PRINCETON — Glenna Maxine Bailey Mills, 86, of Princeton; MOMMY HAS GONE HOME on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Born Sept. 27, 1925 at Dott, she was the daughter of the late Corbett Marvin Bailey and Macie Stanley Bailey. Mrs. Mills was of the protestant faith. She was a homemaker and liked to sew, walking and riding her bicycle. She played the piano in many area churches.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buren Albertis Mills in 2010; one son, Johnny Ray Mills; one great-grandson, Austin Boyles; four brothers, Alfred Bailey, Arron Bailey, Russel Bailey and Alvin Bailey; and a son-in-law, Clyde David Boyles.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Rode and her husband, Ken of Princeton and Charlamayne Boyles of Springton; one son, Michael Mills of Princeton; three sisters, Betty Shrewsbury of Bicknal Flats, Joy Hurst of Matoaka and Carol Pinkston of Niceville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Valorie, Sean, Iris, D.J., Jonathan and Yancy; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Delmar Stillwell officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Sean Boyles, D. J. Boyles, Jesse Anderson, Yancy Rode, Richard Tiller and Ronnie Tiller. Jonathan Rode will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

OVIEDO, Fla. — Elizabeth Louise Bailey Shepherd, 81, a native of Bluefield, W.Va., died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in Altamote Springs, Fla., after a long illness. Elizabeth was a daughter of the late Harvey Lee Bailey of Bluefield, W.Va. and Virginia Mae Mary Tuell Bailey of Chilhowie, Va.

Mrs. Shepherd is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Virginia; her husband, Preston Herman Shepherd; daughter, Cecile Annette Bachand; sons, Preston “Petie” Harvey and Preston Herman Jr.; brother, Harvey Lewis; and five sisters, Evelyn Pauline Graham Tupper, Frances Marie Pugh Collins, Margarette Mae Stancliff, Ethel “Edie” Virginia Waddell, and Carline Annette Norris.

Survivors are daughters, Virginia Mae Perez of Deltona, Fla., Patricia Marie Weaver Green of Naples, Fla., Iris Leigh Proffitt of Bluefield, W.Va., Debra Sue Blackburn of Oviedo, Fla., and Irene Elizabeth “Beth” Hayden of Orlando, Fla.; sons, Albert “Joey” Hoge of Kissimmee, Fla. and Gary Wayne of Oviedo, Fla.; five sisters, Consuella White of Jacksonville, Fla., Shirley Kay Jones of Mitchellville, Md., Catrinikia Ann Taylor of Louisa, Va., Rachel Lee Riggins Hollridge of Laurel, Md., and Bettyjean Schmiedigen of Brentwood, Md. Elizabeth had 31 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several cousins of Bluefield, W.Va. and Bristol, Va.

Funeral services for Elizabeth will be conducted 12:00 noon, Saturday, May 5, in the Mausoleum, Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Route 123, Bluefield, W.Va., with interment following the service.

Burial arrangements are under the direction of the Roselawn Funeral Home and Monte Vista Park Cemetery.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Linda Sue Dickens Bailey, RN, 36, of 549 Williams Street, Bluefield, Va. (Abb’s Valley), passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, W.Va. Born in Bluefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of Coy Lee Dickens and Delores Taylor. She was a 1993 graduate of Pocahontas High School and salutatorian of her class. Linda also graduated from the Southwest Virginia Nursing Program in 1997 with honors. She is a former employee of Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She was a devoted and loving caregiver to her patients and family.

Linda is preceded in death by her grandmother, Syble Taylor.

Survivors include her parents, Coy Lee Dickens and Jeanie Taylor Dickens of Bluefield, Va., (Abb’s Valley); grandfather, “Pug” Taylor; husband, Thomas Bailey; sister-in-law, Cathy Bailey and companion, Andrew Thomas of Montcalm, W.Va.; brothers-in-law, David Bailey and wife, Kim of Bluefield, Va., Wesley Bailey and wife, Laura of Bluefield, W.Va., and Donald “Jess” Bailey and wife, Kim of Montcalm, W.Va.; nephews, Jacob Horne of Rock, W.Va., and Joshua Horne and companion, Kayla Simons of Montcalm, W.Va.; nieces, Nina Carter and husband, Allen of Princeton, W.Va., Amanda Codd of Rock, W.Va., Erica Bailey and companion, Shannon of Bluefield, W.Va., and Kayla Bailey of Montcalm, W.Va.; great-nieces, Anna Codd of Rock, W.Va., and Jazlen Thomas of Welch, W.Va.; and several uncles and cousins.

