Greetings All,

I am trying to connect with any Ballard's or Boland's of MS and Arkansas. If anyone can assist me, I'm looking for info on my Greatgrandfather Jeff Ballard [1875 - 1945] of Monroe County MS (Vicksburg) and his wife Emma (maiden name Boland). They moved to Children born to them were Alice, Jeff, Jesse, Mary, R L (my granddad). Also, my dad remembers hearing of a Lucy Ballard or Lucile as his wife as well.

Looking to find the lineage to Ballard's in Mississippi, Arkansas, Michigan, and Illinois. If there's anything avail in a Ballard Bible that would be appreciated.

Any info would be helpful, please contact me at thoward321@hotmail.com.

Thanks, Theresa

Thank you for your suggestions. I've previously reviewed both of these but can find no info in them that positively links my Sarah (there are many Sarah's in the pedigree but none linked to a marriage with Simeon Young) in all the info available on the internet and Ancestry.com and all associated links. There has been no postings in a couple of years and I had hoped to compare with someone more familiar with this James Ballard line. I certainly could have missed something and will review again.

Jennet Ballard in Monroe County, Alabama

I'm trying to research my 4th gr-grandmother, Jennet (maiden name unknown) Ballard to see if I can find documentation on who her husband was. She was born 12 Dec 1808 in Georgia. Census records indicate her father was born in Georgia and her mother was born in Ireland.

Jennet is first found by name in the 1850 census for Monroe County, Alabama. However, I think she was living in Monroe County before well before then as later census records indicate her oldest child was born in Alabama in about 1826.

Apparently her husband had died sometime before the 1850 census as only Jennet and 3 of her youngest children are listed in the household in that census record.

A search of family trees on Ancestry doesn't help...all of the trees listing Jennet have her husband as Hardy Ballard. This is information that was originally copied from my tree by others here and I now believe this is incorrect. I believe Hardy's surname was actually Bullard, not Ballard.

Does anyone have a male Ballard in their line that married a lady named Jennet? I've also found her name spelled Janett and Jenett. Oh and all of Jennet's children indicate in their census records that their father was born in South Carolina.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Lynn, you state that William M. Ballard was the son of Barclay Ballard..What proof do you have? I am still working on this line and I believe that he is the son of Richard and Nancy Ballard from North Carolina..It would be so much easier if you were right, but I can't find any outstanding proof yet. William M. Ballard died in Bryan County, OK> abt 1880. and his wife married Mr. Laha. Wm M. Ballard is the gr. grandfather to me. CAn you help me straighten this out. Any help will be so greatly appreciated.

Ok so I found them living in 1900 in the same place as they are in 1910. And charles listed his age as having been born in DEC. of 1866 which puts him about 16 when they married. while that is possible back then if he might have been an orphan he still would have had some kind of guardian maybe. but then Benjamin was born according to the census in 1881 and if they didnt marry until 1882. then it is possible that they married in MISS. since that is where Benjamin was born according to the 1900 census.

I wish I could help more than telling you things you probably already know. I hate Brick Walls. They are hard to get thru but maybe when the 1940 census comes out it will shed more light on this family for you. I would be interested in hearing if you ever find out for sure who his parents were.

Good luck.
Sue

We've kicked the 1865 or 1855 birth year back and forth for years, still don't know the truth. His death certificate indicates June 10, 1855. That information was provided by Hosea, my grand-father, but he also didn't provide the names of Charlie's parents... not sure he knew much more...

The names of their other children are on the tree you attached before. That as accurate as I have.

I have the 1920 census with Charlie and Mahalia in Franklin County, listing him at 62 and her at 49. Her death certificate from 1931 shows her as 62.

Still looking....

I understand, but every census that I have found charles and Mahala on since 1910 gives his age as him being born in 1855/58 time frame. and the one I found in 1880 living in Franklin Alabama fits your Charles. He was living with a Ledbetter family. The 1940 comes out in April and he should still be on it as well having not dying until 1941. That census should also have a more accurate age on it since they got a little better by then of taking info. I have been looking for my husbands greatgrandfather for 30 years and although I have a photo of him. I am no closer to proving who his parents were than I was 30 years ago. but its out there somewhere just have to keep looking until I find it.

Did you say you found them in 1900.

