Jonas and Wm George Baldwin

I have been trying to find information on Jonas Baldwin born either in MA or NH about 1798. I am trying to find a birth record or some other record with his parents and siblings
names.

My GGrandfather Wm George Baldwin is shown residing with Jonas and his family :
First wife Ruth Granger, children Luther and Warren b 1827 and 1832. There were two older children not living with him at the time, William and George b 1814 and 1816.

Wm George was born about 1831 in NY according to the census, marriage record and death record. However, my Dad and cousins state he came from Kent, England.

Wm married Mary Starks, daughter of Isaac Starks and Louise Randall Starks, in Waupaca WI in 1858. They moved to NY after that and four of their children: Frank, Nellie, Fred and Mattie were born there. In 1870 Charles was born in Waupaca,.WI and my grandfather, Johnson Eugene was born in WI.

Mary died in 1874 just after Johnson was born. Wm George died in 1878 so my grandfather was raised by his maternal aunt and her husband: Cornelia and Johnson Tarr.

I don't know where the other children went. I do know that Mattie married Frank Kaiser, they lived in Portage, WI Fred died by drowning at age 10. Frank was living in Ashland, WI with no Census record showing he ever married.

My Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Edward were born in Ashland. My Father, Marshall Eugene was born in Racine.

I would like to hear from anyone connected with any of these families. Sue Baldwin

Minneapolis Messenger, Ottawa County, Kansas, Aug. 6, 1925, page 1:
THE BALDWIN REUNION
The descendants of Ezra Baldwin met in their twenty-first annual reunion July 31, 1925 in a small grove in the F.E. Baldwin farm near the N.H. Baldwin home.
The family now numbers 171 but only 60 were present this year and seven visitors. There was an increase in members the past year, two by birth and two by marriage. There were no deaths during the year. N.H. Baldwin is the oldest member and Irwin King the newest member.
The men folks amused themselves by freezing ice cream while the ladies got dinner, which was served cafeteria style. All did their full share in helping get the dinner out of the way --- Billy Baldwin getting his full share of chicken gizzards.
After dinner the ladies entertained the crowd by pitching several games of horseshoes. Then there was a game of volley ball.
At the business meeting the old officers were re-elected, Pres. E.E. Baldwin; V.P. Hattie Saunders; Sec., Georgia Baldwin. Then followed a short impromptu program opened by singing America, and a prayer by Rev. Lackey. Reading, Effie White, song round, Elfie Hallock, Emma Baldwin, Bertha Rehling; reading, Flo Baldwin, Talk on auto trip and Colorado and Wyoming, Hattie Saunders; Talk by G.E. Baldwin.

obit for Dealta Fern Baldwin, born 1909 Kansas, died 1921 California

Minneapolis Messenger, Ottawa County, Kansas, Feb. 24, 1921, page 1:
Delta Fern Baldwin
A telegram was received at Ada Tuesday from F.E. Baldwin of Riverside, California saying that their daughter, Delta Fern, died there at 11:30 Monday night.
The news came as a shock to the Ada people where the Baldwin family has so many relatives and friends. Mrs. F.E. Baldwin and three children Walter, Delta and John drove out to California last October where they had spent the winter at the home of Mrs. Baldwin's father, Mr. Dillman. Mr. Baldwin went out in December to join them.
Delta Fern Baldwin was born at Ada; July 17, 1909 and died at Riverside, California Feb. 21, 1921. For almost twelve years she had lived to brighten the lives of those about her. She was a general favorite, bright and winsome. Very early she dedicated her life to Christ and Joined the Methodist church at Ada and in the Sunday school and Junior League she was a loyal, willing worker. She will be sadly missed. Her classmates have been waiting for her return to Ada, but she will not return to us but we can some day go to her. She took the measles some days ago and later developed pleurisy. The complication was more than she could stand and she was forced to succumb. Scores of Sympathizing friends will remember the family prayerfully in this, their sad hour. M.E.S.

I am looking for ANY information on James "Henry" Baldwin and his wife Gimimie BOWYER. I have some information on Henry, but nothing on Jimimie. I am most interested in where she is from and who her parents are, but any information would be much appreciated. The only mention I can find of her is in one census with Henry. From the census I believe she was born abt 1877. Henry and Gimimie are my g-g-grandparents.