ROANOKE, Va. — Evelyn Louvena Harman Bailey, 93, of Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home in Roanoke, Va., died Monday, April 23, 2012 at her residence. Born July 10, 1918 in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late John Marion Harman and Virgie Victoria Hager Harman. Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of the Smith Chapel Church of the Brethren in Princeton. She had been a resident of Roanoke, Va. since 2006, moving there from Princeton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey William Bailey; three sisters, Willie Wimmer, Mattie Thomason, and Mary Belcher; and two brothers, John Harman Jr. and James Harman.

Survivors include one son, Philip Edward Harman and wife, Marga of Norfolk, Va.; one daughter, Sharon Bailey Jenkins and husband, George of Boones Mill, Va.; five grandchildren, Frank Harman and wife, Beth of Norfolk, Va., Michele Sandifer and husband, Mike of Chesapeake, Va., Valerie Umphenour and husband, Donnie of Paradise, Calif., Vicky Hall of Vinton, Va., and Lisa Vaughan and husband, S.R. of Rocky Mount, Va.; six great-grandchildren; one stepson, James Bailey and wife, Ruth, and one stepdaughter, Margaret Jones, all of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one brother, Ralph Harman and wife, Mary of Bluefield; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends and caregivers at Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home in Roanoke, Va.

PRINCETON — Pearl Jones Bailey, 85, of 504 10th Street, Princeton, died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born Sept. 16, 1926 in Hensley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Jones and Mae Hager Jones. Pearl was a former cook for the McDowell County Board of Education and had been a resident of Princeton since 2000 moving here from Hensley. She was a member of the Myrtle Valley Regular Baptist Church in Hensley and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenis Bailey; one son, Kenneth Bailey; one daughter, Wanda Bailey Swick; two granddaughters, Angie Swick and Michelle Lester; one grandson, Arby Bailey; two brothers, Bob Jones and Verlin Jones; and two sisters, Josephine Dameron and Mattie Lucas.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Harless of Iaeger, and Anita Bailey Kennedy of Princeton, with whom she made her home; one son, Raymond Bailey of Big Sandy; nine grandchildren, Robbie Bailey, Michael Bailey, Sonya Gibson, Melissa Bailey, Amy Hollins, Valerie Perkins, Davey Swick, Matthew Bailey, and Shea Swick; 14 great-grandchildren, including Holly Daniels of Princeton, whom she raised; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Jones and wife, Lettie of Princeton; four sisters, Lodena Lester of Princeton, Dorothy Mays of Ohio, Patricia Milam and husband, Norman of North Carolina, and Emma Blankenship and husband, Doug of Big Sandy; and special cousin, Faye Cole of Princeton.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Evan Carlton Bailey, 33, of 2908 Newman Dr. in Johnson City, Tenn., died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn. Born in Johnson City on January 5, 1978, he was the son of Roger C. and Barbara Belcher Bailey of Johnson City, Tenn. Evan was a graduate of Science Hill High School in Johnson City and earned a Master's Degree in Computer Technology from East Tennessee State University. He had a variety of talents and interests but particularly enjoyed golf as well as a variety of musical instruments. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, Tenn. His paternal grandfather, E. Woodrow Bailey and his maternal grandfather, Robert Belcher preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, survivors include three brothers, Brad Bailey of Johnson City, Brian Bailey and his wife Marti of Knoxville, Tenn. and Eric Bailey and his wife Kim of Telford, Tenn.; two nieces, Natalie and Alyssa Bailey; and two nephews, Julian and Gavin Bailey; paternal grandmother, Beulah Ann Bailey; and maternal grandmother, Callie Belcher, both of the GlenWood Park Retirement Village in Princeton.

