Thanks for the reply and information.

James Hamilton Bagot (Jr.) was the son of James Hamilton Baggett (the spelling changes are a real pain)who was oldest half brother of Helen Mar Bagot. James Jr. (Hal)was on the staff of the Columbia STATE newspaper and from the obituaries, was quite the whiz kid who died young. His younger brother, Ashley Bagot, and mother. Virginia D. Baggett/Bagot died within a year and are most likely buried nearby in Elmwood.

BAGOT - BAGGOT - BAGGOTT - TOUR OF BLITHFIELD HALL & ST LEONARDS CHURCH, ADMASTON, RUGELEY, STAFFORDSHIRE - SUNDAY 7th SEPT 2008

VISIT & TOUR OF BLITHFIELD HALL & ST LEONARD’S CHURCH
Admaston, Rugeley
Staffordshire
WS15 3NL
England
One of the homes of the BAGOT’s and their derivative families.
By arrangement with Cost Bagot Jewitt, Charlie Bagot Jewitt and Nancy Lady Bagot
Sunday 7th September 2008
St Leonard’s Church Service – optional. 9.00 am for 9.15 am
Tour of Blithfield Hall 10.30 am for 10.45 am
Optional – meet at St Leonard’s Church at 9.00 am (via church car park – turn left down Lea Lane, 200 yards before the Hall drive, if coming from Rugeley. Follow for about 1½ miles then turn right down church drive). Charlie Bagot Jewitt will be playing the organ and it gives a lovely introduction to the Blithfield Tour & the Bagot’s.
Tour of Blithfield Hall and Gardens 10.45 am – It would be best if those people not attending Church at 9.15 am come to the Church car park anyway (and not the Hall car park) at 10.30 am ish as Charlie will cover the church part of the tour after the Church Service. We can then walk through the lynch gate all together and have a cup of coffee before having a look around the house and gardens. Your own arrangements for Lunch after the Tour.
There is also the option of visiting Tutbury Castle not far away, following on in the footsteps of Richard Bagot (1552 -1597). There is a music concert being played on that afternoon at 2.00 pm. Circlus bring their unique brand of medieval music to Tutbury Castle with special guests handpicked by Circulus themselves which will enhance your viewing and listening pleasure.
The Abbots Bromley Horn Dance occurs the next day. Starts at 7 or 7.30 am on Monday 8th September, with a Church blessing in Abbots Bromley. They then dance/walk a route with several stops on the way to arrive at Admaston about 11-12 and onto the Hall from 12 noon. Timings are a bit hit & miss and it seems to depend on the level of hospitality en route! They dance in front of Blithfield Hall then stop for lunch. Do bring a picnic (fingers crossed it doesn’t rain!). They move on and end up back in the village about 3 to 4pm. Do a loop from the village, returning at about 6pm. Then the party starts with all the pubs open, other folk dancers (Morris, Clog etc) often turn up for a dance too etc – great fun – if its sunny.
Contact: Jim North jim.north@wanadoo.fr to reserve tickets for the visit to the Hall or for more information. Places are limited so a prompt response is advised.

Shannon,
My name is Richard Bagot. My Grandfather was born in Bourbon, Mo. 11/12/1892. His father (my Great Grandfather) was born in 1860. (Edward Eugene Bagot) died 1893. His wifes maiden name was (Ida Eugeninua Longuemare) 1867-1955. There were brothers and maybe sisters in that area. Our search stops with my Great Grandfather. We cannot find any relatives before him. If you can be of assistance please feel free to e-mail me.
Thanks,
Richard Bagot

Shannon:

I hope this message finds you since you posted 2 years ago. I am related to the St Louis Bagots through George and Lottie Bagot. Aunt Lottie was my grandmother's aunt through Lottie's sister, Ida Trudell Lynch. You say that all Bagots in St Louis are related, so can I assume that this is your George too? I'm getting ready to write to George and Barbara Bagot to get some family info and stories regarding Trudells as well as Bagots. If this is your family, I'd love to hear from you.

