Hi there nice to meet you ! I actually have heard from another decent of Heber's if you want I can connect you but will check with them first... don't see a problem but will be polite nonetheless lol.... I went through my papers and found the list of William Bamford's children Ivan Bev Viola Norman Heber Vic Arthur Alf. Arthur is my Great Great Grandfather... he married Maude Howe and had Lyle and Karl. Have you been to Streetsville yet. The library there has a large archive of information and was a great resource. I did the little that I did with my Mom and haven't really touched it since she died.... but it seems to keep coming back to me so I might just take it up again... if you would like to email me at archer_janet@hotmail.com you are more than welcome to. Take care and look forward to hearing from you. Janet

My gr gr father was William married to Mary Abigail Street. Their son Heber married to Bertha Johnson was my grandfather and Walter married to Anne Craik were my mom and dad. I have been researching the family on both the Bamford and Street sides. Found out on the Street side our ancestors were Loyalists from England. Haven't been doing this for very long so some of my info has been sort of hit and miss. All I had to go by was family information. Trying to prove it is sometimes difficult but I think I will keep trying
Hi,

I really don't know if I can offer you any help at all but we have a George Morrey Bamford (1861) in our family, born of Mary Ann Morrey and Charles Bamford. George Morrey 1811 is the father of Mary Ann. Mary appears to have a sister called Ellen Morrey, born 1835, and other siblings George, Vanney and Richard Morrey. As our tree is not complete I have no idea if your Harry is related, but I was intrigued by the "Morrey Bamford" as this is also my great, great grandfather's name.

Please do contact me if you think any of what I have said is useful and I'll be happy to offer you what little information I have.

Many thanks,

Sapphire

BAMFORD Irene Teresa (nee YOUNG) 1920-2010; Delta, BC, Canada

Irene Teresa Bamford (nee Young)

Irene was born June 5, 1920, Swansea, S. Wales, Great Britain. During WWII Irene was a trained member of the Royal Nursing Corps. While on a weekend leave to visit her family in The Mumbles (a small fishing village to the west of Swansea) she attended a dance with her sister, Wynn, at the Cinderella Ballroom, where she met a Young Canadian Airman, Douglas Bamford. They danced, fell in love and were married nine months later, March 15, 1943. A short time later, Irene said goodbye to her Mother, Father and sister, and sailed aboard a troop hospital ship that was bringing wounded Canadian soldiers home. She waited in the Halifax area for Douglas to catch up with her. He then had to return to Britain in the Fall of 1944, while Irene headed west to Prince Rupert, British Columbia. She stayed with Doug`s parents in Smithers, for a while, until after their Son, Ken, was born January 19, 1945 in Prince Rupert. When Doug returned to Canada, they moved to Vancouver, BC, living in the Point Grey area, where their daughter, Claire, was born May 3, 1947.

As a military family, Irene and Doug had an opportunity to meet and get to know many people at the many bases that they lived on. Irene made many friends wherever they resided. She was often considered the Nurse-in-residence at many of the bases, tending to many a child's cuts and scrapes and anything else that did not require a physician's attention.

When Doug retired and went to work for Pacific Western Airline they carried on their travelling: going to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Jordan, Israel, Arabia, all of the mainland European countries, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Mexico, throughout the U.S.A., then spent many winters as snow birds in Arizona. After Arizona they changed their winter venue to 3 months in Aruba for many years. When it became more difficult for Irene to travel such long distances, they spent their winters in Hawaii for two more years, making friends wherever they went.

Irene and Doug were married for almost 68 years before she passed away in her sleep, after a very brief illness and congestive heart failure, on December 13, 2010, at the KinVillage Care Home, in Tsawwassen, where they both lived, with Douglas sleeping in an adjoining room. The Staff of the Care Home were wonderful, supportive and caring during Irene`s stay in the home. Many thanks to the two ladies who came from Delta Hospice on the last evening to sit with Irene during her last moments, while her daughter Claire took a brief break.

