Seeking info about family of Goff and Ada Bainbridge, listed on 1920 census, Butler County, Kansas with daughter
Pauline, who is listed as born in Ohio, age 11. Goff and Ada listed as born in West Virginia, with Goff listed as working as a driller in oil fields. Anybody know this family, and know the maiden name of Ada? Is this Bainbridge family related to the next door neighbor, William and Ola (Shultz?) White, who were also from West Virginia?

I have found her on all relevant census but 1881 is the key census which could put to rest a family mystery. We need to know where she was and who she was with.
Dear Cousin Susan;

Many apologies for being so late in replying and greetings from Canada --- I have been away from genealogy for about a month (Christmas out in Calgary where all our grandchildren live!)

Yes, we are related and my descent from George and Margaret is to John B. & Agnes Bell, to John B & Jane Dockray, to Isaac B & Gertrude Wesley (who emigrated to Canada in 1911) to Dorothy Bainbridge & William Dennison to myself.

I have 8 pages in small type of George & Margaret's decsendants but can only find one Grace amongst them. My mother's cousin Grace B married an Allan Stackhouse in 1935 and lived in Brookhouse. She was still married to him when my mother and I visited them there in the 1980s!

My e-mail address is lornamilne1@gmail.com and if you send me yours I will try to send some of the reams of information I have on to you.

I wrote a family history of the Bainbridges back in the 1980s and am up-dating it right now so any input on your branch will be most appreciated!

Lorna Milne

Dear Lorna,

Good to hear from you. Today I've been looking at the old newspapers online Lancaster paper) and have discovered a few things about my Bainbridge line, e.g. deaths notified in the local press and also court appearences of a number of Bainbridges! I found Margaret Metcalf who married George Bainbridge in 1811 in the Lancaster press in a notice of death; she died 12 February, 1870 aged 92, see attachment.

Although my grandmother Margaret Ann Morris, daughter of Francis John Morris and Grace Bainbridge, left Lancaster in 1924; I still have relatives living in Lancaster, one of them is my great uncle George who is my grandmother's youngest brother who will be 102 years of age next March. His mother was Grace Bainbridge, great grandaughter of George Bainbridge, born 1787 in Dent who it seems we are both descended from.
I would love to hear more about your branch of the family. I will be away from home from the 6th until the 20th December, so if I don't hear from you before Christmas have a happy Christmas and New Year "Cousin".

Regards, Susan
I am delighted to hear from another Bainbridge researcher. I wrote a family history called "Bainbridge Branches" years ago and am now updating it, since I tracked down the Dent connection. I am descended from the 6th Bainbridge brother, George, b. 1787 in Dent. George & Septimus , both stonemasons, moved to Burton, WES, and several generations of Bainbridge stonemasons stayed in Burton. My own grandfather, Isaac Bainbridge was born there in 1880 and moved to Canada as a young man. My email address is lornamilne1@gmail.com.
Well, let me first say, that it is nice to meet you, son of Richard. I actually will be receiving more info on the family soon, so I would be happy to pass along any information that I can. I live in south central Nebraska.
My dad lives in Lincoln and his oldest brother Tom in Papillion. Their brother John is in Maryland. I also have a brother who lives in Omaha. But he has never married or children, so the Bainbridge name will not be passed in this line of the family. However, Uncle Tom has a son Todd, who has two children and one is a boy. And uncle John has two daughters. I also have a sister, but she has no children. My husband and I have one son, but, he will not carry on the
family name of course.
I also have a copy of Thomas's birth certificate. My dad Jerry and uncle Tom gave me several pics that I never knew
exhisted, and I am in the process of trying to track down the family history and want to surprise them with making
a book. Of course, some of the pics have absolutely no names, or they have only initials with a last name! UGH! I'm also thinking of hiring a professional to help
track down the family ancestors. There are thousands of Bainbridges in England. I have tried every avenue, until exhausted and cross-eyed from looking at the computer screen! I also found out that one of Dorothy's children of by her husband Oates Shaw was born on the ship Germanic while they were immigrating to America. They gave her the middle name of Germanic!(At least it was a middle and not
a first name!LOL!)Actually, south of where I live , in another couny there is
a Bainbridge Cemetery, but, they cannot find any records in of any Bainbridges buried there. So I'm wondering if there are, but it could be during the immigration to the west, on a wagon train, and maybe?,possibly be named for the wagon master? I don't know, but
you wonder, since no record of a deceased Bainbridge isn't
listed and the cemetery has been there since the late 1860's. Also, I'm wondering if Bainbridge Island is named after a relative. So many "ifs"! I hope maybe we can all
solve the mystery and find out who our ancestors were!!!
I love a good mystery!
I did track down the Ayre's, and knew they lived in Spring Valley and in one census record it showed Thomas as a boarder! I thought that strange! But, I didn't find when the Ayre's immigrated to America. Lots of pieces of the puzzle to find!!!
Where do you live? What is your name? Do you want to email
privately, or thru Ancestry.com?