The Baggett/Bagot History site provides information on the sons of Nicholas Baggett who migrated to America in 1715. It has the descent of five of the sons of Nicholas. It also has a Shared Files page that provides many files of those who have shared their material with the owner of the site. It has information on Coats of Arms of the family, Name Origin, the famous Bagot Goat and Blithfield with photographs. It also has information on Historic Homes in the United States and photos of those homes and pictures of ancestors who have passed away. Several pages of the history of the Nicholas Baggett family are included on the site.

The site also provides the history and descent of the Bagot family in England, Ireland , and Australia and several links to various sites of Bagot, the original spelling of the name. It provides the history of their origin and where the family was before their migration to England in 1066. No information of the living is provided on the site, but it has links to others who have this information. The address of the Baggett/Bagot site: http://baggetthistory.com.

If you have a history of your family that is not already listed on the site and wish to have it posted, after you visit the site, send E-Mail to the address provided on the site.
Bagot both Irish and English

Dear David,
Bagot is a great family name, isn't it.
I am from Oz.(Sth Aust.), and am related to
the Bagot "Clan", ie the Irish side, where
most of us came from, due to leaving Ireland in the early 1900's. Yes, its true, that there is two sides to the Bagot side - one is
English, and one is Irish - both going back
to 1100 AD Approx. Family Tree's are still
being looked at, but go to Genforum, where most query's are shown, Regards, Mike Sangster, Sth. Australia, Australia.

Not sure about Ben's siblings - will find out - yes, our Searsons were in Hollywood/Meggett - my grandfather - Wm Bagot Sr was mayor as was my uncle, Wm Bagot, Jr. Wm Bagot (Bill) III worked for the Charleston schools - not sure in what capacity. He is my first cousin - his father and my mother are brother and sister. He lives on James Island - family all over the Charleston - Beaufort area. My mother calls your wife's grandfather, Uncle Frank, and her father "Cousin Eugene" - closely related actually - ask your wife if she has the books written by Allen Searson - "The Searsons of Allendale" and "Horseback Auditor" - they are small books - I can copy them if she wants a copy.
Elizabeth

My wife, Gene Marie Searson, is the oldest daughter of Myrick Eugene Searson, second son of Francis Marion (Frank)Searson, Sr. (1881-1972) The other Benjamin Cicero sons are, according to Eugene's paperwork:
Harry Benjamin 1873, Evander McIver 1875-1877, Allen Zacharia 1877-1959, Eugene Clinton 1879-1973, and William Bagot 1882-1976. The Bagot Searson family are the ones down Savannah Highway in Meggett/Hollywood, right?
Always a good place to get a speeding ticket.
I believe Bagot Searson was the mayor of Meggett. Genie sez William Bagot III was the principal of James Island High.

I am afraid I have little information on Helen. The Bagots (Baggetts) made a great deal of money during the Civil War running blockades - they owned a plantation in Colleton County, SC (one of several) called Rose Hill - it was sold by the Bagots in 1910 to the Dupont family of Delaware. It has since burned to the ground. Are you a descendant of Benjamin Cicero? His sons were Frank, Allen, William Bagot (my grandfather), Eugene and I think there was one other - I'm sorry I cannot remember - will have to check with my mother or a cousin who has a lot of information.
Elizabeth

My father-in-law has it listed on his Searson line as Helen Mar Bagot 1851-1900. That's all I've got. Glad to find out who the Tories were....father-in-law seems to feel it is a great family shame and secret and wouldn't tell.

Helen Bagot m. Benjamin Cicero Searson

I am looking for information on Helen Bagot - married to Benjamin Cicero Searson - lived in the low country of South Carolina. The original family name was Bagot, changed to Baggett during Revolutionary War (the Bagots were Tories, our branch patriots). It was changed back to the original spelling of Bagot by James Hamilton Bagot around 1900-1910. Need information on Helen's parents - probably in SC - maybe NC. Anyone with info, please respond.
Thank you,
Elizabeth
