Yes, my Grandmother Mildred Black Suffield did. Her mother was a Banta. My siblings, cousins and I were also all in the CAR as children. I just came across some DAR paperwork with Abraham's information on it and it led me to this page.

Capt. Banta is my great grandfather. His daughter Susan was my mother's mother. My mother's brother Ed Morris was my uncle who had a daughter named Inez. Is she your mother, Kevin?

My Great Grandfather, Thomas Howard Morris, married Susan Banta in about 1867. Although the Banta line goes back several generations, I can not trace the Morris line past Thomas Howard. On the website findagrave.com you can see a picture of his headstone.

Hendrick Banta II b. Jan. 13,1696 married Geertruy Terhune Jan. 26, 1717
You are correct that his father is Hendrick Banta I b. 1655 in Holland. He married twice. His first wife is Maritje Lubbeerse Westervelt and his second wife is Angentje Hendricks whom he married Nov. 17, 1678 In Bergen County, NJ (from which Hendrick was born). Hendrick's father is Epke Jacbs from Harengen, a seaport of Friesland (northern part of Holland) He first came to America Feb. 12, 1659 with his wife and 5 sons. One of those sons is Hendrick I. The family resided in Hackensack NJ up until around 1780 and they migrated south to Kentucky. My family line descends with Leah Banta who married Jacobus Monfort. They settled in Lebanon, Ohio. Among the first settlers to Lebanon. There is a book entitled "A Frisian Family: The Banta Geneaology" there is a wealth of information in it. Check it out. There is so much information to be gained in it. Best of luck on your search!

My 1st cousin 7x removed is Peter Wortendyke born 6/15/1797 per someone else's tree. He was son of Peter F Wortendyke born 8/20/1758 and Mettje Demarest b 2/20/1762. Is this the guy who married Mary?

Peter P. Woertendyke b. 1797 married a Maria (Polly) Banta. Polly was Peter's second wife. Peter is my 3rd Great Grandfather & Polly is my 3rd Great Grandmother.

Perhaps William is a brother or nephew of Polly? If I find anything, I will let you know.

I believe that Banta Road was named after Judge David Demeree Banta. There is a small town by the name of Banta on Banta Road and this was named after him. Type in the history of Judge David Banta and you will find some info there. Please keep us posted if you find more on this. These are my ancestors.

Hello Bantas!

My name is Steve Campbell, and I formally served as Deputy Mayor of Indianapolis (2005-2007), where I developed a great interest in Indianapolis history.

As such, I am currently writing a book on the history of "place names" in Indianapolis, in other words, the stories behind the names of schools, streets, parks, institutions and neighborhoods in Indianapolis.

I have done some research on "Banta Rd.," and I believe it is named after a Henry Banta (born 1792, I believe) who may have had a farm along the current road.

Can anyone confirm this?

Most people start with Theodore Banta's classic genealogy. However, what I am interested in is any references to the original sources in the Netherlands...these never seem to be cited in his, or in any more recent Banta genealogies.

It surprises me that after all these years, no one has published references to these sources.

P.S. I am a U.S. citizen, went to school here. The A.R. had its origins as a rebellion, and eventually became a revolution...though the later was a process that went on long after hostilities ceased.

I believe his father was Hendrick Epkse Banta but haven't found direct information as to that info.
I've found that the "se" after the name means "son of"

There are certainly many, many thousands of us out here.

Epke is my 7th grtgrandfather, and I am descended from his son Cornelius, through his son Abraham, and his son Jacob, who immigrated to Canada after the American rebellion.

I wonder, has anyone seen citations for the original sources on Epke and his family in the Netherlands. I don't mean Theodore Banta's classic genealogy, but actual citations of where the original records are for these older generations.

My husband is direct decendant of Epke Jacobse. His son(s) took the name Banta when they moved from NJ. I have read that they chose the name of the town from which their family had live in Friesland, Netherlands.

I believe I am a direct decendent from Captin Benta.. My name is Whitney Bates and I am 16 doing research on family history. This is how I am related...My Grandfather is Galen Bates His dad is Ernast Bates and His parents are William J. Bates and Maggie Thomas. I believe he was my great great uncle (as best I understand). My father was Billie Vaughn Banta born in San Angelo, TX and his father was Louis Banta, born in Voca, TX I believe.

Epke Jacobse and his wife Sitske had five sons, born in Firesland, Netherlands. They were Cornelis, Seba, Hendrick, Dirck and Weart. Seba is assumed to be short for Sebastian. They had no daughters. Majority of Bantas in NOrth America are descended from Hendrick.

I am a great, great, great granddaughter of Captain William Banta. My paternal grandmother is Ruby Wolfe, maiden name, Ruby Greer, daughter of R.O. Greer. My daughter is doing a report for her 7th grade class. Any additional information anyone has would be appreciated. My brother has a copy of Twenty-Seven Years on the Texas Frontier, or Fifty Years in Texas, but I am not able to locate a copy myself and would love to have one.

Bertha was my Great-grandmother. She lived in Juntion, Texas and was married to Thomas Taylor. Their son "Arl" was my grandfather. We visited Lawrence several times in my youth. He was quite fond of my mother "Wanda Arlene". Used to skate at his ice rink, visited his home, cabin at I believe Lake Arrowhead and place at Catalina Island.
