My name is Margaret MaryAnn Phillips-Ellis, and I live in Palmerston North, New Zealand. I have been reading a number of informations. Ramsay Banks:- 1802, is my great-great-great-grandfather. My great-great-grandfather was
Andrew Phibbs. His wife Mary Banks(was her birth name) was Ramsay's daughter, Mary had a son named Ramsay, and that was in 1862. Ramsay had a twin brother named Robert. I am not too sure as to what information I can let you have, for I am unsure as to what you are interested in. I love to share what I have. I have been working on this since 1978, and have gone back as far as 1489 in the Phibbs. I would love to hear from anyone. Thanks for reading this.

Hi: The Banks that are connected to my family are from Caroline County, Virginia. Their connection seems to be through marriage. They married into the Young Family (children of Washington & Juliann Young) Their names were:
Cora Banks, Edward Banks, Thomas Banks, Lillian (Lelia) Banks, and Randolph Banks. I am doing research on those names to see if there is a connection between these Banks.
My ancestors are also considered Mulatto/Indian Descent. In the process of doing DNA. Hope we can help each other.
Thank you
Nancy

His son Ralph (pron. Rafe) was the father of my Thomas BANKS, William's grandson. Thomas' wives were (1) Sarah CHANDLER, (2) Elizabeth CHANDLER, (3) Susannah PRIDDY. Thomas d 1789 Elbert Co., Ga., and is buried Granville Co., NC.

Most likely William was a cousin or nephew of Richard BANKES of York, Me.
Abigail

To Carolyn,
Thru DNA testing Ray H. Banks has discovered that my Banks line, William BANKS/BANKES 1643-1709, of King & Queen Co., Va., is closely related to the Richard BANKS/BANKES family of York, Me. This is a most important discovery. Judging from the dates they were probably, either cousins, or nephew and uncle. I descend from Thomas BANKS d 1789 Elbert Co., Ga., who was Wm.'s grandson.
Abigail Banks Dennison
mabanks4@yahoo.com

Bonnie,
Are any of you aware of the work on all the BANKS/BANKES families of US, Canada, Grt. Britain, done by Ray H. Banks? He has discovered thru DNA testing that my BANKS line, William BANKES of King and Queen Co., Va., is closely related to the Richard BANKES family of York Maine. They may have been brothers, they may have been cousins. This is a rather important discovery. I will get back to y'all with William's dates as I'm not looking at them at the moment. Richard predates Wm.'s landing in US and is more than likely a cousin. I descend from Thomas BANKS, a grandson of William's who died in Elbert Co., Ga. in 1789; I believe his birthdate is 1707 Va., but can't remember. Thomas' descendants are known as, "The Banks of Elbert", meaning Elbert Co., Ga.
Abigail Banks Dennison
mabanks4@yahoo.com

Trying to trace my Banks side farther back.

James Banks was born 28 Jul 1835 in Co. Mayo, Ireland. He was the son of Anthony Banks (b. abt 1815 Ireland) and Ann Burke (same). He and his parents came to Pennsylvania in the 1840's. He married Alice Hobbs on 30 Jun 1857.

Some biographies online mention him as a "descendent of the english sculptor Thomas Banks (1735-1805)". However, when I read up on Thomas, it looks like he only had one daughter, who married a man surnamed Forstar. Therefore, there are no "Banks" descendants from Thomas. Maybe this was just a family myth, or Thomas was a member of the extended family.

I can't seem to find any othe info on Anthony Banks or Ann Burke. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Update again, made a little mistake, William Banks - b. abt. 1840 from PA and his wife Sarah Jane (Cooper) Banks aren't my 3rd Great-Grandparents but my 3rd great grand uncle and aunt. William and his brother Jesse had two son's both name Alfred Newton Banks. One born in September 1859 and other abt 1862, William's son later when by Newton and he died in October 2, 1936. While Jesse's Son Alfred is my 2nd Great Grandfather, make Jesse Banks my 3nd Great Grandfather with his wife Rebecca McConahy.

An old bible was donated to our local genealogical society with a request that we try to find relatives of the people named inside. The bible is in very poor shape, with the pages loose and crumbling. The bible is “The Pronouncing Edition HOLY BIBLE” by Prof. S. W. Williams, published by A. J. Holman & Co., 1891.

There is information on one page only, a marriage listing for William Banks and Sarah Jane Cooper. The page says:
“William Banks and Sarah Jane Cooper was married July the 3, 1856.”

I am not related to this family and have no further information on them. I can scan the page and send you a copy if you want.
Jim
