I am a relative on the Nutter side of the family and one of our cousins married a Barclay. I know more about the Nutters then the Barclays my cousin could help you with that one. I will have to check my database for some of the names you mentioned I have not looked at it for a while so some of the names I am not familiar with. Most of my family is from the Eastern Shore Maryland on my mothers side. I live in PA.

Barclay/Barkly/Bartlett

I have seen this name (Barclay) spelt many different ways and the children have middle names that are spelt different than the last name. There is a 2nd marriage after the 1st is deceased and we are trying to figure out if this is the right person or not because the last name changed from Barclay to Bartlett. The first initial is the same but not the last name. Can anyone help with this last name from Barclay to Bartlett what a leap in name changes. Also Bartley is another name that I have found. To be more specific Felise/Felix Barclay or Barkly married Pricey/Pricea Brock 1799 Knox, Tn. Felise/Felix died 1808/1809 and it is believed that Pricea/pricey remarried in 1812 to Peter Merriman. The only problem is that he married Ping Bartlett/Price Bartlett. So we are trying to figure out if this person that married Peter Merriman in 1812 is the first wife of Felix or is this actually someone else. The reson that I am still searching is that the only record of Felix and Pricey is their marriage in Knox in 1799. We have no before records or after except that Felix purchased land from James Brock in Knox Co., @Swan Pond Creek. There are children by this marriage Mary "Polly" Barclay, Thomas Barclay, James William Barclay and Elizabeth "Betsy" Barclay. They have all been proved to be the children of Felix. They were born abt 1801, 1805, and 1809 was Elizabeth. The other is somehwere in between all the other dates, and I really believe that it was Thomas born about 1804 before my gr gr grandfather James Barclay. You can check out spelling in Civil War Pension Index as there is a Barclay, William N. and his (alias) is Bartlett, William N. No relation that is have been able to find. Only an example of what I do mean.

Re: Bartley/Barclay Connection

Bert Visheau's info on Louise Elizabeth Visheau came from research that my daughter and I did before computers (a lot of leg work. Louise "Eliza" Visheau was born in 1849 the eldest of the 14 children of Joseph Visheau & Hermine Trois? She married John Bartley of West Flamborough (born 1831)The difference in age could explain their children were born late in life. They were I think: Robert Barclay (step-son?) born November 4, 1880.....John Boyd Barclay b. May (March?) 1891
Mary Maude Barclay, b. June 24, 1884: Rose Ellen Baclay b. Oct 13,1888 Married Oliver Ara Orr of Portland Indiana married in Hamilton, Ontario On Oct 26, 1909. I hope that I did not confuse things even more. I wasn't trying to find the Bartley (Barclay) line but recorded it when I came across it. Hope it helps or at least gets someone break their brick wall in their history.

I just posted today the 1880 census with N.M. Blarclay in it, I figured she had to be somewhere since she was not in Madison Co. She is listed there with her children by James and his children by his 1st wife Emline Nanney.

Nancy Minerva Henderson m. James W. Barclay abt 1857 Madison Co., Tn. The reason I write is that Nancy can be found in the 1880 census but not under the name of Barclay because they mispelled it. She can be found under Blarclay as all of her children can and James children also. 1880 census Haywood Co., Tn. District 7 image 3 which is page 3. I figured she must be somewhere as she did not die until 1889 (see Cornwall/Barclay cemetery same city. Was looking for something else when I came across this spelling and the children do match-up.

My 5th Great Grandfather was James Barclay, born 1722 died 1792. He was buried at the Neshaminy Church in Warminster, PA. His wife was Margret Craig Fowler. After his death, she moved in with her son James(1752-1810) in Philadelphia. She is buried at Laurel Hill in Philadelphia. Family history says the Barclay house had a fire which destroyed many of the records. We have never been able to successfuly trace James' lineage back further.

From what I understand, Hugh moved west out to Greene County.

I am a direct descendant of the James Barclay who survived the trip on the George and Ann in 1729. I am looking for the burial place for James and his son James who was a patriot in the American Revolution. His brothers' graves are at the Goodwill Cemetery in Orange County however I can not find his grave there. I am also interested in finding the grave for Jame's son Daniel Barclay. He was a member of the Hopewell Church in Orange County however I cannot find any trace of him at the Hopewell Cemetery.
Daniel's son Gaston Barclay is my great great grandfather who moved from Orange County to Brooklyn. He had a son David who had a son named Alfred. He was my grandfather. Alfred had two brothers, Sam and Frank and a sister Catie. If anyone is connected to this line I would appreciate any information you may have.
Thank you.
Chris Barclay

I had a copy of it but it was lost in the fire. About all I can remember is that Pricia (Pricey) was with child when he died and it is stated so in his will. I have the marriage of Pricia Brock and Felix Barclay 1799 in Knox Co., Tn.

First of all James and Elizabeth had another child, Rosanna Barclay who married James Clemmings. James' father was Robert Barclay who lived in Muskingum County, Ohio. Robert's father was Robert Benjamin Barclay who was from Maryland, Baltimore, Baltimore County. I have additional information if you woluld like it.

kelsey

Im desperately looking for information on my great grandmother. No one seems to know anything...Not even her first name. I think she was born between 1885 and 1900.

Married Fred(-erick)Brewster sometime before 1920.

She had 2 children(Raymond R.Brewster(1924-1983),and my grandmother-Margaret S.Brewster-Flatt(1920-1995).

From what my grandmother told me when I was little her mother died when my grandmother was very young and she had to raise Ray. She would have died sometime in between 1924 and 1930-32? Margaret and Raymond lived in Glen Park (Gary) as children.

