Julia
I will go back and see if I kept a copy, I believe I passed
it on to Chip Culpepper and one of your cousins Chip is the
historian for the 37th Alabama site on the net he can get
you a copy. Also on a visit to Mt.Home - Creek Alabama, a Confederate Old folks home, in there museum there is the same picture. I found the first picture hanging on a wall in a small museum at Cripple Creek a Civil War Battleground near
Cullman Alabama
scott dawsey

I am the youngest daughter (#6) of Jack Wayne Barfoot, son of Thomas Grover Barfoot, son of Isaac Joel Barfoot, son of Joel B Barfoot. I am updating my family information and would love to include pictures that I may not have, or be able to re-scan images that I have that are poor quality. I hope you can help me with this endeavor.

I have a new scanner and professional photo software that I can use to clean up and enhance old pictures.

Thank you --------- Julie Rena Barfoot Burks
jburks@cullmancity.org

Mary, I just returned home to PEI from Vancounver Island in BC where I have lived since 1993. I did a quick check on Barfoot surname in the major centers on Vancouver Island and came up with 1 name in Duncan and 4 names in Nanaimo. I will do a few phone calls in the next week and see if I can locate these relatives for you. It is not a common surname so should be able to pick up the thread fairly quickly. I suspect Nanaimo is where they landed.

mary Ellen

It is me_callaghan@bellaliant.net. Can you resend your email please? The power has been out for about 3 hours here as we are getting a bad wind storm so perhaps email is backed up. Waiting anxiously and so happy you are not freaked out by my letter.
George Poole (possibly known as George BARFOOT), born bef. 1900, emigrated to Australia after WWI

Still desperately seeking info. about George POOLE.

My grandfather, Harry John BARFOOT (1860-1937) referred to George as his 'adopted son', although this was before formal adoption came to be in the UK. Harry lived with Marie Annie Lucy POOLE in the Deptford area of London and their children (all born before the couple's marriage in January 1901!) all referred to this person as 'cousin George'. We do not know when he was born, but he fought alongside Harry's other sons in WW1, so is likely to have been born prior to 1900. We do not know in which regiment he served. Marie had a brother Alexander JAMES POOLE (1866-1901) but as far as we know he never married or had children. Her other brother Adolphus and sister Flora died in infancy, so we are very unsure where this mysterious George Poole might fit into the family.

George was not living with the Barfoot family on either the 1901 or 1911 censuses.

George POOLE emigrated to Australia at some time after the First World War and was certainly well settled there by 1940. It is believed he was married and had at least two sons. For many years he kept up a regular correspondence with the eldest of Harry John and Marie's children: Elise Marie Harriet BARFOOT (1886-1980). Elise (known as Elsie) had married Alfred Hope MAHONEY in 1911 but he died just a couple of years later. Further marriages followed, to a Mr. BISLEY, a butcher, and then to Frederick ROWSELL. My elder cousin, Raymond ROWSELL (born 1928)- Elsie's youngest child - was supposed to be going out to Australia in 1940 under the government's child evacuation scheme and George POOLE and his family had agreed to give Raymond a home and look after him. The government scheme, however, was cancelled in September of that year after the torpedoing of a ship full of child evacuees, and Raymond never left the UK.

Unfortunately, despite Raymond's best efforts, it would appear that all the letters between his mother and George have been destroyed, but we are still hoping that someone, somewhere will recognise some of these names or details and may be one of George's descendents!

Please, please if any of this rings a bell, do get in touch.

Hi all am trying to find a trace of Mervyn Barfoot, child of Albert Edward Barfoot and Isabel Davis. He was born in 1908 in Somerset Tasmania Australia, and served in the second world war, enlisting from Melbourne Australia. He was known to be around in the 1970's - as a mean drunkard, but still he was around. I just did a search on the historical records, and he's not listed. I can't understand it. He should be on an electoral roll, surely, or SOMETHING. I looked in our two biggest Cemeteries Fakwner and Springvale and he's not there. Where to now? Any advice? Kindest Regards, JO.