Thanks, Melinda

Hi I am completely stuck with my ancestors.
I have a Louisa Baldwin born in NSW, Australia in 1843 according to her marriage certificate. She married a William Heard in 1861 in Sydney. Her parents are
Thomas Baldwin and Bridget Owens. I cannot find any information on them at all. All I know is that they were married in St Mary;s Cathedral in Sydney in 1845. I believe Bridget's parents were Josiah and Anne Owens, but know nothing else. Does anyone have any information on who Thomas's family might be?

I am trying to find the birthplace in Tennessee of an ancestor of mine named Louisiana A. Baldwin, and also who her parents were. She was born 6 January 1829. She married Henderson A. Holland in Fayette county, IL in 1848. She had at least 10 children by him before he died in 1879, at which time they were living in Garfield county, WA. Louisiana, who was known as Lucy in most records I have found, lived in Portland, OR during the last few years of her life, possibly with her son John or with her daughter Sarah. She died 15 January 1905 and is buried in Lone Fir cemetery in Portland.

Hannah Baldwin confusion

What I am finding on Hannah (1690 – 1746), said to the daughter of John (1675 – 1732) & Lydia [1683 – 1738] (Harrison) Baldwin of Newark, NJ and the wife of Thomas Lyon (1692 – 1758), does not make sense. If Hannah were born in 1690, I don’t see how this John Baldwin born in 1675 could have been her father, nor Lydia born in 1683 to be her mother.
As things stand for now I have Hannah4, John3, John2, Nathaniel1 based on Charles Candee Baldwin’s “The Baldwin Genealogy” and Sidney Elizabeth Lyon’s “Lyon Memorial”, vol.2 . While I do not agree with this pedigree, my searching for a better one has not hit the jackpot. Can anyone help?
1844 Moses Baldwin Family Bible

I picked up the family Bible of Moses Baldwin at a garage sale. Moses (1825-1901) married Dorothy Radford Stephens (1829-1909) on 3/25/1847. It has eight pages of handwritten genealogical information. Most of it concerns their children and their spouses. The information appears to be updated until around 1920. Moses was the grandson of Edward (1768-1820) and Seleigh Baldwin (1781-1863) and the son of Edward Baldwin (1801-1876) and Susannah Harter Baldwin (1792-1863). Moses died on 4/3/1901 in Yates Center, KS. The Bible was printed in 1844 by the American Bible Society. The front cover is loose. The pages are split into two big sections with very many loose pages. There is a lot of foxing on the pages but good quality paper was used so it is not brittle or yellow.
Contact me if you have any interest in its information. I created a family tree using its information and some census information but the Bible lists many other people who I have not included or researched.
obit for Henry Gilbert Baldwin, born Vermont 1836, died Kansas 1894

Minneapolis Messenger, Ottawa County, Kansas, April 12, 1894, page 4:
Henry G. Baldwin was born in Vermont, 1836, and died at his home in Ottawa county, Kansas, April 7th, 1894. Dec. 17, 1861, he enlisted in Co. I, 8th Vt. Infantry, discharged June 23rd, 1864. He was married to Nellie Fisher December 21st, 1861. During his term of service he participated in twenty-two battles, and was severely wounded at Port Hudson, where he lay three days on the field without water and when found fever had set in and from that his wound came very near death, but a strong constitution carried him through. The deceased was converted and received the ordinance of christian baptism and joined the M.E. church under the ministrations of Rev. James Phillips in Feb., 1876, since which time he has led a consistent, earnest christian life. He was a kind and indulgent father, a tender and loving husband, and how much he will be missed in the family circle only the stricken ones will ever know. He had been a helpless sufferer for a number of years from rheumatism resultant from wounds and exposure in the army, but bore it all patiently, never for a moment questioning God's will concerning himself. A man of deep and abiding patriotism, he ever tried to instill into the minds of his children the virtues of love and veneration for the old flag. He bid all his old comrades an affectionate good-bye, saying that he loved them all. His remains were taken in charge by the Griffin post, of which he was an honored member, and buried after the beautiful burial service of the G.A.R., the funeral sermon being preached by the chaplin of the Post, Rev. H.R. Gouldin. About four years ago he selected as the text for his funeral service the 7th verse of the 116th Psalm: "He hath returned unto his rest." Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of the saints

Baldwin, in Fountain township, on Wednesday, July 6th, Ezra Baldwin, aged 87 years, 3 months, and 9 days.
He was born and resided in Vermont until 1866, when he removed to Iowa, where he resided until 1873, when he sold his farm and came to Kansas, several of his children having precede him. His devoted wife had died in Iowa previous to his removal to Kansas.
For several years past he has made his home with his son H.G. Baldwin. He was the father of 11 children, six of whom survive him -- a daughter in Iowa, a son in California, and four sons in this county.
Mr. Baldwin was in his prime a man of great industry and force of character, and has since his youth been a consistent christian. He was a loyal and generous friend, and those who knew him will regret his departure and extend their sympathy to the mourning relatives

