PS - The low level MtDNA tests are also $59 for those of you that are interested in maternal lines. I am having this one done, as I haven't focused on this yet in my research.

Remember that a man's MtDNA will be the same as his mother, sister, grandmother, brother, aunt, etc. MtDNA will follow the egg of the mother, not the sperm of the father. Both a sister and brother come from the same mother's egg, but down line from there, when the boy becomes a father, he can only contribute his sperm (no MtDNA) and the egg (MtDNA) must come from his female mate.

William R.
Until April 21, 2012 the 12 marker Y-DNA tests are on sale for $59 at familytreedna. If you Bagley guys have procrastinated because of price, this is the best I've ever seen. Go to familytreedna and join the Bagley project and you should be able to order the test for that price... but don't wait. Let me know if you have questions.

William R (Bill) Bagley
Forest Grove, Oregon.

It is great to make contact with others who are researching the descendants of Melville Sewell Bagley and Mary Jane Hamilton. So far in this thread we have heard from the families of Mabel, Gertrude, and Julia Bagley. I would like to add a new branch: My husband is descended from the eldest child Edith Mary Amelia Bagley who married John William Taylor.

One son of John and Edith Taylor, namely John Scott "Jack" Taylor (born in 1893), remained in Argentina and had children there. I wondered if anyone is in contact with the Bagley descendants who remained in Argentina.

Stephanie in Ottawa has done a terrific job of documenting the Bagley family on her Duggan family tree on Ancestry and has some great family photos there.

I would be happy to correspond with anyone interested in the Taylor descendants of Melville Bagley.

Regards,

Liane

Hi Cliff,
I will go through my BAGLEY, BAGGERLY, BAGGLEY information and see if I can come up with anymore information on your line and then we can try and tie them together.
Do you have any clue as to where Mary Ann may have been born or what year? I am guessing since she and Arthur married in 1892, that they were about 21 years old? Shall we try that timeline for starters? Usually that would right, but I have had ancestors who married at the age of 13 or 15 years of age - so, who knows? Anyway, I will do some searching and see what I can come up with. Can I ask please whether you mean Mary Ann was from Lancs. or was that your Mrs. POULTER, who was from Lancs.? If I know who was born in what County, I usually have pretty good luck in locating them.
All the best,
Marion

Hi Cliff,
I did some research on your Mary Ann BAGLEY and found the marriage certificate for her and Arthur TAYLOR.
They were married in Leeds, Staffordshire, England and it is registered in Staffs., Vol 9b page 453.
If you order a copy of their marriage cert. it should give you the names of her parents, or at least, her Dad's name.
I then found a Mary BAGLEY aged 5, servant to the James JOLLIFFE family. I don't know if this is yours, but she does list her place of birth as being "Worcestershire, England". In the 1871 Census it lists her as living at:
137 Tailor? St., Everton, Nr. Liverpool, Lancashire, England. (The writing is bad).
In 1891, I then found an:
Arthur TAYLOR, b. abt. 1870, lodger, born MacClesfield, Cheshire, England. He is 21 yrs. old and is shown to be an "Engine Cleaner".
He is living with the James GLEDHILL family at 91 Clewes? St., Gorton, lancashire, England.
I am guessing that this may be your man, since he was b. Cheshire but moved to Lancs.?
After that, I found an Arthur TAYLOR b. abt. 1870, in MacClesfield, Cheshire, living with his family in Cheshire:
In the 1871 UK Census:
William TAYLOR, head, aged 34 born MacClesfield, Cheshire, occupation: Silk Steward.
Wife: Hannah aged 32, no occupation, b. Cheshire
Walter S., son, age 12, Occ: Spinnery Mill Piecer or piccer?
Thomas, son, age 10, Occ: Silk Winder,
Caroline, dau. Unwed, aged 8, scholar,
Mary dau. age 6, scholar
William P. son, age 4, scholar,
Arthur, son age 1,
All born in MacClesfield, Cheshire, England.
Address in 1871: No. 8 Nelson St., Macclesfield, Cheshire, in Municipal Ward No. 5.
I don't know if this is your Arthur's family, but since he is shown to be born in Macclesfield, in 1891 Uk Census, I would believe this to be our man.
I then located in the 1911 Canadian Census: Arthur TAYLOR & Mary TAYLOR, living in Ontario, Canada. I am assuming that this is your family group?
I then found an Arthur TAYLOR, b. abt. 1870 in Cheshire, Derbyshire, England, in the first quarter of the year 1870, Cheshire, Derbyshire Register, Vol 8a, page 116.
I hope this helps you out, if I can find out anything else on Mary, I will get back to you.
Locating her family won't be easy, that's why it might be best for you to go ahead and get a copy of their marriage certificate, to get her parents' names.
All the best,
Marion