What are the names of all Charles and mahalas children besides Thomas and Hosea.\
Sue

Sue,

I provided Lynn that tree some years ago. Hosea Ballard was my grandfather. I had never heard of a Joseph Ballard until a few days ago. As far as I'm concerned there's still some doubt as to George and Mary being Charlie's parents. I've seen no proof of that. I have seen a Charlie at 15 in the 1880 census living with his father Frank and mother Caroline living in Russell County, Alabama. There is also a daughter named Alice and three other children. This Charlie was 15 at the time which would have him born in 1865. But I can't prove either one is my Charlie. I have a good handle on Mahalia's line, but not Charlie. Even when you look at Winnie, there's no real connection to Charlie that I've found.

We'll keep looking...

Thanks, Mac

I looked up the 1870 census for Alabama, Franklin co. has two young adults named Winnie Ballard b 1850 Ala. living with a John and Anna Rollins, as a domestic servant, and a Samuel Ballard age 17 living with a John and Eliza Rollins.

I am going out on a limb here and say that these are probably brother and sister and that the parents might be dead by this time and the kids farmed out to Relatives if indeed Marys last name was Rollins, this seems to be a strong possiblity that they are related.
found this on an older post. it might be something you have seen before.

Samuel Ballard
Tess (View posts) Posted:	11 Jan 2000 12:39PM GMT
I am looking for info on Samuel Ballard....he had 6 children, 3 were daughters, the other 3 were George, Albort and Jack.....Jack Ballard married Cora Sumers and they had 5 children, Clyde, Grady, Ila, Ola and Grover.....any information would be appreciated.....thank you....please email me at...
tessaundra@webtv.net
Reply Report Abuse Print
Re: Samuel Ballard
pamelajean98 (View posts) Posted:	26 May 2009 4:01AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Ballard/Rollins
I have a Jack Ballard that was married to a Winnie Rollins and they had a daughter Grady Ballard born 1870 in franklin county alabama.
Sue,

My Charlie Ballard died in Belmont, Tishmingo, Mississippi in 1941. I have a copy of his death certificate. My grandfather, Hosea, provided the info for the certificate but didn't list anything about his grand-parents. Mahalia died in Red Bay, Alabama in 1931. I got her parents info from her death cert. All these folks lived around Tishmingo County Mississippi or Red Bay, Alabama. You're welcome to check my info on here. The George Ballard and Mary Rollins part is still a mystery to me...

Thanks,
mac

Any new information on Margaret? I found evidence of a family letter that says Sally Ballard Acre had a brother named William. Also stating that Sally was born in West Virginia. (It would have to have been Virginia at the time.) I've got a Marg* as head of household as far back as 1810 in Kentucky.

Ok my G-Grandmother was Winnie Ballard, I never knew her but through census records and information passed on from my Dad and Aunt I know that her brother or half brother was John Huston Rollins. I read a letter that my aunt had that was from him to Winnie and in it he talked about a Charlie Dow ballard and a Joseph Ballard. I know Winnies mother's name was Mary Rollins before she married George. I also found some info on internet that Winnie was married to a Jack ballard. That is about all I know about them. Oh and Winnie had one daughter named Martha Melinda Louella Grady Ballard. I can provide info on their relationship to the Williams family if you need it but I don't know anything about another sister.

Annie

My Ballards were Quakers out of VA.
My line runs thru William and Philadelphia

William and Mary Bryon/Byrum VA
David and Mary Brock VA
Nathan and Martha Bond VA
Samuel and Milicent White VA
Henry Clay and Mary Candace Rusie Indy
William Edgar and Jessie Reynolds, INDY

There was only one thing I found that might have matched your info but it was a death record in Canada and the date was 1909.
George Percival Ballard and Mary Elizabeth Rollins had a son named Harry C. Ballard who died in 1909 in Canada.

You have tried the local library and funeral home for obits for charlie I suppose. did his death record not list his parents anything that was helpful at all. its so hard to find out things when they didnt put anything down for us to find.

I also found an Alice Ballard married to a James Carter with a daughter named Willi living in Shelby co. ALA. around 1923.
So far that is all I have found

Have you found a marriage record for Charles and Mahala, they married around 1882 according to the 1910 census.
I am assuming while still in Alabama.

I will keep looking.
Sue
Pamela and I have been looking for any information concerning George or Mary for a long time. Winnie was Charlie's step-sister. We think there was also a younger sister named Alice.

Still looking...