My grandmother had told me that she thought his father's name was miles - we thought it may have been John Miles - My grandmother and her sisters I have talked to told me that thier grandfather Francis P. Barfoot did not talk about the family very much and kept to themselves, so they do not know much about that part of the family and I am trying to lear more about the Barfoot family. Any help would be great

Joel Barfoot was my ggggrandfather. I've seen a copy of a tin type picture of him in uniform. I don't know if that is the picture you have of him or not. Also I'm glad to find where in Mississippi he was killed. If you could send me a copy of the picture would be most thankful. Will let you know if it is the one I have copy of.
Bobby Lanier
bglanier@frontiernet.net

Re: Barfoot of Brighton

Further to my post a few minutes ago, I've had a better look and found (just by going through the things on here) the following:

The Walter Piggott Barfoot born 1868 was the son of Robert James Barfoot, a watchmaker and his wife Elizabeth (see 1881 census entry). They had other children called Robert, Mary, Harry, Ernest and Edith, and Robert James the watchmaker had a sister Isabel who, at the time of the 1881 census was shown as an assistant watchmaker.

10 years previously, at the time of the 1871 census, Elizabeth Barfoot (wife of Robert) was staying with her widowed mother Elizabeth P. Williams at Wellington Villa, Keymer, Sussex. She had Robert, Walter and young Mary with her. This means that Walter Pigott Barfoot was the son of Robert Thomas Barfoot and Elizabeth (nee Williams).

THIS Walter Pigott Barfoot married in the March qtr. of 1889 at Steyning, Sussex (reference: 2b 389). The Free BMD entry shows that the possible partners in the marriage were either Florence Ada Power OR Elizabeth Ann Hone.

Going to the 1901 census we can find at 12 Chanctonbury Road, Hove, Walter Pigott Barfoot,32, Jeweller and watchmaker, living with his wife Florence Ada Barfoot,33, and their 9-year-old son, Walter Pigott Barfoot.

Clearly, therefore, Walter Pigott Barfoot who worked at Guys, and to whom the war records refer, was this younger Walter Pigott Barfoot, son of Walter Pigott Barfoot and Florence Ada (nee Power). It was THIS Walter (b. c1890) who married Dora Pallant.

Hope this now sets you on the right path and you can find out more.

Do contact me again if you'd like any more help.

Regards,
Jackie

Re: Barfoot of Brighton

Hello there. Not sure where you have been looking, but if you enter a simple name search here on Ancestry you will get quite a lot of suggestions for Walter Pigott Barfoot.

It is, however, important to be careful! There is shown a Walter Pigott Barfoot born in 1868 to Robert Thomas Barfoot.

However, there are also army records (WW1 Service Records and Army Pension Records) for a Walter Pigott Barfoot and these show him in the Dental Department at Guys Hospital and with a wife called Dora Pallant Barfoot of 38 Montpelier Road, Brighton (note, this address is not quite what you put in your posting). It shows that Dora Pallant, spinster, married Walter Pigott Barfoot on 13th November 1912 at Brighton Registry Office.

Why I urge caution though is that the date of birth for THIS Walter Pigott Barfoot is shown on various records as about 1890/91 NOT 1868!

There are census records you can check too, so hope this all helps.

Best wishes,
Jackie

I am trying to chase back from a member of my family but do not have much to go on. His name was Kenneth Dyer and he was born in Redhill Surrey in 1925. I have just obtained his birth certificate which shows his mother's name as Alice Dyer (no father name). Alice was a domestic housemaid at 113 Nutley Lane, Reigate, Surrey and Kenneth was born at 26 Woodlands Road, Redhill Surrey.

The only information I do have is that he was possibly brought up by a family with the surname of Barfoot. I have no other information at all on this family member and would be very grateful to know anything, if somebody has any information about these families.

Thanks
Michelle

Both would have come from England in the early 1900's.
The picture shows a young boy of about 2 years who is identified as Alan Barfoot. The pictures are B/W about 1 1/2" x 3" and I would estimate they were taken in the 1930-1940 era.
Anyone have any connecton? I would be happy to email copies .

Looking for relatives of Dorothy Barfoot KS

Hi,

I have been told by cousins that Dorothy Barfoot had information on our Holmes line. My great aunt Rebecca Holmes married Dr. Alfred Barfoot in Decorah, IA. I understand that Dorothy is her daughter or daughter in law, can't remember which and that she was in Kansas at the time my cousin was told she had information on our family. I was told that she died in the 1980's but that she had information on our Holmes line. As happens often, she never looked her up to get this information so hoping that someone out there still has it!

If anyone is related to her and knows where this information could be located, I would be most appreciative!

I would also like to fill in the Barfoot line in my tree, even though it is not in my direct line.

Thanks!

Renee (Holmes) O'Neal
renee@pconline.com