Dr R B Baldwin (obit) d: 1883 Hutchinson, KS

(newspaper clippping)

The funeral services of the late Dr. R. B. Baldwin occurred at his residence on Main street, last Sabbath at 1 o’clock. The Dr. has been a great sufferer for years, paralysis and Bright’s disease of the kidneys being the trouble, but he was ever patient and bore up under al his heavy afflictions with wonderful fortitude. He leaves a wife who was truly noble and devoted. Day and night, year in and year out, did Mrs. Baldwin wait upon and care for, tenderly and lovingly, her afflicted husband, learning to regard it as a privilege rather than a duty. The services were conducted by the Knight Templars, a special car bringing down thirty-five from Newton, assisted by the Blue Lodge and Odd Fellow orders of this city, both of which he was a member. The Chicago Comedy Co.’s band was procured for the occasion and added much to the ceremonies. After a few appropriate remarks by Rev. Shockley, the Knight Templars took charge and performed the last rites according to their beautiful service. An immense crowd of people were in attendance.

Hutchinson News Weekly
Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas
March 29, 1883
page- 5 *** column – 3

<

Hi

I have been struggling for months to find any further info on John Baldwin, born about 1786 in Norfolk. These few details have come from searching backwards as far as his son, Benjamin Baldwin who was born in 1812 in Brockdish, Norfolk.

There are a couple of possibilities on Ancestry but this far back it seems impossible to confirm details! Nothing on LDS seems to pan out, though Genuki suggests their Norfolk coverage is poor.

Any assistance gratefully received.

In her early life she became a Christian and united with the Ada Methodist church, of which she was a faithful and active member until she was transferred to the Church Triumphant, in that land which is the Home of the Soul. She was interested in not only her church, but in her community, in her neighbors and friends. She will be sadly missed.
She was a loving wife and mother. Her Christian faith and cheerfulness in the midst of her illness, was beautiful to behold. She bore her suffering patiently and without complaint.
She is survived by her husband John McCullick of the home; Earl R. McCullick of Salina, and Chester C. McCullick of Minneapolis; one brother, S.W. Baldwin, of Delphos; and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Ireland and Mrs. Foster Beichley, both of Ada; three grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Ada Methodist church. Rev. William Little was in charge. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bacon, Mrs. Gilbert Bacon, Ellis Hallock with Mrs. Walter Wood as pianist. Pallbearers were: Rolla Hogarty, Fred Sidener, Ray Coatney, Henry Baccus, Harold Mountain and Lee Van Meter. Burial was in Fairview cemetery at Ada

My 3rd great grandfather, Joel J. Emmes who died 1879 in Hammond, St. Lawrence County, New York, left a will. In his will it says: "I give grant bequeath and devise the sum of ten dollars to each of my Grand Children. [which are then named] and J. Key Baldwin son of my adopted Daughter Loesa
"Badwin" as a memento from their Grand Father."

I've determined that this probably should read Jakey Baldwin & Louisa Baldwin.

Does anyone know of these Baldwin people?

They are not mentioned as heirs in the probate section of the will.
The Elusive Baldwins

I am trying to find any insormation on my Grandmother's family.Father's name William Baldwin. Earl Baldwin, David Baldwin, are names of his sons. Margaret (my grandmother) married at 17 to Willie West and moved to Maryland. She said that her father and brothers moved there also. Grandma had black hair with a white streak in it even when she was younger. Grandma died in the early 80's. Aunt Sharon (her daughter) had some pictures of grandma's, but when Aunt Sharon passed away the pictures were all scattered about. If you know of this family or any of the brothers please contact me. I am the eldest daughter of Earl David West. Grandma had--- Sharon Elizabeth---Willie JR.-- Earl David -- and Leroy Marion. Later she raised Doris known to everyone as Dinky. Thanks for your time.

In the 1870 Census, John, (age 31) Joseph, Edwin and Dorothy Baldwin (age 59)lived with Catherine (age 38), Christian (age 18), Martha and Amanda Bauers.
These poeple are definitely my derect family line.
Otheer census reports from previous decades hve these families living, sometimes together and sometimes next door, back before the Revolution.