Irene was predeceased by her son, Ken (Jennifer) and sister, Vera. She was survived by her husband, Douglas, her sister, Wynn, and her daughter, Claire (Barry). She will be sadly missed by her five grandchildren: Teresa (Bob) Sampson, Jim (Joanne) Kluey, Melissa (Shawn) Kluey, Craig (Sarah) Bamford, and Shannon (Michael) Grey. Also, by her eleven great-grandchildren: Ken, Connor, Jahcoba, Shannon, Lucas, Jaeden, Michael, Raven, Katrina, Trinity, Drake, extended family and many friends.

Irene helped and touched a lot of people`s lives during her life's journey and will be sadly missed.

A Joint Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at All Saints (Ladner) Anglican Church, located at 4755 Arthur Drive, in Ladner. The cross street is Ladner Trunk Road. All are welcome to the service. If you wish to attend the reception, following the celebration, please advise either Claire (604) 940-0236, or Melissa (604) 816-8466, or Terri (604) 940-2918, allowing us to give the caterer a rough head count for refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if donations were made to the KinVillage Care Home, 4510 – 10th Avenue, Delta, BC V4M 3X8, in loving memory of Irene Bamford.
BAMFORD Douglas William Ralph (1917-2011); Delta, BC, Canada

Douglas William Ralph Bamford
Doug was born May 12, 1917, Vancouver, British Columbia. He grew up with his parents and brother, Alfred, on a homestead outside of Smithers, BC. As a young man, Doug worked in the lumber camps until he went to college in the USA to obtain his Diploma in Aircraft Engineering. By the time he had finished his education, WWII had broken out in Europe. When it became clear that the war was headed toward Britain, Doug joined the Royal Canadian Air Force January 1940, only to be told Canada was not involved in the war at that time. With their permission, in the Summer of 1940 Doug then travelled to Britain and joined the RAF (British Air Force) and served with them, maintaining their aircraft in the north of Scotland. When Canada then decided to send troops into the conflict in 1941, Doug was absorbed back into the RCAF contingent over there.

During a weekend furlough in the Summer of 1942, Doug and his best friend travelled from England to Wales, during a blackout, to attend a dance that was being held at the Cinderalla Ballroom in The Mumbles, Swansea. There he met two sisters. He was at once smitten by Irene Young, a young nurse. After, he could not get her out of his mind and knew, with certainty, that she was the one he would spend the rest of his life with. They married in Swansea, March 15, 1943. Once married, Doug could not wait to get Irene to Canada and safety. Arrangements were made for her to travel to Canada and wait for him in Halifax. On leave, he met up with Irene there and made arrangements for her to travel to his parent's home in Smithers, BC.

When the war was over, Doug travelled back to British Columbia to bring his wife and young son, Kenneth, born January 19, 1945 in Prince Rupert, while he was overseas, to Vancouver, BC. While living in Point Grey and working at the Air Force Base on Sea Island, Richmond, their daughter, Claire, was born May 3rd, 1947.

Doug's Air Force career took him and his family back to Britain twice more for several years each time. Between the tours in Britain, at Luffingham then Langar, he served at Camp Shilo, Brandon, Manitoba. While living near Brandon, Doug became a member of the Brandon Masonic Lodge and remained so until his death. In 1955 the family returned to Canada and waited for housing at Sea Island, living there until Doug was transferred to Downsview, Toronto, Ontario in 1962. Spring of 1963, Doug was sent to Yemen, in the Middle East, to be part of a Peace Keeping contingent for six months. His job was to keep the aircraft flying while dealing with all the damage the sand did to the engine parts and while dodging bullets that were constantly being fired over the walls that protected the enclave. After returning to Downsview in the late Fall, 1963, Doug worked on the base until his retirement from the Forces in the Summer of 1966.

Once retired, Doug and Irene returned to Richmond, BC., where he went to work for Pacific Western Airlines, providing both with the opportunity to once again travel the world, visiting: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Israel, all of continental Europe, Ireland, Japan, England, Wales, Mexico, throughout the USA, spending many winters in Yuma, Arizona. After Arizona, they spent several winters in Aruba (3 months each year). When Irene's back made it difficult to travel so far, they spent the next couple of winters in Hawaii. They made many friends throughout their travels and they kept in touch with them all each Christmas for many, many years.

