Charles Bangs & Wife Mary - Chicago IL late 1800s

I'm looking for more info on Charles Bangs (sometimes incorrectly identified as Bango in censuses) and wife Mary Duignan.

Charles Bangs was born in Illinois in 1876 and Mary Duignan was born in Scotland (but is of Irish descent) in 1877.

Their children are John, Catherine, Arthur, and Walter Bangs.

Charles' listed his parents birthplace as Alsace-Lorraine (father) and Germany (mother)

I am specifically looking for info on parents for either Charles or Mary, as well as siblings for either.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

Farmer in section 8, post office Rutland,Ill, born in Franklin County ,Mass on July 11 1808, came to Illinois in 1845,and to this county in 1855; Republican,Congregational; owns 100 acres of land in the estate, valued at $5,000; married first to Mary H Phillips, born in Chili,N.Y., 1813; died June 8 1842;second marriage March 3 1844 to Margaret Howard, born in Newburg,Lancaster County, England March 5th 1819; has 6 children living; Fidella A. born March 22 1837, Charles L. April 14 1840;died March 8 1877; Mary H. born April 18 1842, Sarah A born April 5th 1846; Amelia born Dec 23rd 1848; died March 6 1854; Jennie C born July 16 1850; I.Edward born Oct 18th 1853, Mark H. Dec 25th 1860; Mr.Bangs was Justice of the Peace for 4 years in Michigan.
Charles served in the civil war.

Hi Brian,

I believe that we are related from reading your posts on here. I am the Grand daughter of William Herbet Bangs also and mostly known as Bill Bangs, who married Lillian O Rouse, Their had a daughter called Barbara Ann Bangs.

My Grand father had a sister called Edith who married a Pugh and had a son called John Pugh.

I do not know much of my Grand Fathers side of the family as i was very young when he passed away. I am very interested in learning and finding out more on my family's side.

Adrian Bangs would be my Great Grand Uncle.

I have contact with Diane in New Zealand, but have not heard from her in while, i also have contact with Andy also but i have not heard from them both in a while.

I have been researching the Bangs side of my family since 2000 but stopped for several years as i came to a complete stand still, i have since re-started this year again.

Would be nice to hear from you and if you have any further information on the Bangs family that would be appreciated.

I'm pretty certain you are talking about my great-great-grandfather. The dates and places are correct.

My grandmother was Lena Bangs Murdock b. 1873 in Antwerp, Van Buren MI
Her father was Joshua T. Bangs, b. 1841 in Antwerp, Van Buren MI
His father was Joshua Bangs, b. 1803 in Vermont
and, finally his father was ANOTHER Joshua Bangs b. Unknown probably in New Hampshire. You can see my tree at:

My grandmother was Lena Bangs Murdock and I'm trying to flesh out her side of the family. I'm just beginning to realize how big it is! If I have everything correct her parents were

Okay, in the 1910 census apparently the other son's name is really JUSTINE, not JUSTIN.

1900 census:

Colorado > Saguache > Crestone > District 115

W. A. Bangs born Oct. 1861, married 13 years, born KY (father born ?, mother born PA)

Louise Bangs, wife, born Sept. 1867, mother of 2, 2 still living, born Utah (father born MO, mother born OH)

Lynn Bangs, daughter, born Jan. 1888, born Utah

Justine Bangs, son, born Dec. 1897, born CO

William's listed as a hack driver.

In 1920 Hewitt's living in East Pagosa Springs, Archuleta, Colorado, District 1. He's a roomer with Ralph & Tena Rose. He's an engineer in the mining industry. (Ralph's listed as a miner.)

You may have already found this, but I figured I'd post it anyway.

The 1910 census shows the following Bangs family in Crestone, Saguache, Colorado, District 0139:

William, 47, born KY (parents born Iowa)

Louise, 42, wife, married 23 years, born Utah, mother of 4, 3 still living (father born MO, mother born OH)

Justin, 12, son, born CO

Hewitt, 10, son, born CO

It looks like William's a miner in a quartz mine and Louise is a cook in a boarding house.

My brother Mike and I and my Mom and Dad came down to spend Easter with you all. I remember what a good swimmer you were for your age. I have just checked my Grand fathers Birth Cert on here and it shows me that you also saved the same files to your tree on 4th May 2009. Their is only 2 William Bangs showing on this and these being: William A Bangs mothers maiden name Clark and William H Bangs mothers maiden name Reynolds. I wonder from seeing that you have also saved the same file if we do have any connections or if we are relative down the line. Thanks again. Sonia

My grandfather William H Bangs was born in 1914 and sadly passed away 18th March 1982. His sister Edith was born 1910 and sadly passed away around 1982 from the records that i have retrieved from here. I have also managed to locate their mother as being Reynolds ? Does their mother have any connections on ur family tree with the William & Edith that u have ? Also i have managed to locate their residences when my grandfather and my grandmother travelled and lived in NZ from 1949 (At the age of 35 yrs) residences and 1954 residences - This was Napier, Hawkes Bay NZ and the address showing on the document is saying 20 Shakespear Road. My mother Barbara Ann Bangs also travelled with them at the time and her age was 5 or 6 yrs old. I know when my mother was alive that thier was still a relative living in NZ, I do not have her name. Is their any way if you can find out any more info with ur family in NZ. Thank you for ur quick reply, much appreciated. Regards Sonia

Hi Sonia,well i dont know if i can help but i have a william Bangs born Dec 10 1914 and he had a sister Edith born 1910 Im still in contact with the Bangs family in N/Z but they have not said anything to me about a William Herbert Bangs but i only made contact with them about two years ago.

I am trying to trace my mothers family tree and my mums maiden name was Bangs (Barbara Ann). My mum was an only child to William Herbert Bangs born 1914 and Lilian Oliva Bangs (Rouse). Their travelled to Napier in New Zealand in 1949 and started their for about 4 to 5 yrs. My Grandfather had a sister called Edith who married a Pugh and had a son called John. Mr. Herman A. Bangs died at his residence in Chatsworth on Tuesday, March 16, aged 83 years, 5 months and 4 days. He was born in Addison County, Vermont, October 12, 1796. He came to Lawrence County, New York in 1824 and removed to Illinois in 1856. He was married in 1827. From this union there were six children and they were all present at the funeral of their father. Rev. Mr. Minnerly preached the sermon from Job 14:14.

I'm cross-posting this from the Bang message board since many of the Bang families added an 's' to their name.

I found a Louisiana marriage certificate for a Richard James and Lillie Bang, daughter of Edward Bang and Hattie Morie, from 1927. I'm trying to figure out who Edward's parents are to see if this is my Bang family.

Also, the marriage certificate states that Lillie was a native of Osakulgee, MS. Any idea where that is/was? I'm wondering if this was just an incorrect spelling, but of what?

My grandfather, William Bangs, born in Canada around 1878, both parent from Massachusetts, William came back to RI sometime before his marriage to Maude Haile from the Hailes of Warren, RI in 1917. I believe William or a sibling were twins, unusual to live through childbirth in those days.Names of Williams parents and prior ancesters have stumped me, my brothers have middle names of ancestery connections Marston and Colby. Any connected info on Bangs family would be muchly appreciated.

I was wondering if you could help me find the children of Bessie Bongo 1899 Odanah, WI. She became Bachand, not sure the husbands name. The children Earl J 1921, Louis B. 1922 and Ruth Janet 1924. The last I seen of them was Census 1937. So when are they going to get out newer census?