Hi all, I am looking for further info. on the parents of Catherine BAGLEY, born abt. 1825 St. Thomas Parish, Dudley, Worcs. Her parents are Joseph BAGLEY & Catherine unknown. Anyone linked? JOSEPH was in the 39th Foot Regt., Royal Vets. Battn., Royal Marines. Discharged at age 47, he was also a "Checlsea Pensioner". They had three children(I think), Joseph, William & Catherine. (Guys are shown to be living at home in the 1851 UK Census.)

We have so far found four main haplogroups of unrelated Bagley DNA. From the ancestor Samuel Bagley (my ancestor) Type E1b1b1c1a. Then R1b1a2a1a1b4, R1b1a2a1a1a, and I1 from other lines. Also a couple of the Begley lines show different Haplogroup DNA, and a line of Bagwell DNA shows Haplotype E1b1b1c1a and a possible relation to the Bagley line in the 15 to 1600's or so. I have not researched the various spelling variants of the line yet, but I hope to get additional data points from those folks. Many thanks for those folks that have gone to the time and expense to have the testing done and shared the data with everyone.

You could also go directly to the site www.familytreedna.com When there go to the Bagley Project... Join the project. The 37 marker test is on sale for $119 if ordered before the 31st of December. Remember that all male members of your immediate Bagley family will have the same Y-DNA. Father, Son, Uncle, Brother, Grandfather will share your Y-DNA if you are all part of the Bagley line. When the line is broken anywhere by having a female ancestor, the Bagley Y-DNA chain is lost for that line. My DNA is E1b1b1c1a and my earliest known ancestoral markers are from the area of Sumaria some 4-5000 years ago. (Haplogroup)

Just found your query the other day. Great to meet a family member.JHBjr was my GrGrandfather. He had one son, Charles, who had 3 sons: George,Henry & John, my dad. George loved genealogy but didn't follow JHBjr's siblings. Sorry! JHBjr's obit mentions sisters Clementine and Mary of NYC. No mention of husbands. It also mentions Valentine. Charles' maiden sister, Lydia, corresponded with Val re: genealogy but he had little to offer. George did track the Bagleys back to David Bagley in R.I 1774. and the Nyes back to 1620. One of those Nyes fought in the Revolution. Would love to know how you're related.BTW. Rev. Holroyd was a family friend. That's where THAT name comes from.

However, I have the family bible for the Richmond family, starting with William (died 1882)and Ann Richmond (b1842, d1883, with details of their children's births and marriages. They were from Hartlepool. I am not a relation of theirs, just happen to have it. It's a pdf file, which Rootsweb won't allow me to attach here. I could also send links to digital images on Ancestry etc if I could send them to an email address.

Thank you very much! I am glad to see the information. I am a Grandson of Laura and Albert Cornwell. I would like to find information about both Laura and Albert. I found the border crossing of Laura and my father and two siblings in 1934. That is how I got her maiden name. Otherwise, I have no information. Gilbert Bagley is a new Link. If you have other information on either family, I would be grateful.

Thank you so much for helping me. I hope it works out with Beryl as I know she is my close cousin. My father mentioned an uncle Ernest Bagley, but did not know much about him. I am going to try to see if he is your Ernest too. Wouldn't that be great? When I went to England last year I tried to find out more about my ancestors, but unfortunately I hadn't started with this ancestry site and went over with very little information to hand, and so didn't get very far in the limited time I had. Since starting with ancestry.com.uk I have expanded my family tree so much, I would dearly love to be able to go to England again. Once again thankyou very much.

Hi, There are several David Bagley's in the index of the book, but none with a middle initial of D. or middle name 'Durrill'.

Could you provide some dates, states, counties or something?

I'd need a bit more info to do a thorough look-up (dates, counties, etc), but I don't think your husband's line is covered by Bagley Family Tales. Most of this line is in the South, migrating from VA to NC to GA to points west, for the most part.

I didn,t find either name you mention in the book.

Sorry,
June
