I am searching for any information on Christopher Bannister of Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin. He was born abt 1816 in New York and married to A. E. or Armena? (according to the 1850 census) He was the postmaster in Theresa. I would love to find the name of his wife. It looks like she died before the 1860 census. Any additional help would be appreciated.
-elwdent

Isaac died there. Rachael returned to Catahoula.

She eventually married Samuel Sayre. Children from her first marriage were raised by their maternal grandmother, Lydia Banister, when Rachael moved to New Orleans with her second husband.

Rachael's family in Catahoula heard that she and her children were living in poverty in New Orleans. The family tradition is that Samuel Sayre was an alcoholic.

Upon her death, her brother, John Banister, went to New Orleans and received authorization from the court to take her children back home with him to Catahoula where they were raised with the Banister/Ford half-siblings.
I believe I am a decendant of Pleasant Bannister/Mary Polly Crum through their #6 child, Anderson M Bannister b. Feb. 1843, Inez, Martin Co., KY; then my grandfather and father. Thus, Pleasant would be my gggf. I believe all of my male ascendants were the youngest of their respective parents' children. I have just recently started researching my Bannister/Banister roots. I don't know if you have found the following Crum connection, but it may be helpful: http://reocities.com/Heartland/Acres/1419/crumfamily.htm.
If you would care to share info, I will certainly put it to good use and share my results with you. Currently, I am still in the process of putting together Pleasant/Mary decendants. Please let me know you received my note. Thanks.

Hello,
I was reading your message and I have putting together a Bannister on Abraham Bannister Family. He was married to Emily Dawson first on January 14, 1869 and had 3 boys, Arthur(my 2x grandfather), Joseph and John Lee and 4 girls Margaret, Emily, Mollie & Laura. After the death of his 1st wife, He married Emma Gray Lee on January 17, 1888, but they didn't have any children. Abrahma had a daughter named Mary Elizabeth Bannister, born March 12, 1899. All of this information was wrote in his bible. Please contact me on my email: barbaramcghee54@comcast.net or via phone 540-317-5068, we just might have the same family. I am also related to Hopkins, Adkins/Atkins, Simpson, and Gray. Some of the Banisters are located in Rochester, NY

I think that I have found some information on Irene E. Bannister. Arthur J Bannister and his parents were born in N.Y. Arthur's wife was named Mary A. she was was born in NY and married Arthur at the age of 16. Mary's parents were born in Ireland. Arthur and Mary had four daughters Eileen J., Evelyn, Irene E, and Grace A. Arthur worked as a brakeman for the railroad. The son of William and Sarah sometimes went by the name of James Arthur. I believe Irene is the Bannister you are referring to.

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for your message! It doesn't sound like our John Bannisters are the same, as ours was married to a Mary Hockin. But we wish you well in all your research. May it be an exciting and productive journey for you!
Best wishes,
Laura Bunker

I just had to ask my brother what our Grandfather's name was on my dad's side. He thinks his name was John Bannister. He married Ruth Bundy and together they had 13 kids. I don't know much of anything about that side of the family. I'm wondering if this is part of your family also.

I don't know how much help this will be beyond moral support as my information seems to come from compilations and family stories. but I have Thomas Bannister as marrying Rosannah Steeves born about 1843 in Hillsborough and died 12 Apr 1877 at Little River, Elgin. Her death notice confirms the age but not who her parents are. Rosannah Steeves was on the 1851 census with Joshua Steeves and his wife Rosanna Jacques. Rosannah would have been the youngest child with her mother being in her early 40s when she was born. As Joshua died before her, if his will was probated, it might shed some light? If I find anything else I'll contact you.
Carolyn

Thomas Bannister of New Brunswick, Canada

I am trying to confirm that Thomas Bannister, son of Thomas Bannister and Mary Sears, was married to Rosehanna or Roshanna Prosser, daughter of Solomon Prosser and Elizabeth "Betsy" Geldart. I have found some evidence that I may have this wrong in my tree. My data comes predominately from compiled genealogy information and when trying to track this couple down in the NB census, I'm questioning if I have the wrong couple. Thos was born in 1828 (I believe in Prosser Brook, Elgin Parish, Albert, NB) and Rosehanna was born abt 1846. It appears that Rosehanna may have been a Steeves, not a Prosser. Or at least that's what I'm finding.

Thanks much for any light you can shed on this couple.

Laura,
I don't know why. My family is Hartsoch. My grandmother told my mother that their name used to be Hartsough. My mother didn't know if it was true or not. Now I believe that it was since I can only go back to a John Wesley Hartsock (b. 1825) that married Ann Rule in 1845 in Tiffin, Ohio and then spent the rest of his life living near a Samuel Hartsock in Indiana and I caan find no connection to a Samuel. John Hartsock shows up as John Hartsoch in the 1850 census. Why are there Hartsuff, hartzell, hartwig, hartsough, hartsaugh and many other variations in the census. It was all in how the name was pronouncerd andf how they thought it was spelled. Good luck and let me know how far you can go back. I read someplace that Laura was the oldest resident in NY and I believe the town was Ithaca. Not sure, though.
pat

Hi,

I live in MI where Joseph Hartsuff settled b. 5/10/1810
d. 11/14/1867.
Henry Hartsough was Joseph's father b. 10/10/1772
d. 4/17/1826.
Zachariah Hartsough was Henry's father.

Joseph came to MI from Seneca Co., NY and settled in Branch Co., MI in 1833. Records list him as Joseph Hartsough. From there he moved to Livingston Co., MI in 1835. Land records list him as Joseph Hartsuff. That is when the name change occured in our branch of the family. Why I don't know. I hadn't started research until after my great Aunts (Hartsuffs) had passed away.

The original name was Herzog, then Hartsough, then Hartsuff. Of course various misspellings have occurred in the census records. Very frustrating research at first.

Hopefully someone else will have an answer for you.

Good luck! Janice Brewer

I tracted my sir name (Bannister) to Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1633. I don't remember it all but they stayed in Bristol County and went north to Salem, Ma, then Maine, then Canada, then around Worcester County, Massachusetts, around 1900. My father was born in 1901.
Rhode Island's John Bannister, two n's, was a sailing captain. Probably owned a shipping company.
Look up Bannister's Whalf in Newport. Newport, RI is a must see for anyone reading this posting.
Ron Bannister
Webster, Massachusetts

Guess everyone on Ancestry needs to know it is Wight, not Wright cause thats what alot of the English documents say also, Never been there and probably never will be!!!!

Diana
