It seems like they were on and the same Jerri. Alexander Bannerman Barkway was a minister on both the 1881 and 1901 census in Lancashire. I have three children for them: Alexander William Thom b 1868, James L 1879 and Margaret J 1887. Alexander jr and Florence also have three children listed, Rutherford Becket 1890, S ? 1898 and Allen Gordon Thom 1896 who died in 1917. I have picked up all the above off the internet so there may be errors in original transcription and of course we are reliant on the information having all ?? been put in! I have about 900 Bark(a)ways on file and am intrigued to know how they all relate. Certainly your family are out on a limb having come from Scotland, but as there was a connection by sea from East Anglia they still may prove to be from the same family. If you have any other information I would be glad to receive it on band.mereside (at) zen.co.uk from which you can see I am in England!

Hello Jerri
I am looking at the Bark(a)way families in England and came across your message. i wonder if your John Barkway is the person I have listed as John Rutherford Barkway b1919 d 8 May 1945. He was the son of Rutherford Becket Barkway and Lilian Rutherford was born in 1890 in Bootle LAN and was in turn the son of Alexander William Thom Barkway b 1868 in Scotland. His father was Alexander Bannerman Barkway who was the son of John Barkway who married Jane Milne in Aberdeen on 28 Nov 1827.
I don't have any information on a sister. Is this likely to be the same John Barkway?