For so long they had been inseparable, with Doug always by Irene's side. They had been married for almost 68 years before Irene passed away on December 13, 2010. By that time, the family had already been told that Doug's health was severely compromised and he would decline rapidly. He had been suffering from the ravages of Parkinson's Disease and had been legally blind and hearing impaired during the latter part of his life. Doug and Irene had been residents at the KinVillage Care Home, in Tsawwassen, BC during the last several years. After a difficult five weeks dealing with kidney failure, Doug passed away peacefully in his sleep, on January 20, 2011, to once again be with Irene. His daughter, Claire, had been by his side for much of the time after Irene died, making sure that Doug would not be lonely before it was his turn. The Staff of the Care Home were wonderful, supportive and caring during Doug`s stay in the home.

Doug was predeceased by his wife, Irene, brother, Alfred, and son, Ken.
William Bamford 1888 - 1967

I am hoping to discover more about William Bamford born in 1888 (place unknown), who died in West Palm Beach, Florida in late 1967. He married Eileen Mary Josephine Hart, born 1902 in Moradabad, India. Eileen moved to England in 1913, then emigrated to the US in 1921. Her port of arrival was NY, but the manifest says she was going to live with her uncle, a William Cottee in Philadelphia. I don't know when she married William Bamford, or when she moved to Florida. As for children, the only possible one I know of could have been "Betty", whom my late mother referred to as her "cousin Betty in Florida".
Any additional information on William Bamford, his ancestors and descendants. Almost all of my family (including me), are from England, so my ancestry subscription does not cover the US.

I am looking for information on a Robert Bamford, born about 1803 in Ireland. His wife's name is Jane, born about 1803 in Ireland. They immagrated to the United States. Not sure when or where in the North East or Mid Atlantic region of the United States they entered. The couple came into custody of a William J. Hundley/Hunley born in 1870 in Illinois, Chicago area. Census records of 1880 show the Bamford's as William J. Hundley/Hunley (seen spelling both ways) as his parents. I believe the Bamford's may have been his grandparents on his mother's side. They only information I have on his parents are his father may have been in Vermont in 1845 and his mother Vermont in 1846. Have no first names or been able to verify.

I am looking for information on a Robeert Bamford, born about 1803 in Ireland. His wife's name was Jane, also born in Ireland. They immigrated to the United States, date unknown. The only records I can find are they are listed as parents to William J. Hundley/Hunley born in December 1870 in the Chicago area of Illinois. I am thinking they are William's grandparent's on his mother's side. A cousin of mine came across some information that William J's father was born about 1845 in Vermont and that his mother was born about 1846 in Vermont. Have not been able to find any other information on the Hundley's ot the Bamford's. Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings Lois,

This is a question concerning the Yungton side or your name. I am trying to reach descendants of Caroline Youngton (B 1896 – D 1990) of Michigan. She had Alvin, William, Gilda, and Lydia as children. My Grandmother Helen (nee. Hanel) Grauberger was a cousin of hers, and I think you may be part of her extended family. If this is the case I would love to compare family tree notes. Please let me know if we have a family connection.

Thanks,
Doc Grauberger
Dear Ruth,

I just want to thank you for the information about Thomas & Elizabeth. My cousin Teresa originally posted the request as her children were doing a school project on their ancestry. I chatted with her today about your response hoping that she had your email address, but she did not. Could you e-mail me directly so we can chat. I would love to call you on the phone, as I have so many questions.

I have been the keeper of the family history on my Family Tree Maker program. I actually took pictures of all the headstones at the Pembina Crossing Cemetery so I didn't have to write the information down. I will have to go back and look for the other names you mentioned.

My mother remembers reading something about Elizabeth Stanwell's history in the Nelly McClung books. I have read 2 books already and am going to start on another of these books.

I am so happy to connect with you and would love to share more of the history on the Bamford family.

My mother is Thelma Mae Bamford daughter of William Arthur Bamford who is the son of Arthur George Bamford. Your grandma Agnes is the elder sister of Arthur.