Frederick was listed to have died in Gary Indiana,I have searched all over for death, marriage..etc...NOTHING.
My aunt has said that her name was possibly mary, and that she might have been buried in Michigan.

If anyone could please help me, I would appreciate it sooo much!! I have hit a brick wall, and with less than 4 Living members on her side, Im stuck....

Hi Margaret,
Thanks for making contact, the system works! I have no other responses to date, so I am pleased that you have made the effort. For any future contact our mail address is lyn-dave@bigpond.com.
I have the birth and marriage certs of Caroline which I am happy to share if you want them. A lot of the information that you will get from Walhalla I have given them, as I have been on the search for the Barclays for some time now and visit Walhalla each year if I can. We live in Darwin and have two of our kids living in Adelaide, two grandkids plus one on the way. So we get down south as often as we can to be with them. We are at present on the York Peninsular SA and we will be moving over to Vic in a week or two. Where are you located?
I have a little bit of info on Caroline and her Fred, they owned a pub at one time. I have lots on the Barclays and as I said, happy to share if you are interested.
Lyn and I will be in England in July plus Scotland so we are hoping to get more info on George and Jemima then. The person that I seem to have lost is Jemima junior, born London about 1835. She seems to have slipped off the planet somehow.
OK, let me know what you would like and I can send it. If you want to meet up whilst we are in Vic, that would be good and I can show you directly what I have.
OK cheers for now and thanks again for responding.
Dave Barclay

Just read your message regarding your your Barclay ancestors. My Barclay line came from the Old Meldrum area too.

Please see my line below:

My ggg-grandfather is JOHN BARCLAY. He was married to Lydia Sellar and lived at New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire until his death around the mid 1840's. John Barclay had lived at Old Deer and Old Meldrum in his earlier years.
I have knowlege he died in a snow storm at the Den O Fathie, a pass between the King Edward and Aberdour parishes of north Aberdeenshire around mid 1840's.

His spouse Lydia Sellar was born in 1785 at Artamford just outside New Deer (they married in 1811)

They had the following children:

John Barclay, a soldier who died of fever in the West Indies.
William Barclay, farmer at Cook, Byth
James Barclay, crofter, Craigston, Turriff
Andrew Barclay, mason, New Pitsligo, died March 18, 1847 aged 29. (Ann Finnie, wife of Andrew Barclay, died 1906, aged 83 years)
Peter Barclay (my gg-grandfather), farm servant and feuar, New Aberdour, b. 22 June 1826 at Tyrie, died 2nd March 1905 at 20 High Street, New Pitsligo.
(1st wife was Mary McDonald) who I descend from (died aged 35 years), he then remarried Jean Murison Park.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kindest regards
Graeme A. Barclay gbarc22535@aol.com

POW/MIA Korean War BARCLAY

I am searching for the famiy of a soldiers with the surname Green that was lost in the Korean War. At this time the government has no family contact. At the time he was lost his remains were not recovered. Family DNA is needed to identify remains if and when they are recovered. At the time he entered service he gave his Home of Record as Baldwin County, GA.

Soldier: BALDWIN BARCLAY
Born: April 2, 1930 Caucasian
Date of loss: August 22, 1950 MIA
Unit:L Co. Hq Hq Co. 7th Cav Rgt, 1st Cav Division

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. Our government has no family contact for the man listed.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
517 Mohican Trail
Wilmington, NC 28409

40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net

My Father, James Barclay Clark was born in Young's Land. He was illegitimate. The only reason I'm looking for my cousins is that I was hoping to get a photograph of James Sr. and Grace. Perhaps the relatives would like to get to know their cousins? If so, please contact me.

MIssing Charles Barclay, b 1907, MA

Im looking for information regarding Charles Barclay, born 27 Jun 1907 in Massachusetts, either Andover or Boston most likely. He was taken to Scotland shortly after and returned when he was 15, in 1922. His mother was Emma Anderson Barclay and his father could have been John Farquarson Gorrie -- though the father is in question.

I have a lot of info on the rest of the family, but Uncle Charlie doesnt seem to be anywhere, except for the Arrival Record in 1922.

Any help is appreciated. Respond here or email me directly at: tmthylmnt@gmail.com

Thank you

BARCLAY in Gateshead, Eng

I am trying to find out more about Harry Barclay who was a Second Lieutenant and was awarded honours (Military Medal, I think) in the First World War. He lived in the Gateshead area and is listed on the "Honours Boards" in Gateshead Central Library. If he is the person I am searching, he died early 1937 in Hull and was married to Doris Miriam Jackson.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Kevin
I think you are correct in that we are not in the same line but having said that - my Lines are Barclay , Scobie and Findaly - and just the other day I came across a Scobie marrying a Barclay that was not in my line that I know of.
Where in BC are you - Im in Tsawwassen right now and soon moving to Cloverdale.

well I think we are probably not related. Unfortunately 'Barclay' seems to be as common a name in Scotland as 'Smith' is everywhere. My 'Barclay' line may have originated in Scotland and I suspect were possibly part of the 'Scots-Irish' who were settled in Ireland by Queen Elizabeth I who wanted to establish an English hold on Ireland to foil the Spanish.
Anyway good luck with your searching. I am in BC too.

hi,
Actually that "Crawford" was in Ireland. He was my great grandfather's business partner. So not related as far as I know. Do you know if your Barclay ancestors were Irish or Scottish? How many generations ago did they immigrate to N. America?
I've been lucky in my family research because others had done a lot of it already and because it was my grandparents who emigrated from Ireland. So I didn't have to look back that far. I even knew where they came from.
It's a lot harder if you are searching back many generations. Good luck with your search.
