project are:
* Discover information to help with our family history research
* Discover which family trees are related
* Discover information to help with brick walls
* Confirm surname variants
* Validate family history research
* Get on file a DNA sample for trees at risk of extinction of the male line
* Discover information about our distant origins

The test is a harmless genealogy test of locations on the Y chromosome, called markers, which are passed from father to son, typically unchanged. The test result is a string of numbers, and contains no personal information. You will be an exact or close match to those men to whom you are related. By also testing a distant direct line male in your family tree, if possible, you will validate the family tree research to the common ancestor shared by both men who test. In addition, the test result will tell you about your distant origins.

I have also established a General Fund, to accept donations in any currency via credit card. These funds will be held at the testing company, and used to help sponsor test kits for key males who are unable financially to participate. I encourage you to make a donation. Click on the link below, and then click "Contribute to the Project General Fund" on the left to make a donation. If you decide to donate, please specify "Bage Project General Fund" in the top box of the Donation form.

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Bage/

Both males and females may also be interested in learning about their direct female line, which would be their mother, their mother's mother, and back in time. You would order a mtDNA test. For matches in a genealogical time frame, order the mtDNA Plus test.

I encourage you to join in our discoveries. Use the link below to order your test kit TODAY!

https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=Y42941&...

Keith Bage
Keith@Bage.org.uk
www.bage.org.uk
Trying to locate Henry Hulton wiritng called SKETCHES

Hello,

My name is Gregory Preston.
Dr. Wallace Brown made a statement in his piece “An Englishman Views the American Revolution: The Letters of Henry Hulton, 1769-1776” Huntington Library Quarterly 36 (1972):2; that Henry Hulton wrote “Sketches, with a View to Fix Right Principles in the Minds of Children, and Lead Them to Just Sentiments, and a Virtuous Conduct.”

We are trying to locate a copy of this “Sketches” document. We believe the document is undated, but almost certainly dates from the 1770s or early 1780s. According to Dr. Brown, the “Sketches” document was still in the family’s possession in 1972.

We would like to find out from you if you have any knowledge of the whereabouts of a copy of this manuscript?

Thank you.
Gregory Preston
asisting:
Neil L.

I never have found any information on Ferdinand Christiansen who supposedly lived in Stoughton, Wisconsin.

Two ladies in Denmark (Bodil Rasmussen bodil.rasmussen@sol.dk and Marie tess@pc.dk) want to know what happened to Fritz Oluf Bagge b. 1 May 1885 in Ryde parish, Sønder district, Mariobo county, Denmark. He emigrated from Denmark 22 Mar 1905 from Lolland, Denmark arriving at Ellis Island by the ship "Hellig Olaf". He came across to Chicago with with Leir K. Hansen and immediately traveled to be with their friend Ferdinand Christiansen at Stoughton, Wisconsin.

I found a L. K. Hansen b. abt 1877 Denmark on the Maketteo Steamer Admiral Goodrich at sea. He was a fireman. This appears on the 1920 US Fed. Census, County of San Francisco, California.

If we know when Ferdinand Christiansen was born and where it was it would probably help. Does your mother or relatives have access to information on him and family?

I did much genealogy work for Bodil on the Norgaard line and she did much work on my wife's Westergaard & Gundestrup line in Denmark. It was a good trade off.

Sincerely,

Dean E. Wilson
3303 S.E. 66th Ave.,
Portland, OR 97206-2601
(503) 774-4327

It is interesting that I am looking for the same person. Started looking for him two days ago. I understand that after he arrived at Chicago from Denmark, he went up into the state of Wisconsin. His last known address was with Ferdinand Christiansen at Stoughton, Dane Co., Wisconsin. Interested if you have been able to learn more about him.
Thank you.
Dean Wilson in Portland, Oregon

Greetings-

I am very interested to learn more about your Bagge research. I am working on a mystery involving the Parker family. In 1735, Dr. Alexander Parker was a tenant of Andrew Parker. Earlier, Amy Parker was the fourth wife of Nicholas Slanning whose mother was Gertrude Bagge. I am trying to determine who Alexander Parker's parents were. And I am curious to learn more about the Bagge family as I suspect there could be earlier Parker connections with the family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Chas.

I may have some information for you. My GGGrandmother was a Bagge and came to the US from Norway a little before the turn of the century. She changed her last name to Baker after immigrating.
I know we have been in contact with her family in Norway and they are some kind of royalty, a Count I believe. I also know that about 5 years ago they sold some of their land holdings. I remember because some of the money came to my GGrandmother and her sister who live here.
My email is sewestbo@lycos.com
My Grandmother has these great old parchment roles with the family lineage back about 500 years. I am going to put them onto the computer using a Family Tree Program. As soon as I do I will post it at the Ancestry.com Family Tree Area.
Good Luck.

Hi Cuz. I'm the 7th Great grandson to the above. I am currently trying to piece together the English roots. I have some leads, but no documental proof. I believe, that John Bagg is the grandson to James Bagg Esq., and Margaret Stone from Plympton, Devon, England. They where big property owners in Plymouth, Devon, England. I feel that one of James son's (James, George, and John) was the father to John Bagg. I would like to talk to you more. Email me at Neder7ppl@aol.com. Also, can you send me a copy of the Coat of Arms or Family Crest to me? We'll talk more about your lineage, when you email me. Your cousin, Ken

I see you have been busy searching the internet trying to find out about the Bagg Clan. I am a tenth generation Bagg who is directly decended from John Bagg and Hannah Burt. I have information on a Bagg coat of arms, a Bagg genealogy from John Bagg to 1888 (some branchs), and other materials on my branch to the present. My materials are as yet unorganized. I am trying to get more detailed information including all children etc. on the Bernardston, Mass. Baggs starting with Israel in the 1700s to Luther and Francis Alfred. I am also interested in finding information on the Bagg clans' English roots and before. I'd be glad to exchange info.
Jim Bagg

Bagg Links to Bagge

Hello there, is anyone home? Through my research on our surname. I found a line back in the early 1500s, where Bagge was changed to Bagg. Does anyone care? Please email me back at Neder7ppl@aol.com Respectfully, Ken

Claude Bagge, died October 1991

I am looking for anyone who knew or knew of Claude Bagge, born in France on June 2, 1910 and disappeared without trace around 1930 and whom I have recently tracked down, after 70 years. He died in Baldwin County, Alabama, in 1991. He was a friend of Walter Whitelaw Overton, born in Alice, Texas, in 1893 and who died in Elberta, Alabama, in March 1976. In the sixties, this Walter Overton was apparently a regular contributor to The Mobile Register, not far from Elberta, in and around the 1960.

Greatings to the Bagge Clan. I have completed my first quest in my lineage. Now I am researching the Baggs. I should be able to link the Bagg's and Baggs to the Bagge. During my first quest in completing my fathers lineage to the old colonies. Then to Plympton, Devon, England in the mid 1500's. I believe that there is someone in your clan, that would like to assist us in our quest. Once we complete the linking. Then we can share our lineage's, teach our young our ancent historical pass. Anyone interested in doing alittle research, and would like to share some data? Well, good people. I must go for now. You have my email. I'm currently cleaning my inbox now. Unsubscribing on numerious listings with rootsweb. I am now making room for surname's (Baggs and Bagge)from present to first arrival to the colonies and their lineage from English Isles to Normandy. Is there anyone interested? Hear from you soon. Your distant Kin, wishes you all good health, and prosper! Ken
