Hi Fran,

My name is Sara Banbury and I grew up in Mount Elgin, about 5 minutes from Ingersoll. My grandfathers name was Jack and his siblings were Helen, Ina, and there was a pair of twins but not sure on their names exactly. The old banbury farm is still there outside of ingersoll although many things have changed. A family book was made up of the banbury chain and i believe my father still has it.

Sara

Banbury Family - Lost or forgotten relatives?

Hello all, Im trying to find out more about my Gr.Grandfather Daniel Banbury, born around 1883/8 (birth cert is hard to make out). He travelled from Ireland to New York & then returned with considerable money, which he invested in pit machinery. He married a divorcee older than him (Bridget - very riske in those days!) & Im convinced she already had three kids, Annie, Nellie & Cathy (although my mother doubts it) - & I think they then together had my grandfather Robert (Bob) & his brother James (Jim). Its my mums birthday on 18th November 2009 & Id love to find out more about her parents & descendants as a gift.

All help, tips, possibilities are so welcome since Im now drawing a blank.

Thank you!
Suzi (Suzanne)

Their son Owen Demont married Emma Edna(used the name Jean)Atkinson. Owen and Jean lived in Chicago where my father Raymond William was born and then moved to Wisconsin. After numerous vacations to California my family moved to Southern California.
Hi,

The Banbury I'm looking for is Dr. George Richard Banbury, born about 1867 in India to a British army doctor serving with the British army in India. I have him in the 1891 Okehampton, Devon census living alone at age 24. He's listed as a "registered medical practitioner GP." He had a daughter, Constance Ethel Banbury, b 2 October 1892. I've found a matching birth registration in the Devon birth register index but family history has her being born in Bristo. Dr. George Banbury also had a son, Richard George Banbury born in 1893. Dr. George Banbury died at age 27 in 1893, reportedly from appendicitis. I can't find any record of his marriage.

Any connections in common?

I tried to email you but was rejected. Your post office said there was no such address as banbury@.madhousenet.co.uk

Bruce
Wasn't able to find any trace of Susan in England. If she came to the US directly from Ireland then it will be very hard to trace. There are not many Ireland census records available. There is the Griffith's Valuation but it's sorted by county. I was able to find Susan on the 1910. I also believe I found Jacob and his family on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 in Paint Township, Clarion Co, PA. Williamsburg is in Clarion Co. I have attached the records. If this is the right Jacob Myers then he and Susan did not marry in 1879. What year was the eldest child born? Is it possible that Jacob was a second husband being that he is 2 years younger than Susan?

Decided to take one more stab at it and I think I found Susan on the 1900 census. She is at the top of the page with 2 children , a widow, living in Squaw Grove, DeKalb, Illinois. What do you think? Some information fits, some doesn't.

I have found while researching my own family you can't assume anything or trust people's memories. It's not until you find the records and documents do you have the real story and sometimes it will suprise you.

Take care
Rose

If Susan and Jacob were married in 1879 then they should be together on the 1880 somewhere. They are not on the 1881 UK or Canada. Didn't find any other immigration record for Susan other than what I mentioned before. She is not on the Boston passenger list. She could have sailed to Canada then went to Illinois. Ancestry is till updating the 1900. Maybe Susan will turn up later.

Rose

I think I found Susan on the 1930, age 72, b in England, widow, living in Genoa, De Kalb, Ill.
Last name is spelled Meyer. Age at marriage is 23 which would make the marriage year about 1881. Shows immigration year as 1870. Do you think this might be her?
I can't find her on any previous census records. Since I don't know where and when Jacob was born, I can't pin him down either. The only immigration record I found for Susan Banbury arrived in May 1880 age 23, with her father and 3 brothers. They sailed from England but originated in Ireland.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

Rose
