Re: Walter Peter Baier, of Bavaria, germany

There is a Peter Baier who came to the US in 1872. He was a naturalized citizen in 1900 in Bruce Township, in Macomb Co MI. His wife, a MI native of German parentage was named Mary. He had two daughters, Jeannie, Mamie and a son named Stuart, Stewart. The census form is difficult to read.

In 1910 I found a Peter Baier who lives with his wife Mary, son Herbet, daughter, Mae. He was a blacksmith. He was also a naturalized citizen who arrive in 1871.

I believe there is some chance that this is the same family as the age of the adult children seem to be consistent.

Hope this is the helps.

In the 1910 Census Frederick (65) states he arrived in the US in 1866, and states that he was a naturalized, but not when. Katherine (spelled Catherine in 1910 Census) also arrived in 1866. Katherine (68) had 12 children, 4 of whom lived. In the 1910 Census they also listed one 18 year old son who was adopted. The house is listed as 120 S Seventh St in Saline Kansas.

Katherine lists her birthplace as U Hessen, probably Hessen-Darmstadt in Germany in the 1880 Census.

Frederick Baier would have been from Württemberg, Germany, southern Germany. My Gr-gr grandfather, Thomas Baier, was also from this region. I believe they might have come via New Orleans, as many Swiss immigrants came in via that route also. I don't have any information on him specifically. My family members also eventually settled in Victoria and Ellis Kansas.

Carl Baier (1854 – 1906) came to the States in 1872 with his sister Barbara (b 1850). Their parents were Franz and Barbara Baier. Family data says that they were from “Hof, Bavaria.” This is presumably the Hof in Oberfranken, but “Unterfranken” is given on the ship’s manifest as their place of origin. Charles settled in Lebanon, PA. We think that Barbara went somewhere in the Baltimore-Washington area. Can anybody help me find Barbara’s trail?

I am looking for the dates when Thomas Baier and Anna Simon Baier died. He was born in Wurttemberg Germany in about 1837. She was born in Switzerland in 1844. I believe that she died in about 1888 when the family may have been in Effingham, IL and my great grandmother Cecelia would have been 10 years old. I believe that the family moved to Kansas after Margaret married Thomas Judd in 1890 in Decatur IL.

In the 1880 census the family was in La Clede, Fayette County, IL. Listed in the census were Thomas 43, Anna 36, Albert 15,
Henry 13,
Maggie 10 (Margaret),
August 7 (Gustave),
Morris 4 (Moritz),
Zelia 2 (Cecelia),
John W 11/12.

Thank you.
Thank you for your reply.
Since I posted that message, I found the Lorson Site. That was GREAT! I only wish my mom was alve to see it. As a young girl she would visit her Grandparents Mathias & Catherine often.
I have since learned that Suzanna's father was Augustus. And that helped so much!
I would like to know more about Johan-Mathias Baier and Barbara Engel. Immigration dates and possibly more details about the German connection.
You also mentioned a Californian connection. Not sure how that connects.

Please take your time in responding. I understand the computer thing! Thanks again for your time!
Elizabeth

Hi,
I was very interested in your reply because Frank,John and Julia are the brothers and sisters of my great grandfather, Maithas George Baier (1856-1930).
Since I have just recently been trying to fill in gaps in this family I would appreciate any additional information you have. I have many queries. 1. I would like to verify all siblings in this family. 2. Know the website for the Losson photo. 3. Know the true name of Maithias' wifes father. He married Suzanne C. Eck. 4. Learn more about Johan Mathias Sr. and wife Barbara Engel.5. Know the Californian connection you mention.

This may be a tall order, but I would appreciate the help.
My email is: macush11@aol.com

Thanks, Elizabeth
He was the brother of my great grandfather, Mathias George Baier(1856-1930)who married Suzanne C. Eck in 1879. They had 11 childdren. Maithias and Suzanne are buried in Bastress, PA.
His brother, Frank was 18 years old in 1880 and was a farm labor. I have other siblings as:George, Anthony, John, Julie and Teresa.
Is there a connection here to your family? I have very little information about their parents and would be eager to know more. Thanks very much.

Thank you so much for your reply. I knew this was a long shot, but I'm at a dead end. These Baiers were from Mosonszolnok, Hungary. We know where they were going in MN, but no one seems to know what happened to Theresa Baier after she came to MN in 1913. A real mystery.
Hi,
I do not have any information on my Baiers before they immigrated to the U.S. except that they came from a small town called Untergruppenbach near Heilbron Germany. My family settled in the Pittsburgh PA area so I doubt that your grandmother was a close relation. If you can find their passenger manifest thru Ellis Island, you would find where and with whom they were going to reside.
Best of luck!
His parents were Herman Fredrick Baier and Pauline Ossman Baier. Herman and Pauline bought a farm in McDonald, PA and lived there until their deaths. Both Herman and Pauline were from Heilbrohn and Untergruppenbach Germany and immigrated in 1892. The story is they eloped. Herman had a brother, William. William had a butcher shop in Bridgeville PA in the early 1900's.
Not sure my family has any ties to yours. If you think there may be a connection, pleae email me. Jane

I am related to this family through Andrew H. Baier's wife, Kathie Hessler. This family came to the US about 1890 and lived in Cicero Illinois. Andrew was born about 1859 and Kathie about 1860 in Germany.

They had two children, Andrew Lewis Baier born November 1896 and Meda Babette Baier born September 1899. Babette married her first cousin and my great uncle, Emil Charles Jourdan (who died in 1944). Babette then married Robert Fox.

In 1920 Andrew Lewis Baier was living with his aunt and uncle, David and Babette Jourdan in Lyons Township Illinois. Emil and Babette were living in Oceana County Michigan down the street from Emil's sister, Babette's cousin, and my great aunt, Katie Jourdan Padecky. Are you confused yet?

I cannot find the Baier family any where in 1910 under any spelling.

Andrew L. married Hedwig (Harriet) and they had two children name Andrew T. born about 1924 and Louis born about 1926. Louis disappears after that, but Andrew L. shows up in Dupage County in his later years.

I am trying to find out what happened to Andrew H (the eldest)., my great grand aunt Katherine, and anything else about this family.

Please email me if you have any info.