Bomba “Dale” Bailey

PRINCETON — Bomba “Dale” Bailey, 59, of South Avenue, Princeton, departed this life on Monday morning, January 23, 2012 after battling cancer to enter into the presence of his Lord and Savior. Born June 14, 1952 in Princeton, he was the son of the late Lyle Don Bailey Sr. and Ruby J. Radford Bailey. Dale was a graduate of Princeton High School. Dale was a former employee for the Dove Sign Company and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 29 years of service as a machine operator. Dale was a member of the Lilly Grove Baptist Church in Princeton. Dale was a people person, and he enjoyed being around and talking to people where ever he went. He loved to ride his Harley, and spend time working in his garage. There was a special place in Dale's heart for animals. It did not matter what kind it was, he would bring them home. Dale was very devoted to his family and loved his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four legged friend, his golden retriever, “Sunshine.”

Those left to cherish the memory include his companion and wife of 44 years, Tonja Marlene Dove Bailey; two children and their spouses, Lorri and Shane Carosi of Princeton, S.Sgt. Nathaniel and Michele Bailey of 29 Palms, Calif.; two grandchildren that held the keys to his heart, Mackenzey “Birdie,” Ethan “E.E.;” and a grandchild that will arrive just any time that is named Jett; two siblings and spouses, Lyle Don and Judy Mae Bailey Jr., Anna and Doug Neal, all of Princeton; a host of nieces and nephews; special sister-in-law, Brenda Collier of Hinton Head, S.C.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dale Bailey will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Bruce Woodson officiating. GLEN ROGERS -- Robert L. Bailey, 46, of Glen Rogers, died in a Beckley hospital Sunday after a long illness. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.
Bailey was born Feb. 12, 1930, at Glen Rogers, a son of the late Mates Bailey.
He was a retired timberman.
He is survived by his mother, Ida Blankenship Bailey of Glen Rogers; two daughters, Sherry and Darlene of California; one son, Gary of Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Farrell of Bell and Pansy of Glen Rogers, and five brothers, Paris of Eccles, and Raymond, Kelly, Earl and Ivan,all of Glen Rogers.

GLEN ROGERS - Edna Jean Bailey, 59, went to be with the Lord October 10, 2009, following a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born June 25, 1950, in Ravencliff, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Gladys Lafferty.

Edna was of the Baptist faith, a homemaker, a loving wife, and motherto everyone who entered her home.

My great grandmother was Olive Joanna or Olive Johanna Bailey. Her parents were Thomas Bailey and Mary Duane.
They had 13 children. Thomas and Mary Olive Duane lived were born and lived in Erinsville, Ontario and moved to Boyston, Oswego county in NY state. Do you have any other information on Thomas Bailey? If you go back and read the deeds and wills, you will find 3 different families of Bailey's unrelated living in the same county. My William and Martin, Revolutionary War Soldiers b. in Virginia are DNA related to ABRAHAM of Colonial Jamestown, prob. an uncle. We are also related to a Thomas, who was living in Henrico, as well, and probably a gamaliel, not proven, but highly likely. My clam migrated to SC>then to Monroe Co., Ky abt 1808> Then they became land speculators in Missouri. E.K. in Benton County, and Wm and all his other boys in Platte, buchann, and the Kansas Territory. Callum and callum clan was in TExas County. Some of Carr Baileys kin migrated to Nortern mO. Sandonias was also my GGGGrandmother.I have no birth year for John either. From possible age ranges I found those four possibilities when I was lucky enough to check through the Staffordshire archives. I live in Spain so I rarely get the chance to research first hand.

I really can't say which of the John's I favour. All I know is that there was a comparitively huge group of Baileys/Bayleys in or arround Biddulph/Horton who seemed to be sufficiently distantly related to marry.

I'd love to know about why there was such a huge concentration of the name in a relatively small area.

I have thought John 1772 (father John and mother Hannah) but my cousin thinks John 1777 (father Henry and mother Margaret) who happens to be related in some way. Sorry for the lack of details.

Sandonias was born abt. 1777 and christened at St.Lawrence Biddulph, Staffordhire.

I believe that all of the possible Johns that I listed are of the same parish or Horton (also Staffordshire).

The wedding took place on the 2nd July 1799 also at St.Lawrence. My problem is that there are a number of possible Johns for this period. One of whom is Sandonias' brother.. so I removed hom from the list.