Diana
My email is derraugh@mts.net

You might be looking for my Grandfather George Bamford who left Liverpool on the Empress of Ireland, Port of Arrival: Quebec 17 August 1911... border crossing to US 11/8/1911 (?). Brothers included a Thomas, Christopher and a Ben. There were other sibliings as well who stayed in England. Story has it that George served in WWI with the Canadian forces and that other brother must have served under the British/English forces---this could have been Thomas. The Uncle Tom I knew did not die when you stated and had a wife and raised family in Detroit area.

Re: Thomas John Bamford m. Elizabeth Standwell

Hi - I am Ruth, a grand daughter of Agnes Sarah Nicholl (b.14 Oct, 1871, nee Bamford). She was an elder sister of Arthur Bamford, which makes him my great uncle. Their parents are buried in the cemetery of St. Luke's Anglican church, Pembina Crossing (Manitou district) Manitoba; their grave stone has the dates you want. ---
However, I can give them to you here: Thomas John Bamford was born 16 May, 1834 at Gretton, Northamptonshire, England, and died 4 Dec, 1901, Manitou, Man.---
Elizabeth Wilders (nee Standwell) Bamford was born 24 Sept, 1836 in Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, and died 12 June 1911, Manitou, Man. ---
I have heard the story of the coachman and the lady-in-waiting, but don't remember who told me. If it happened, I agree that it would have been Elizabeth Standwell - but have no idea how to confirm this. ---
I was told by my Aunt Lucy Nicholl (1897-1994) that before coming to Canada (1886) Thomas Bamford worked on an estate, connected to the name 'Eaton', in the county of Rutlandshire. I think he may have been the farm manager there, where he lived with his wife and children. ---
I have looked for references to the ancestry and siblings of this couple, both on line and in old diaries. Not much so far. However, here's what I've found:--
1) parents of Elizabeth: Mr Standwell; Mary Ann Wilder(s) b 4 June, 1809.
--2) siblings of Elizabeth: Millie (b. 17 May); Annie; Susan (b Nov 10, 1833 - d 1910); Thomas Wilders Standwell (b 1838; his name appears on the electoral roll for 1865/66 on Tory Street, Wellington, New Zealand).
--3) the last name 'Johnson' was connected, but I don't know how (Arthur's elder brother was Robert Johnson Bamford - buried at the Crossing where Arthur is). I have a birthday book started by Arthur's eldest sister Mary Elizabeth Nicholl (nee Bamford - she married the Rev, E. P. Nicholl, the widowed father of the man who married my grandmother, Agnes Bamford. Which makes her both my great aunt by blood, and my step great grandmother!). It lists many people who bear this name, some with either 'Standwell' or 'Wilders' in their names so they must be related. I suspect it was 'Susan Standwell' (see above, b 10 Nov, 1833 - d 1910) who married a Mr Johnson.
--4) I have found no ancestors of Thomas John Bamford so far.

--- I hope this is helpful. If you have any other information about the ancestors we share, I would be very interested.

--- With best wishes from a distant cousin, Ruth
Thomas Bamford - Lancashire, England

I am trying to find the father of Thomas Bamford born in Lancashire England in 1837. His mother was Ann Bamford but she became a widow according to cencus records sometime before 1851. He is my great, great, great grandfather.

Thomas had a brother George (1843) and sister Sarah (1845). I cannot find any of their marriage records to identify who their father was... It may be William or a Charles but I cannot find sufficient information to support either.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,
Mathew

Hi Georgina

I am researching my family, the BAMFORD & DEAN names.
Since I wrote my last question in 2005 things have moved on. My GGG Grandfather William Bamford Married Rachel Dean in Samlesbury, He worked at Samlesbury lower hall & she lived at Samlesbury Bottoms, moving to Church Bottoms. I wanted to find out what William was doing there and if there was any records associated with the lower Hall. furthermore do you know how DEAN lane got its name. I wonder if the family had anything to do with it.

Michael
Sorry to hear that. Do you have any info on how to obtain a copy of The Bamford Saga now that she has passed? I have exhausted all possibilities in locating a copy and even tried to get a copy through ILL, but no library was willing to lend.
