This is a continuation of a posting that I
made to the Baker Surname Message Board on
4-23-01.Maurice Baker( b. 1587, England)was
the grandfather of Maurice Baker(died in
Md.in 1700) and the father of John Baker(b.
1622, England). Maurice(b. 1587) had a
brother,John(b.1589,England),who immigrated
to York Co.,Va.,in the 1630`s, along with
three of his children, who had been born in
England: John(b. 1617); Elizabeth(b.1621);
and Katherine(b.1628). Katherine married John
Pead. Elizabeth married John Clark.John Baker
appears to have remained unmarried.John,b1589)
died in York County in 1645,and his son,John,
died there in 1659.The children of Maurice
(b.1587)included, in addition to John(b.1622)
-Joan(b.1617);Isabell(b1619);Susanna(b.1625)
and Thomas(b.1627).Joan married John Smith in
1635 in London, St.Gregory by St.Paul, and
they immigrated to York Co.,Va.Isabell
married Dictoris Christmas. In 1642, Joan
Greenfield(incorrectly spelled in the record
as Glanfield),who married John Baker(b.1622),
is listed as a headright of Dictoris
Christmas. D. Christmas died in York Co.,ca.
1654.Susanna is listed as a headright of
Hugh Gwin of Lancaster Co.,Va.,in 1655.In the
1650`s, she married Richard Nicholson, who
died in Charles Co.,Va.,in 1659. She then
married Rice Hooe the 2nd of Charles Co.,Va.,
in 1660.Thomas immigrated to Lancaster Co.,
Va. His daughter,Isabell,married Robert
Roberts in Lancaster Co.,Va.,in 1682. Thomas
died there in 1698.