I have learned more about my family history by reading what you have put on here. My dad is also thankful because he has cousins out there. Thomas came over to america with his Grandparents Cuthbert and Eleanor Ayre they moved to Spring valley township, Bureau county Illinois. Also i have some baptism papers of Thomas A Bainbridge it says they lived in Nettlesworth, England. One more thing I have Thomas A Bainbridge family bible that his grandmother gave him. I hope this helps and I will try to get you more info. My dad also would like to know what part of the country your family lives in. I hope one day are families could meet because up to this point my dad thought his family was the last of the bainbridge's.

Thomas A Bainbridge was my great grandfather, his son
George(Tony) was my grandfather, my father Jerry was the
middle son of George(Tony) and his wife Marie. I'm trying
to track further into the Bainbridge history. I know that
they were miner's in Durham, Chester Le Street, England.
I do not know who Thomas A Bainbridges mother was, his
father Thomas died shortly after Thomas and his wife
Dorothy married. You must be Genevieve's daughter? George
(Tony's) and Genevieve were brother/sister. they also had
a brother Robert, who never had any children, but was
married twice. If you have any information that you can pass on to the family history, I would appreciate anything
that you have. I know that Thomas A. Bainbridge came to America in late 1888 or 1889, but I cannot track where he
lived or with whom. I do know that his mother remarried
a few years after he was born, to a Oates H. Shaw and that
she had 7 more children with him. But on the ships manifest,
it does not list Thomas A on the manifest. I think that he
may have come over with this grandparents, Dorothy his mothers folks. I also know that Thomas A. was an accountant
for the railroad, and that he died in his backyard at the
young age of 29 of TB. But I would like to trace his father/mother and grandparents on the Bainbridge side but
have run into a dead end. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Looking for information on the parents of Charles Bainbridge, born 1825, Nova Scotia and lived in OH, where he died in 1884. Census reports show his father was born in NJ and his mother in England. Nova Scotia marriages list both George and Matthew Bainbridge marrying there in January 1823. George was bondsman for Matthew. Does anyone know if or how these two men tie into the NJ Bainbridge family or if either of these men were the father of Charles?

I'm trying to track my Bainbridge family history.
The only information that I have is the following:
Anthony Bainbridge (b.1841?-d.1878)(My GGG Grandfather)
Anthony fathered a son Thomas Anthony Bainbridge(b.1854-d.1880)(My GG Grandfather)
Thomas Anthony married Dorothy Ayre July 1878.
Thomas Anthony died Jan. 31 1880. His only child also
named Thomas Anthony(b. mar 1880-d.1919) was born 2 months after his father died, I'm told of TB.
I would like to hear from any Bainbridges who can fill in the blanks as to Anthony's(b.1841)
side of the family that is missing. Who his parents were,
if he had siblings. Who is Thomas Anthony's mother? Are there cousins that know the family history?
My father and his brother's know absolutely nothing of their
Bainbridge family ancestors.
Hello. I have John Angus Bainbridge (aka Lester Angus) b. 1888 (South Shields) in my tree. He lived in Cullercoats from 1953 intil his death in 1956. Does he tie in with any of your relatives?
Also Thomas Bainbridge b. 1848 in Newcastle and lived most of his life in and around Wallsend. Married Mary Gascoigne and Elizabeth Angus. Do any of these connect with yours?
I do not know of any Henriettas but would need more info to see if there is a connection - mainly because of the tradition of naming children after parents etc, I have a John Bainbridge, , born 1809 but no more info on his ancestors,or siblings, etc., Your Bainbridge could be a non direct line, such as a cousin; however, if there are siblings with children, etc, etc. Let me know what you think
I have a Bainbridge connection, and I have only just started on this branch of the tree.

My connection comes in at Edith Henrietta Bainbridge b1866, whose father was John Bainbridge b1822 and Gf John Bainbridge b1796.

All are from the Newcastle Area, and would love to see if we have any connections in the area.

Sorry that is correct.1882 is the date I have and thank you I can now add to that 16th Dec. I also only have the year and month as Feb 1971. I only member this as a letter was received from his daughter to my Mum and I said to her one soul leaves and another enters as my son Jarrad was born in Feb 1971. But she did not have an exact date.

Rosemary
